Chapter 1020 Bloodline Suppression
Yue Xiaohu wasn't wrong; the sound of keys quickly followed.
The door opened, and Yue Qingqing peeked inside.
"Dad, Mom, I'm back."
"Oh, my precious daughter."
Zhang Ying, who was just mocking her husband, pushed Yue Jiandong aside and jogged towards her daughter, wiping her hands on her apron.
"The trip must have been tiring, come on in."
Jiang Jingze followed her with a bunch of bags in his hands.
"Hello, Auntie." He greeted Yue Jiandong inside, "Hello, Uncle."
Yue Jiandong, relying on the authority a father-in-law has over a son-in-law, responded arrogantly.
Zhang Ying was much more enthusiastic.
"Xiaojiang, why did you bring so many things? The trip must have been exhausting. Why are you just standing there? Hurry up and help!"
The last sentence was naturally directed at Yue Jiandong.
Yue Jiandong touched his nose and had no choice but to walk over indignantly to help with the bags.
He thought to himself, no wonder people say once you've settled with the mother-in-law, you've basically settled the father-in-law too.
He barely had time to put on a stern face before his wife already considered this guy part of the family.
See how affectionate her tone was? We worked so hard to raise our daughter, and now we don't even get to act a little haughty.
Despite his internal grumbling, Yue Jiandong had no choice but to listen to his wife.
Then Zhang Ying asked her daughter and future son-in-law, "Have you eaten yet? I've got something cooking on the stove. If there's anything else you want to eat, we can still buy it. There's a market in the neighborhood."
Jiang Jingze carried everything inside, "No need to go through any trouble; we had some food on the plane."
"Oh, airplane food, what's that? Even if you flew first class, it's still just a few things. At home, you should have some homemade food."
Zhang Ying was becoming more satisfied with her son-in-law Jiang Jingze by the minute.
He's good-looking and treats her daughter well, and he seems to have a gentle temperament too.
Furthermore, he's steady and reliable, already starting his career at such a young age, much farther ahead than they were back then.
Zhang Ying was already daydreaming about how cute her future grandson or granddaughter would be.
"Qingqing, go next door and tell them Xiaojiang is here and to come over for dinner."
"Got it." Yue Qingqing smiled and gave Jiang Jingze a look.
That look seemed to say, "See, the moment you're here my mom's already ordering me around," with a mock annoyance.
Jiang Jingze smiled in response.
Yue Xiaohu immediately came over.
"Brother-in-law, long time no see. I heard you're starting your own business now? Last time I was at the internet cafe playing games, a news popup about you showed up—so impressive."
Jiang Jingze modestly said, "Just okay, compared to Uncle Yue, it's just small stuff."
"Well, you're way younger than my uncle, and in the future..."
Before Yue Xiaohu could finish, Yue Jiandong patted him on the shoulder.
"Go help in the kitchen with the plates and utensils; don't you see people need help?"
He couldn't stand seeing his family one by one turning sides. Now Yue Xiaohu was boosting Jiang Jingze's ego right in front of him while lowering his own.
This year's New Year money must be deducted.
Yue Xiaohu chuckled twice and darted to the kitchen to help.
He was thinking that this year until the holidays were over, his uncle would likely be too busy dealing with Jiang Jingze to remember to ask about his grades.
"Come sit," Yue Jiandong patted the sofa, no longer wearing a stern face, though the smile he showed was quite meaningful.
Jiang Jingze walked over and obediently sat next to his father-in-law.
Then Yue Jiandong said with a smile, "You know, I actually have some old friends in Beijing, and I heard that Xiaojiang is quite the celebrity on campus."
Jiang Jingze hesitated, "Uh, not really."
Yue Jiandong gave him a mischievous wink, "How not? I heard that the former student council president at Minghua University used to like you. She was so into you like that song 'Absolute Love,' waited for you after class every day, even gave you things?"
