Chapter 96 - Evil Cadres movement
“…”
“So that’s the story, huh?”
After being stunned for a long time by Liu Meng’s words, YouYu finally regained his composure, and with complex emotions, he sighed softly.
He then looked at Liu Meng, who sat across from him, hesitated for a moment, and finally spoke.
“Sorry for making you revisit the past.”
“No, it’s fine.”
Hearing YouYu’s apology, Liu Meng, who had already collected herself, shook her head and said:
“Even if you hadn’t brought it up, I occasionally reflect on those times myself. Pain and all, I’ve long since gotten used to it.”
“Is that so…”
Seeing Liu Meng shake her head as if it truly didn’t matter, YouYu sighed and said:
“Getting used to pain isn’t exactly a good thing.”
“But that’s just how reality works. We can’t change it; all we can do is adapt.”
Liu Meng fell silent for a moment before continuing, her tone tinged with a mix of pity and envy as she looked at him.
“Compared to me, you might actually be lucky to have forgotten everything that happened when you became a Negative Beast.”
“If you still had those memories, you might still be struggling with the choice of whether to face them or avoid them.”
“Honestly, I envy you a little.”
“……”
After listening to Liu Meng’s words, YouYu lowered his head, lost in thought for a while. Then he took a sip of water and said:
“Personally, I don’t think i’m lucky.”
“Choosing to forget pain as a form of escape is something everyone does, but… one can’t run away forever. Sooner or later, you have to face it.”
“Rather than letting the pain from the past catch up and tear me apart, I’d rather confront it head-on.”
“Running forever, trapped in the shadow of the past, leaves no room for a future.”
“……”
“And what will you do?”
“When you recover your memories, how will you face them?”
Meeting Liu Meng’s gaze, YouYu replied in a steady tone:
“I’ll face them.”
“Find the root of the pain.”
“And destroy it.”
“My answer is that simple.”
After hearing YouYu’s response, Liu Meng was silent for a while before speaking.
“Do you really want to recover your memories that badly, YouYu?”
“Of course. Besides, didn’t you say you’d help me before?”
“I did say that, but—”
Recalling the information she’d overheard from Bai Yu and WuYue over the past week, Liu Meng hesitated before saying:
“I’m just not sure if you’ll truly be able to handle those lost memories.”
“I’ve told you everything they discussed. Recovering your memories might bring even more pain.”
“Maybe… you might even become a Negative Beast again.”
“……”
“What you said, I’ve indeed considered.”
“But running away never solves anything.”
“Take those two magical girls, for example—”
“Living here, hiding behind the excuse of ‘it’s for their sake,’ and watching them suffer as they search for me is far worse than confronting everything head-on.”
“Even if it ends with my death or survival, at least there’ll be a conclusion.”
“Better than them living forever in a lie of self-deception.”
YouYu sighed and continued:
“Besides, if there’s one thing I hate most, it’s lying.”
“……”
“I see.”
After a long pause, Liu Meng lifted her head and looked at YouYu.
“YouYu, I have an idea.”
“What is it?”
“Perhaps, in a little while… I’ll consider taking you out.”
“And then, I’ll figure out how to help you recover your memories.”
…
“Boom—”
In a dark and terrifying place known to few—within the Black Tower—the long-separated cadre of evil had been summoned by the Tower Master for a meeting.
This gathering was to address Night Demon and its information.
“…Night Demon, I have given you many chances, countless chances… yet every one of your actions has ended in failure.”
“I will strip you of your negative emotions as punishment.”
“Furthermore, your mission execution rights… will be transferred to someone more suited than you.”
“You have no right to refuse.”
“I understand, Tower Master.”
Lowering its head slightly to the figure at the tower’s pinnacle, Night Demon ignored the piercing gaze of the Tower Master and instead focused on another being like itself—a white insectoid figure.
This figure, named “Gray Shadow,” had been granted Night Demon’s former mission rights. It was an older, more ancient existence.
Noticing Night Demon’s gaze, Gray Shadow turned its head, its tone sharp and dismissive:
“Night Demon, whatever secrets you’re hiding, whatever plans you’re making, I couldn’t care less. All I know is you failed.”
“A long time ago, their actions already taught us one thing—scheming gets you nowhere. Only decisive action yields results.”
“If you’re still clinging to those thoughts… I will personally see you dead.”
“Don’t worry. With my negative emotions stripped, I couldn’t possibly pose a threat to you.”
Unfazed by Gray Shadow’s hostility, Night Demon swept its gaze over the other cadres before turning to leave.
As it walked away, it added one last remark:
“The information I hold is all I have to offer. Don’t bother ‘visiting’ me. If you have further questions… take them to the Tower Master.”
“……”
After its departure, the cadres stood silently for a moment before shifting their attention to Gray Shadow.
Not reacting to their stares, Gray Shadow coldly returned their gazes.
Only after ten minutes passed did one cadre discreetly vanish, followed by the others, each departing with their own hidden agendas.
Once they were all gone, Gray Shadow lifted its gaze to the top of the tower and flew upward.
