Chapter 182: Chapter 174
The air was thick with tension as Vasileios engaged the Goliath, its massive form looming over him like a mountain.
He stood as a shield, a distraction, drawing the monster's relentless fury away from his companions.
While Vasileios played the role of bait, his allies were far from idle.
Nikolaos felt a surge of energy coursing through him as he activated his skill, "Feral Wolf Spirit."
A primal roar echoed in his chest as he transformed, his humanoid features melding into something more feral and powerful.
A toothy grin split his face, revealing sharp canines that glinted with anticipation.
He flexed his clawed hand and readjusted his grip on the spiked maul, ensuring it felt secure and ready for the devastating strike he was about to unleash.
With a primal howl, Nikolaos sprinted toward the Goliath, each stride building momentum.
The ground trembled beneath his feet as he closed the distance, the beast oblivious to the danger approaching from its flank.
The activation of "Feral Wolf Spirit" had granted Nikolaos a significant boost to his physical abilities, while his second skill, "Bone Crusher," was triggered, amplifying his strength even further.
The Goliath, a colossal humanoid monster, housed numerous large bones within its body, meaning Nikolaos' "Bone Crusher" skill was at its peak effectiveness.
His stats were also nearing the threshold of the next level, making the effects of his abilities even more potent.
Nikolaos' felt his body brimming with power that, he could barely contain.
Meanwhile, Vasileios struggled to maintain his footing under the Goliath's relentless assault, feeling the strain of his taunt skill as its duration neared its end.
The giant was fixated solely on him, a fact Nikolaos keenly observed.
The Goliath's hand pressed against the ground for support while its other hand swung at Vasileios like a wrecking ball.
A knowing smile crept across Nikolaos' face as he closed in, instinct guiding him toward the creature's vulnerable point.
He would make the Goliath lose that support.
'Here goes nothing!' he thought, channeling all his strength as he swung his maul with the force of a freight train.
"S-smaaaaaaaash!" he yelled, unleashing his attack.
The sound of metal striking flesh resonated through the battlefield as Nikolaos' spiked maul connected with the Goliath's supporting hand.
Boom! Splat!
The impact sent shockwaves through the air, and the Goliath emitted a deafening wail as Nikolaos' weapon dug deep into its flesh, splintering bone and sending shards flying in all directions.
The ground shook violently as the creature lost its balance and fell flat with a thunderous crash.
Vasiliki, witnessing the opening created by her companions, wasted no time.
She had already begun chanting when Vasileios activated his taunt skill.
The initial plan had been to use a series of calculated strikes to gradually wear down the Goliath, but the creature's unexpected fall shifted the tide of battle.
With her heart racing, she invoked her strongest spell, "Ice Golem."
Icy energy crackled around her, beginning to form a humanoid figure—a construct of pure frost ready to heed her command.
Although controlling the spell remained taxing, she had made significant progress over the past few months.
Dimitra, sharp-eyed and decisive, quickly grasped Vasiliki's intention.
"Everyone, focus on its limbs! Keep it down!" she called, her voice cutting through the din of battle like a knife.
Clair, Michalis, Nikolaos, and Eleni sprang into action, targeting the Goliath's limbs with powerful strikes, ensuring it remained pinned to the ground.
Meanwhile, Dimitra nocked arrows to her bow, her gaze fixed on the creature's face.
Aiming for precision, she knew that any distraction could mean the difference between life and death.
The Goliath, though incredibly strong, was now a large, stationary target, vulnerable to their strikes.
"Let's give it something to focus on!" she yelled, releasing her arrows in rapid succession, each one striking a critical point on the Goliath's head.
Dimitra felt a mix of delight and frustration with the current situation.
The Goliath's immobility allowed her to hit it with ease, triggering the effects of her special skills—a fact that thrilled her.
However, she was acutely aware of her limitations; the arrows she used could not be retrieved, leaving her with dwindling ammunition.
'Sigh, if only I had something like infinite arrows, I could do so much more,' she thought, watching as yet another energy arrow popped the Goliath's regenerating eyeball, leaving her both satisfied and vexed.
As Vasileios caught his breath, he joined Dimitra in attacking the Goliath at melee range, his heart pounding in rhythm with the chaos around him.
The adrenaline surged as he prepared for another onslaught as soon as his taunt skill had completely worn off.
Every moment felt surreal; in just ten seconds, the tide had turned entirely. Confidence surged through him.
"Keep it up! We can bring this thing down!" he encouraged, shouting to the others, who were now fully engaged in the battle.
