Chapter 5: Main character.
"Are you feeling okay? Do you need water? Does your back ache?"
Filo asked, rubbing her hands around Adnois' body in worry.
Adnois raised his hand, a small smile on his face. "Gentle, gentle. I promise I'm fine, I'm just exhausted."
Filo moved back, her face further hinting at her worry. "How are you possibly fine? You were out for more than three days."
Something about what she said triggered Adnois.
He placed his hand over his right eye and asked,
"Are they truly dead?"
Even if he didn't put a specific name on it, Filo knew well who he was referring to.
"Yes. I just found out about it today. I was going to tell you, but—"
"Haha..."
Adnois chuckled a bit, his face wrinkled with what seemed to be annoyance.
"So the story is changing itself," he said.
That statement didn't sit right with Filo; she didn't understand what he meant.
Before she could think to ask, Adnois looked at her.
"Is it fine if I use the bathroom?" he asked.
"Ah—s-sure. I don't mind. Please just be careful." Filo adjusted her body to the side.
"Alright then."
Adnois gently stood up from the bed.
He was not dressed in his adventuring outfit; instead, he was in a white nightie.
He managed to get into the bathroom and close the door.
The bathroom wasn't necessarily big, but compared to the kitchen, it was still something.
Now standing before the hanging mirror, Adnois stared at himself in the eye.
'This is real...'
He whispered, as if trying to strengthen his own belief.
Adnois rubbed his face, feeling the soft texture of his own skin.
'Yep, all real.'
He then placed his hand on the mirror—
'If this is not a dream and I really did reincarnate into the novel, then the story must be changing.'
He continued,
'Filo Granza should have died in the G-36 dungeon attack. This was the turning point for the MC to realize his weakness. The guilt he felt drove him mad as he attempted to get more power, only to end up losing more people—the fate of the failed hero.'
Adnois raised his head. 'But now that I saved Filo from her death, the plot changed. Rather than Filo dying, the entire party members died. While they did die in the novel, it wasn't this soon—not until the MC lost his right arm. Which means...'
Just as Adnois analyzed, the story was changing depending on how much influence he had on it.
"I have reincarnated as the MC, Adonis Wilson, the F-rank Healer and leader of the low-level party, Dancing Corpse... Interesting. As a human, this is pretty frightening, but as an author, do I really want to miss such an opportunity to change the plot for the better?"
Suddenly, a system notification popped up—
[You have received a loot box.]
Adnois stared at the notification.
[Would you like to open it?]
'These were the same screens I saw in the dungeon... Is this supposed to be some special power only I can use?'
Adnois replied, "Yes, open it."
[Notice: You have gained a class change from the loot box.]
Just as the system announced, a card hovered in front of Adnois, though only the back was visible, with the front hidden.
'A class change?'
[From time to time, the user will receive a loot box that holds different kinds of items at random. One of those items happens to be a class change card, which allows the user to add a new class to his collection—at random.]
Adnois was invested, moving his face closer to the glowing template.
'Oh, now I get it. This is similar to those system stories I've heard about. I never really got the chance to read them, but I do know one thing—if this is supposed to be a power that I alone can wield, then I shall use it to my best ability.'
He picked up the card.
'In this world, as long as I am here, I'll change the plot in whatever way I see fit! I will become the best at what a main character needs to be!'
Adnois turned the card over.
[Notice: You have gained a new class—Necromancer.]
[You can now control the dead.]
Adnois was surprised.
From what he knew, the Necromancer class was always known to be powerful, with only a few people able to perfect its magical capabilities.
[You have gained new skills.]
[Dead Summon: This skill allows you to summon any living thing you've killed.]
[Death Sense: This skill allows you to sense the death intent of others.]
[Death Upgrade: This skill allows any summon you add to your rank to grow stronger upon being used.]
As the skills were listed before him, Adnois couldn't help but chuckle nervously—
"I have both a Healer and Necromancer class? How ironic."
Again, the system made another announcement—
[Would you like to see your profile?]
Adnois was quiet for a while. "Sure."
[STATS.]
[NAME: Adnois Wilson.
Class: Healer (F rank), Necromancer (C rank.)

Skills: (Open)]
'Now it's like a game,' Adnois said with a sigh, his mind already trying to understand how well he could utilize the so-called system.
Bang!
Filo knocked on the door.
"Uhm, Adnois? Are you alright? You've been in the bathroom for a while. Do you need help?" she spoke from the other side of the door.
Adnois sighed. One by one, the system templates began to disappear.
Wasting no time, Adnois opened the door and stood in front of Filo.
"I was only gone for a short time. Were you missing me that much?" he uttered.
Filo pointed at him. "I was worried about you, dummy! What if you had fainted in the bathroom?"
"I just woke up. I won't go fainting."
"We don't know that!"
Adnois sighed. "Don't get worked up over something so trivial."
Bing!
Another notification popped up, but this time, rather than appearing in front of Adnois, it hovered right above Filo's head.
[Name: Filo Granza.
Class: Fighter (A Rank.)
Relationship Score: 50%]
(Note: Increase score to upgrade member's rank.)
Adnois' eyes widened when he saw this.
'And it just keeps coming...'
