Chapter 185: What Did I Do Wrong
Inside the room, Fang Pingying heard Luo Zhiyong and Xu He exchange a few words, then the inner door was pushed open, and Luo Zhiyong peeked his head in to tell her, "I'm going to drop Xu He off at the guesthouse and will be right back."
Fang Pingying felt a surge of annoyance upon hearing this.
She hadn't even figured out why Xu He came in the first place – was she along for a visit, or what? Luo Zhiyong didn't bother to explain a word.
Perhaps in Luo Zhiyong's view, Xu He was just nobody important, and he didn't even think to clarify things with Fang Pingying.
But to Fang Pingying, Xu He's arrival left her feeling unsettled.
Especially now, it was clear that Xu He had started playing her games as soon as she arrived.
If Xu He was going to stay at the guesthouse, why didn't she leave with Fang Xiu and the rest earlier? Why did she insist on making Luo Zhiyong take her? What was she up to?
And Luo Zhiyong, without a second thought, really just went off to drop her at the guesthouse alone – who knows if he'd come out of that alright.
Whatever, if he really dares to be lured into doing something betraying, I'll just go file for divorce tomorrow. I'm truly sick of the whole Luo Family, including Luo Zhiyong.
That's what she said, but deep down, Fang Pingying was still worried.
Whenever there was the slightest noise at the front door, she would prick up her ears to listen, checking if it was Luo Zhiyong returning.
After waiting for nearly fifteen minutes without his return, Fang Pingying grew irritated and locked the shop door with a snap.
The walk to the guesthouse only takes four or five minutes. What could they be doing for so long?
Having locked the door, she then changed out Luo Honglan's bedding for her usual set.
Just as she was about to head into the kitchen to cook, she heard knocking at the door, followed by Luo Zhiyong's voice, "Wife, open the door."
Fang Pingying felt a twinge of relief upon hearing him, stood up to open the door, but instead of doing so immediately upon reaching it, she first asked, "Did you come back alone?"
Luo Zhiyong, not understanding Fang Pingying's implication, rubbed his freezing hands outside and replied, "Yeah, Hong Lan hasn't come back yet. They've got a big room over there with two beds, more than enough space."
Fang Pingying could hear the sound of his rubbing from behind the door and felt a pang of pity, so she quickly opened it. However, when she did, she looked indifferently at Luo Zhiyong and asked, "What's wrong, didn't stay the night over there before coming back?"
"What nonsense are you on about? I just dropped Xu He off and took the chance to sit for a while in my mother's room," Luo Zhiyong sensed that Fang Pingying wasn't in a good mood today, stepping inside and tentatively inquiring, "Are you worried about my mom and your mom coming to bother you? Ever since this afternoon they saw me, you've only given me cold looks."
Fang Pingying gave him a blank look, her expression detached, "You said it yourself, they sneakily followed us here, you didn't even know, why would I be upset with you over this?"
"Then why are you upset?" Luo Zhiyong was utterly baffled, he had always thought that Fang Pingying was angry over that matter.
"Figure it out yourself. If you haven't figured it out by tonight, no dinner for you." Fang Pingying gave him a glance and thought this man was truly blockheaded. How could he still be oblivious to Xu He's feelings for him after all this time? Just how dense could he be?
Fang Pingying couldn't help but feel secretly delighted; this indicated that all of Xu He's efforts were in vain, which was incredibly satisfying to think about.
"Could it be because of Xu He?" Luo Zhiyong wondered for a long time, finally thinking of Xu He, Fang Pingying was about to nod, when he suddenly seemed uncertain and asked her, "You're not happy with how close Xu He is getting to my mom?" Fang Pingying nearly exploded with irritation, rolling her eyes repeatedly at him, "What does their closeness have to do with me? Even if your mom treats her like her own daughter, it's none of my business."
Hearing this, Luo Zhiyong suddenly relaxed and stated very confidently, "Then... I'm at a loss. Besides inadvertently bringing my mom over here, I've done nothing wrong."
Seeing him breathe a sigh of relief made Fang Pingying want to laugh, but she maintained a displeased face and asked, "Tell me, what is Xu He doing in the provincial city? And why did you bring her with you when you were just supposed to be retrieving Zhiming?"
It was then that Luo Zhiyong recalled he had forgotten to explain to Fang Pingying why Xu He had come along since arriving, so he immediately explained, "She said her uncle found her a job here in the provincial city, but she was a bit scared on her first train ride. It just so happened that she met us on our way to the city, so she joined us."
"That's quite the coincidence?" Fang Pingying seriously doubted the true purpose of her visit.
Luo Zhiyong, however, was quite nonchalant and even acted as if Fang Pingying was being nosy, saying, "What's so strange about that? It's just a train ride, and she'll be leaving tomorrow anyway."
Fang Pingying sneered and asked with a frown, "Will she leave tomorrow? Hasn't she asked you to take her around the city?"
Luo Zhiyong finally began to understand, recognizing the tone in his wife's voice as jealousy towards Xu He.
He felt somewhat delighted inside; his wife caring about another woman appearing by his side indicated that she regarded him as very important in her heart.
Suppressing a smile, he teased Fang Pingying, "What's wrong, do you think I'm good enough now, afraid that I might be snatched away by someone else?"
"If someone really snatches you away, my fear won't matter," Fang Pingying retorted, her face resolute as she spoke seriously, "Luo Zhiyong, let me be honest with you, if you ever get entangled with another woman in a messy way, we are getting divorced immediately, without a minute's delay."
Luo Zhiyong smiled helplessly, "Now you're just getting carried away. Which of your eyes saw me getting involved with another woman?"
Fang Pingying curled her lips, thinking to herself that Xu He was exactly that—dragged from the village to the provincial city, and who knew what would happen next.
But it was clear to her that Luo Zhiyong didn't even give Xu He a second glance; he probably brought her to the city just as a favor, as he would have done the same for any other girl from the village.
Moreover, she had reminded him of what she needed to; if she said any more, it would seem overly suspicious and paranoid.
Seeing her fall silent, Luo Zhiyong thought she had reflected on her overreactions and reached out to pinch her face gently, pretending to be stern as he warned, "Remember, don't casually bring up divorce in the future. It upsets me, and I have no intention of ever letting you go in this lifetime."
Hearing this, Fang Pingying felt deeply reassured and incredibly sweet inside, but she still scolded him with a glare, "I don't care if you're happy or not..."
Before she could finish speaking, Luo Zhiyong kissed her passionately.
The kiss began as if it were meant to punish; just as Fang Pingying's lips began to numb from the bites and she opened her mouth to speak, Luo Zhiyong's tongue slid in opportunistically, greedily sucking as if trying to express all the emotions in his heart.
Unbeknownst to her, Fang Pingying was jolted awake by a cool sensation, only to realize that Luo Zhiyong's hand had been moving under the hem of her cotton garment, attempting to venture further. Chidingly, she nudged him and scolded, "Stop it, we have a whole lot of matters waiting for you to handle."
