Chapter 167: Chapter 167: Death God’s Night Patrol
The "Butcher" was a ruthless and brutal villain. A year ago, he was captured by the "Steel Wire Death God" and thrown into a maximum-security prison for Quirk-related crimes.
Later, the court sentenced him to death. But the sentence had yet to be carried out.
In Japan, the average waiting time for death row inmates between sentencing and execution was about seven years. Some criminals who had committed serious crimes had even waited over 20 years before finally being executed.
That was why people often said that some death row inmates would grow old and die in their cells before their sentence was ever carried out. Maybe the lawmakers had hoped these criminals could contribute something in their remaining years to atone for their sins. After all, most of them were put to work in hard labor camps.
Most criminals with lighter sentences follow the rules, but for those already sentenced to death—even if the execution never actually happens—spending the rest of their lives in prison isn't what they want. So... a riot broke out.
With inside help and careful planning, several death row inmates managed to escape. Facing the massive manhunt by heroes and police, they all went into hiding, disappearing from public view.
"Moonfish," one of the escaped death row inmates, was later introduced to the League of Villains by a broker. However, during the training camp attack, he was instantly taken down by a rampaging Tokoyami under Shinso Hitoshi's control. He was sent back to prison.
"Bloodthirsty Wolf" had a tendency to go berserk at the smell of blood. He once went on a rampage, brutally killing over ten innocent civilians. When heroes tried to talk him into surrendering, he mercilessly killed a pro hero as well. The police determined that he was a dangerous criminal and had to be captured. He then became a fugitive, labeled as a villain.
A year ago, he was taken down by the "Steel Wire Death God" and handed over to the police by Kamui Woods. He was sentenced to death and locked away in prison... but recently, he escaped along with other death row inmates.
Yesterday, after hiding for so long, Bloodthirsty Wolf was finally found by Kamui Woods and Mt. Lady. After a fierce chase, he was ultimately killed—by none other than the passing "Steel Wire Death God."
"The Butcher" had also been in hiding since the prison break. With the government under pressure to maintain its reputation, heroes and police launched an intense manhunt. Even he had to keep a low profile for a while.
At first, he wanted to get revenge on the kid who had sliced off his limbs and thrown him in prison. But every time he remembered those cold, death-like eyes staring at him, he couldn't bring himself to think about it. Revenge and seeking death were two different things. If he got caught by heroes and police, the worst that could happen was another life sentence. But if he ran into that kid again... he was as good as dead.
Not wanting to cross paths with that terrifying "death god," The Butcher spent his days hiding like a sewer rat, never daring to show himself.
As time passed, the intensity of the search began to die down. Or rather, most heroes and police were now focused on the League of Villains.
Finally, after suppressing himself for so long, The Butcher couldn't hold back anymore. He was sick of living like a sewer rat. He was starving.

Night fell over the city. The moon shone brightly, driving away the darkness. But despite the beautiful night, the streets were completely empty. People were too afraid to go outside.
Last night, something horrifying had happened. A salaryman on his way home was attacked by a villain. By the time patrol officers arrived, only half of his body remained. The villain responsible had long since fled, leaving behind a gruesome scene.
Early this morning, the news had been broadcasting urgent warnings. Heroes and police advised citizens to stay indoors at night. Patrols were increased, searching for any trace of the villain... but nothing turned up.
Now, as night fell again, deep in a corner of the city, something else was happening. A man was running for his life, terrified and desperate to find a hero or a police officer. But this man was no innocent victim—he was The Butcher, a high-profile criminal.
"Wh-why!?"
The Butcher ran without daring to look back. Fear had completely taken over his mind. Something—someone—was closing in on him.
Earlier that night, he had gone out to hunt again. But because of patrolling heroes, he had to abandon the half-eaten remains of his "meal." He couldn't afford to be caught.
He had quickly slipped back into the sewers, the same place he had been hiding all this time—just like a rat. That was why the heroes and police hadn't been able to find him.
As night fell, the Butcher emerged from the sewers. His stomach growled with hunger—he just wanted to find someone, anyone, to feast on. Heroes, police... it didn't matter. He was ready to hunt down a lone target and devour them.
Just then, a figure slowly approached. The Butcher was surprised—no, thrilled. A meal had walked right up to him. What luck.
As the figure got closer, the moonlight revealed his face. The Butcher's excitement twisted into pure terror. His expression froze. Without a second thought, he turned and bolted, running for his life.
Why was he here? Why him? He had gone out of his way to avoid that terrifying "Reaper," yet the Reaper still found him. He didn't dare to think, didn't dare to hesitate—fear was choking the life out of him.
He couldn't stop. He couldn't even look back. The Butcher knew that if he slowed down even for a second, death was certain. That terrifying Reaper would end him.
Heroes and police! They were his only chance now. Even prison would be better than this. Anything was better than facing the Reaper.
Desperate to escape, he cut through a narrow alley, hoping to take a shortcut. There were plenty of police and heroes on patrol tonight—if he could just reach the main street, he would be safe.
From the darkness of the alley, he saw light up ahead. It was the glow of a police patrol's flashlight. Relief flooded his chest as he sprinted toward it, reaching out his hand, about to call for help.
"Hel—"
Before he could finish, countless steel wires shot out from the shadows behind him, wrapping tightly around his entire body, even sealing his mouth shut. He couldn't make a sound as he was dragged back into the darkness.
"What was that?!"
Hearing the noise, a patrolling officer shone his flashlight down the alley. But all he saw was an empty passageway.
"Damn, that scared me… I should regroup with the others."
Recalling the gruesome scene from yesterday's case, the officer shuddered before quickly heading off to meet his colleagues. In times like this, it was safer to stick together.
