Chapter 12: Chapter 12: A Plan in Motion
The air was tense as Usopp stared down at the gathering of pirates below. His fingers curled into fists, his body trembling—not just with fear, but with anger.
"Kuro's been lying to everyone all this time," Usopp muttered, his voice bitter. "I knew something about him felt off… but this?"
Luffy stretched his arms behind his head, staring at the scene with a lazy grin. "So, what now, Usopp? You gonna run?"
Usopp's head snapped toward Luffy, eyes burning with defiance. "No way! This is my village! I have to do something!"
Zoro smirked. "Good. Then we fight."
"But we need a plan," Nami added. "We can't just charge in without knowing what we're up against."
Luffy turned to Usopp. "You know this place better than we do. What's the best way to stop them?"
Usopp hesitated, thinking hard. Then, his face lit up with realization. "There's a cliffside path near the north entrance of the village. If we set up an ambush there, we can slow them down before they even reach Kaya's mansion!"
Luffy nodded. "Sounds good. And I've got another idea."
Everyone turned to him.
"We let Koby take the credit for defeating Kuro."
Usopp blinked. "Wait… you mean the little pink-haired guy from before?"
"Yep."
Zoro raised an eyebrow. "Why?"
Luffy grinned. "If Koby takes down Kuro, the Marines will recognize him as a hero. It'll help him get promoted."
Nami crossed her arms. "So, you're setting him up to join the Marines for real?"
"Yup."
Usopp looked between them, his confusion fading into admiration. "You're really thinking ahead, huh?"
Luffy just grinned wider. "I just do what feels right."
The group moved quickly. Usopp ran off to gather supplies from his hidden stash—slingshots, homemade explosives, and oil to make the ground slippery. Meanwhile, Zoro scouted the best vantage points for an ambush, while Nami worked out escape routes in case things went south.
Luffy? He just took a nap.
By the time the sun began to rise, everything was in place.
Usopp stood at the cliffside, looking out toward the ocean. The Black Cat Pirates were approaching, their sails barely visible against the horizon. He took a deep breath.
"This is it."
Luffy patted him on the back. "Ready?"
Usopp swallowed hard… then nodded. "Let's do this."
