Reborn as Richard Castle in Criminal Minds

Chapter 295: Chapter 296: The Choice

Castle was driving home when he heard an alert from his phone while waiting at a red light. The alarm sound was set specifically for emergency calls from Fatty. As soon as Castle picked up the phone, he heard Fatty's scream and a desperate "Uncle Rick, help me..." before the line went dead. In that instant, Castle realized what was happening. The mysterious party that had used military drones to track Fatty today hadn't left; they were planning to kidnap Fatty. It seemed they believed the drones were Fatty's creation and didn't know they were Castle's work. This explained why they waited until Castle left before making their move.

Ignoring the red light, Castle made a quick U-turn. Considering his connections with the NYPD, a traffic violation was the least of his worries. With Fatty facing imminent danger, Castle couldn't care less about being caught by traffic cops. He sped back to Fatty's house as quickly as possible.

Meanwhile, the three men in black at Fatty's garage were struggling to open the door. For some reason, their equipment couldn't bypass the security measures Fatty had implemented. They couldn't use explosives, as it might alert the neighbors and possibly damage the drones inside. Frustrated, they were at a loss.

The leader of the group, having helped carry the tranquilized Fatty to a black SUV, came over and spoke in a low voice. "Hurry up. This Fatty was more alert than we expected and managed to send out an alert while we were capturing him. The writer, Richard Castle, who just left, is now aware something's wrong. He might have already called the police. We need to get those drones before they arrive. What's taking so long?"

The three frustrated men explained, "We can't open this garage door with our usual methods, and we can't use explosives without risking damage to the drones or alerting the neighbors."

The leader, knowing Castle had left less than ten minutes ago and might not be far, felt the urgency. If Castle had received the alert and was on his way back, time was critical. He didn't want to confront an already agitated NYPD.

"Alright," he decided, "I'll stay here and keep watch. If the police or Castle show up, I'll hold them off. You three need to get that door open and retrieve those drones. The board is waiting for good news!"

The three men nodded, and the leader instructed the team in the SUV to leave with the unconscious Fatty. He then stayed behind with the others, trying various methods to open the garage door.

As Castle sped down the street, he saw the two suspicious black SUVs parked outside Fatty's house. Anger surged through him. He grabbed two Glock 17 pistols from his car, ready to confront the intruders. If they had taken Fatty, he was determined to make them pay.

Castle was puzzled about who these people were. He had planned to negotiate with anyone interested in his drones, but these people had rejected his goodwill and kidnapped Fatty. Were they so arrogant, or did they think Castle, who had just taken down Simon's crew, was incapable of fighting back?

Castle quickly pieced together their motive. These people underestimated him and assumed the drones were Fatty's work. They likely thought kidnapping Fatty would be easier and attract less attention than going after Castle, a known figure in New York. This was why they waited until he left before making their move.

Castle didn't hesitate. He knew he had two options: reveal himself as the true creator of the drones or take down the intruders and interrogate them. He chose the latter. It was time to send a clear message.

Castle floored the gas pedal, driving aggressively toward the house. The leader of the black-clad team noticed Castle's car approaching at high speed and realized they were out of time. "Damn it, the writer is back! Why didn't he call the cops?"

Castle pulled up about a hundred meters from the house. He saw the leader standing by the garage door, directing the others. Without waiting, Castle stepped out of his car, guns in hand, ready to confront them.

As he approached, Castle aimed his pistols at the leader and shouted, "Drop everything and get on the ground!"

The leader turned, startled, but didn't comply. Castle fired a warning shot into the ground near the leader's feet. "I won't miss the next time," he warned.

Realizing the seriousness, the leader hesitated but still tried to reach for his gun. Castle shot him in the leg, causing him to collapse in pain. The other three men, seeing their leader down, froze in place.

"Now, you have a choice," Castle said coldly, advancing towards them. "Tell me where you're taking Fatty, or you won't leave this place alive."

The men looked at each other, then one of them spoke up, "He's in the SUV heading north. They're taking him to an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts."

Castle nodded, keeping his guns trained on them. "Good. Now, open the garage door and show me the drones."

The men quickly complied, using their equipment to finally unlock the door. Inside, Castle saw his drones, untouched.

"Thanks," Castle said, not lowering his guns. "Now, you're coming with me. We're going to get Fatty back."

The men had no choice but to follow Castle's orders. He quickly bound the leader's wound, making sure he wouldn't bleed out but couldn't escape either. With the three intruders in tow, Castle secured the drones and prepared to rescue Fatty. The fight wasn't over yet.
