Rebirth: Leading Families to Survive in the Apocalypse

Chapter 196: Chapter One Hundred Ninety-Six Night Hunt

Outside the Space, a considerable number of Mutated Beasts had already gathered within the two spirit gathering trapping formations, and Su Jin and Lu Hao did not use any lighting tools.

The night in the forest was not pitch black; they could even see the vague shadows of tree branches on the ground through the moonlight. Moreover, Special Ability Users were inherently more sensitive, so both of them could see perfectly well in this situation.

“Is this… what kind of Mutated Beast? A hedgehog?”

When Su Jin saw the appearance of the Mutated Beasts within the spirit gathering trapping formation, she immediately thought of hedgehogs, but weren’t these too big?

Lu Hao’s right hand lit a rather small flame, and as he observed the Mutated Beast within the formation more clearly, he could see that its body was covered in spikes. Only its head and neck had elongated, curved bristles, and beyond that, there was a long array of spikes, making it indeed resemble an oversized hedgehog.

“It’s a porcupine,” Lu Hao asserted.

“A porcupine?” Su Jin couldn’t help but ask with curiosity. She seemed to have never seen such a creature before.

“Porcupines are nocturnal animals and are quite cautious; be careful not to touch the spikes on its body,”

Lu Hao explained to Su Jin. In the past, when they participated in exercises and training, they often encountered this kind of animal at night. Although porcupines moved slowly, if one accidentally touched their spikes, not only could it cause an infected wound and unbearable pain, but there were also cases that could lead to death.

Su Jin nodded her head. Although these mutated porcupines did not seem to move slowly, and besides the porcupines, there were some other Mutated Beasts in the spirit gathering trapping formation, these beasts, without exception, had been pierced by the porcupines’ spikes into hedgehogs, and many had already died.

These porcupines were quite formidable!

“Shall we each take one formation?” Su Jin asked, tilting her head.

“Okay,”

The two spirit gathering trapping formations that Lu Hao had set up were not far apart, so if one person was in danger, the other could quickly come to support.

Su Jin looked at the porcupines trapped in the formation, and at the same time, those porcupines were also angrily watching her, and even one of the porcupines shot spikes in her direction.

Su Jin, intending to deplete her special ability, did not immediately resolve them all at once, but instead placed her hand on the ground and controlled her Wood Element Ability to flow into the formation.

Phut,

A slender wooden spike pierced through one porcupine.

Although the porcupine’s back was hard with spikes, its belly was very soft. Caught off-guard by the sudden appearance of a wooden spike from the ground, that porcupine did not even have a chance to wail before it died.

Su Jin did the same procedure, controlling both the location and speed of the emerging wooden spikes with her Wood Element Ability, trying to make sure every spike could kill a porcupine as soon as it appeared.

On the other hand, Lu Hao did not use a group attack method either. The porcupines’ size was not very large, which was suitable for practicing the precision of his Fire Element Ability. ℟ÅℕŐBƐs

Although the Fire Element Ability was powerful in attack, since fireballs had no weight and could only hit the enemy through the Special Ability User’s control of the fire, aiming a fireball precisely at a certain part of the target was actually much trickier than marksmanship.

Lu Hao conjured a small cluster of flames at his fingertips, then controlled the small flame to flick toward the neck of a porcupine. Although the flame was small, it was very fast, and the porcupine that was hit did not die immediately but became even more cautious in dodging Lu Hao’s subsequent attacks.

Just as both of them had dealt with most of the porcupines within their respective formations, the scent on their bodies finally attracted other creatures.

Gradually, the empty ground was filled with glowing green dots, and the two of them no longer delayed, directly using their special abilities to eliminate all the porcupines within the formations.

Those green glowing dots seemed to have been observing them from the dark all along.

The two slowly moved together, standing back to back, watching their surroundings. It wasn’t until the glowing green dots finally approached that Su Jin made out what they were, a pack of grey wolves moving in groups!

“Should we enter the Space?” Su Jin asked. She wasn’t afraid of the grey wolves, but worried that the commotion they might make could attract other animals.

“No need, let’s deal with these first,” Lu Hao replied.

They had delivered themselves to our doorstep; it would be a pity to waste that.

Su Jin nodded in agreement, pulling out two Ghost Hand Knives from the Space, while Lu Hao took out the Tang Sword from behind him, assuming a defensive stance.

A grey wolf leaped onto the clearing from the bushes, and soon, the rest of the pack followed, their growls sounding like the angry barks of large dogs, saliva dripping from their jaws.

“Awoooo~”

Following the lead wolf’s howl, the pack began their attack, snarling as they rushed towards the two humans!

The wolves were wary of the Special Ability Fire in Lu Hao’s hands. Seeing that Su Jin hadn’t made a move, they all lunged at her!

Thud!

A row of wooden spikes, half the height of a person, sprouted instantly on the ground in front of Su Jin, blocking the assault. The lead wolves, charging too fiercely to stop in time, were impaled on the spikes, hanging gruesomely.

The remaining grey wolves started to grow cautious, slowly backing away as if looking for a weakness to exploit.

But the duo didn’t give them the chance; Lu Hao’s Tang Sword, now ablaze with Special Ability Fire, struck out at the pack!

The dark Special Ability Fire illuminated the woods, with many wolves screaming in pain.

Meanwhile, Su Jin also launched her attack, with vines covered in thorns sprouting around her, relentlessly whipping the nearby wolves.

Whether these wolves were mutated or not, they could feel pain. Therefore, each of the pair’s attacks was met with a chorus of agonized howls.

“Quick battle, quick decision,” Lu Hao said.

He was concerned that they might attract more Mutated Beasts, and the trees around them were already filled with “spectators” watching the battle.

The eyeballs that resembled light bulbs gave Su Jin goosebumps, even though she knew they were just mutated owls. Being watched by so many eyes in the darkness was not a pleasant experience.

At this point, the pack of grey wolves had begun to show signs of retreat, seeing that the two humans were tough opponents.

However, Su Jin had already set up wooden spikes all around, impaling a few more grey wolves. The ones trying to flee were also struck down by Lu Hao’s Fireballs, losing their lives.

The wolf pack was dealt with. Su Jin did not dare to linger any longer. She collected the bodies scattered around the ground and those within Lu Hao’s formations into the Space. Then, the two of them slowly concealed themselves behind a large tree and entered the Space.

At this very moment, on the rooftop of a stone house at the North Mountain Summit, a man and a woman stood hand in hand, astonished by the sporadic bursts of fire halfway up the mountain.

Could it be that someone climbed the mountain in the middle of the night? Or was there a fight between Mutated Beasts?

Only after the lights had completely died down did the two jump down from the not-so-high rooftop.

Whatever it was, they’d better be careful tomorrow.
