Reborn as Issei Hyoudou: The Phat to Supremacy

Chapter 15: Chapter 15: Shadows on the Horizon

The days following Dohnaseek's defeat were quiet, but the silence felt unnatural, like the calm before a storm.

Asia continued to train with her Twilight Healing, growing more confident with each session. Her natural kindness and gentle demeanor made her an excellent healer, but there was still hesitation in her movements, a reluctance to embrace the supernatural world she'd been thrust into.

Raynare, on the other hand, was a different story. She trained harder than anyone, her determination bordering on desperation. I could see it in her eyes—she wasn't just trying to improve. She was trying to survive.

And then there was me.

I had been spending every free moment honing my control over Hakai and my new Arcane Energy Mastery. The combination of destructive power and refined magical control opened up endless possibilities, but I was still scratching the surface.

I needed to get stronger.

Because I knew they were coming.

[Kuoh Academy – Occult Research Club]

Rias sat behind her desk, her crimson hair cascading over her shoulders. The rest of the peerage was gathered in the room, the atmosphere tense.

"We've received reports of increased activity from the Fallen Angels," Rias said, her tone serious. "They're moving closer to Kuoh."

Akeno smiled, her eyes gleaming. "Ara~ ara~ It seems they're getting restless."

Kiba frowned. "Do we know what they're planning?"

Rias shook her head. "Not yet. But we can't afford to let our guard down."

I leaned back on the couch, arms crossed. "Let me guess. Azazel's making his move."

Rias glanced at me, her expression thoughtful. "You seem confident."

I shrugged. "It's obvious. Dohnaseek didn't come here on his own. Azazel's been watching us, and he's testing the waters."

Koneko spoke up, her voice quiet but firm. "You didn't kill him. Now they think we're weak."

I smirked. "No. Now they know we're dangerous."

Rias narrowed her eyes. "Dangerous? Or reckless?"

"Both," I said, grinning.

Rias sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. "Just don't make things worse."

"No promises."

[Training Grounds – Later That Night]

The moon hung high in the sky as I stood in the clearing, my hands glowing faintly with a mix of Hakai energy and Arcane light.

Raynare stood a few feet away, her wings folded behind her, her gaze focused.

"Alright," I said, lowering my hands. "Let's see what you've learned."

Raynare summoned a light spear, its edges crackling with energy. But this time, there was something different. The spear's surface shimmered, layered with a protective barrier of energy she had infused into it.

She hurled the spear at me, and I raised my hand, summoning a small Hakai shield.

The spear struck the shield—and didn't dissolve immediately.

Instead, the layered energy barrier held for a moment before shattering.

I grinned. "Not bad. You're getting better."

Raynare smirked. "You're not the only one who can adapt."

I nodded. "Good. Because you're going to need it."

She tilted her head, frowning. "What do you mean?"

I glanced toward the horizon, where the faint glow of Kuoh's city lights shone in the distance.

"They're coming," I said. "And they're not going to hold back."

[Elsewhere – The Fallen Angels Arrive]

Azazel stood on the edge of a tall building, his golden eyes scanning the city below. The night wind ruffled his coat, but his expression was calm, almost amused.

Behind him, three figures emerged from the shadows—Kokabiel, the warmonger, his aura radiating pure malice; Valper Galilei, a man shrouded in twisted curiosity; and Kalawarner, her eyes sharp and cold.

"They're here," Kokabiel said, his voice low and dangerous. "The devils are getting comfortable."

Azazel smirked, swirling a glass of wine in his hand. "Good. Let's see how comfortable they are when the balance shifts."

Kalawarner frowned. "What about Raynare? She's switched sides. She knows too much."

Azazel's smirk widened. "She's a loose thread. But sometimes, loose threads can be useful."

Kokabiel growled. "And the Sekiryuutei?"

Azazel's golden eyes gleamed. "Oh, he's the wildcard. And I love wildcards."

He raised his glass, the moonlight reflecting off the crimson liquid inside.

"Let the game begin."

[The First Attack – Kuoh Town]

The attack came without warning.

A group of Fallen Angels descended on the outskirts of Kuoh, their light spears cutting through the night like streaks of fire.

By the time we arrived, half the street was in ruins, smoke rising into the air.

Rias stood at the front of the group, her crimson aura flaring around her. "Spread out! Take them down!"

Kiba and Koneko charged forward, their movements sharp and precise. Akeno hovered above, her hands crackling with lightning.

I hung back for a moment, watching the chaos unfold.

And then I saw him.

Standing in the middle of the destruction was a tall figure with dark wings and a cruel smile.

Kokabiel.

He turned toward me, his eyes narrowing. "So, you're the Sekiryuutei I've heard so much about."

I stepped forward, my hands glowing with Hakai energy.

"And you're the idiot who thought attacking my town was a good idea."

Kokabiel laughed, his wings spreading wide. "Bold words for a devil. Let's see if you can back them up."

I smirked. "Oh, I'll do more than that."

I raised my hand, summoning a sphere of Hakai.

The air around us grew heavy, the ground trembling beneath my feet.

"Let's dance."
