Chapter 1138: The Man-eating Jungle
Zuo Jiang's words made the other strategists feel uneasy.
"Could this place really be haunted? It feels like this trap isn't something Yuwen Luanfei could have set up."
The issue of who exactly created the trap was brought up again by everyone.
Previously, no one thought deeply about it, and at that time, everyone was full of fighting spirit, feeling capable of defeating gods and ghosts alike. Even when forced back by the trap, they only blamed their own carelessness.
This battle had completely shaken their military morale. After all, the Formation was indeed too bizarre, completely beyond their understanding.
"Could it be that even Yuwen Luanfei is already trapped in this strange Formation?"
"If that's the case, do we still need to charge in?"
Everyone turned their gaze to Yuwen Feng because only he had the authority to decide.
After a deep contemplation, Yuwen Feng said, "Bring Yuwen Jun's Guard Commander over."
"Yes."
Shortly after, Yuwen Jun's Guard Commander was brought in. Not knowing what had happened, he sensed the heavy atmosphere in the tent and wisely knelt to salute Yuwen Feng.
"This subordinate greets the Princely Heir."
"Repeat the matters here from the beginning." Yuwen Feng glanced at him.
The Guard Commander bowed and reported truthfully.
"Did you personally see them enter the forest?"
"Yes."
"Did anything unusual happen afterward?"
The Guard Commander shook his head.
"Were there any strange noises or occurrences?"
The Guard Commander thought carefully: "It seems not long after they went in, odd rustling sounds did come from the jungle, like the trees had grown legs and were moving on their own. But at the time, we paid no mind and just assumed it was the usual wind."
"Didn't you send anyone to investigate?" Zuo Jiang raised an eyebrow.
"Reply to the Vanguard Lord, at that time, our men were being slaughtered by the rebel army, and we were busy treating the wounded, so how could we dare to pursue the defeated enemies?"
His answer was sincere, and no one else had anything to say.
If it were them, they probably would not have pursued either.
However, the Guard Commander's information was still valuable to them; indeed, something odd was happening in the jungle, though it was unknown if these changes affected Yuwen Luanfei's group.
"Did they appear later on?"
The Guard Commander shook his head: "For over a month, we have been guarding this place, and no one has come out of the jungle; we are convinced they are still inside."
"All right, they're still inside? They were probably long eaten by the Mountain Goblin." A strategist muttered, wondering why this person hadn't mentioned the jungle's changes earlier, thinking the rebels had merely hidden in the dense forest; little did he know it wasn't an ordinary forest.
The Guard Commander looked bewildered, not knowing what they had discussed in the tent earlier, and why they were now asking such strange questions.
Could they really have been frightened by the jungle's Formation?
"Have any unusual things happened while you were guarding here?"
As the Guard Commander was hesitantly thinking, Yuwen Feng asked again.
The Guard Commander blinked innocently and shook his head: "Nothing at all."
"Nothing?" Yuwen Feng looked serious, as if doubting the veracity of his words.
The Guard Commander nodded earnestly: "Truly nothing. At least, everything remains normal at the Three-Branch Junction."
Seeing his sincere face, Yuwen Feng understood that perhaps the oddity was only in the jungle, while everything outside was normal.
Yuwen Feng said nothing further; he waved his hand to dismiss the Guard Commander.