The Goliath, now aware of the assault on its limbs, let out a furious roar.
It attempted to right itself, but Nikolaos was relentless.
He swung his maul again, this time aiming for the Goliath's knee.
Crack!
The sound of bone breaking was sickening, and the Goliath bellowed in pain, its regeneration kicking in, but not fast enough.
The creature's attention was split, trying to fend off Vasileios and the barrage of arrows from Dimitra while battling against the relentless strikes from Nikolaos and the others.
Yet, the Goliath was not defeated.
With a surge of strength, it managed to shift its weight, attempting to rise.
Clair gritted her teeth, knowing she had to act fast.
"It's trying to get up! Hit it harder!" she shouted, her voice rising above the cacophony.
She struck with fervour, attacking any joints her spear could penetrate.
Eleni, her eyes wide with determination, charged forward, squeezing her skill 'Amplification' to its maximum.
"Let's show this monster what we're made of!" she cried, joining Nikolaos in targeting the Goliath's other knee tendons.
Their attacks struck true, the Goliath's leg buckling under the pressure, but it was still not enough.
The creature roared in defiance just as Vasiliki completed the formation of her Ice Golem.
With a flick of her staff, she directed it to slam down on the Goliath's body, the icy form crashing into the monster with a chilling impact.
"Now, Michalis!" Vasiliki commanded, her voice laced with urgency.
With a renewed sense of urgency, Michalis teleported above the Goliath as it struggled to free itself from the icy constriction of Vasiliki's spell.
He had completed his spell chant a while back, waiting for an opportunity to use the floating daggers of darkness behind him.
With the addition of the buff provided by his skill 'Scenting Blood,' Michalis delivered a powerful strike to the creature's head, teleporting a sizeable chunk of it away with his magic. Performing this feat was very taxing on Michalis's mind reserves; it was a little trick he had picked up after months of experimenting with his magic.
Whenever he overloaded any his daggers of darkness with mind, and embedded it on any surface, while simultaneously activating its teleport function, the daggers teleports a chunk of the area it is embedded within instead of him to a random location.
It was an accidental discovery that occurred when he made a mistake with the mind output of his spell.
The Goliath, not one to give in easily, swung its arm wildly in retaliation, catching Michalis off guard as the recoil from the feat he had just performed hit him.
"Look out!" Dimitra shouted, her arrows momentarily forgotten as she rushed to help him. In a split second, Michalis dodged, but not without consequence.
The Goliath's fist grazed his side, sending him flying and sprawling across the ground.
Pain shot through him, but he quickly regained his footing; luckily, a silver glow enveloped his body just as the Goliath struck him.
"I'm fine! Keep attacking!" he called out, gritting his teeth against the pain.
He then turned to Vasileios and nodded in appreciation.
Vasileios had activated his skill 'Sacrifice' to absorb most of the damage dealt to Michalis, so he made it out almost unscathed.
'Cant believe, he is tanking the full brunt of this shit' Michalis thought, shaking he head before rejoining the battle.
Meanwhile, Nikolaos, sensing the Goliath was beginning to regain control, prepared for another strike.
"This ends now!" he growled, swinging his maul with all his might, aiming for the Goliath's exposed shoulder.
The creature howled in agony as Nikolaos's weapon connected, but it was still not defeated. With a final, desperate act, the Goliath forced itself to rise, pushing against the ice and the onslaught of attacks.
It was a difficult opponent, its regenerative powers proving a daunting challenge.
"Focus on its head and limbs! That's where it's weakest!" Clair yelled, desperation creeping into her voice.
Vasiliki, seeing the Goliath's struggle for power, intensified her concentration.
"Ice Golem! Hold it down!" The golem responded, wrapping its icy arms around the Goliath's torso, freezing it in place.
Emboldened by their teamwork, the group rallied together.
"Now!" Vasileios shouted, leading the assault once more, with everyone following suit.
With one final, collective effort, they unleashed their most powerful attacks.
Arrows flew, magic crackled, and the sound of metal striking flesh filled the air.
The Goliath roared, its voice a chilling echo of defeat as the combined might of the party bore down upon it.
As the dust settled, the Goliath fell silent, its massive form collapsing beside them, its body turning to dust.
Vasileios, panting heavily, looked around at his familia, their faces a mixture of exhaustion and triumph.
"We did it…" he breathed, disbelief and relief flooding over him.
Michalis smirked, his eyes sparkling with joy.
"I told you, we could take it down together," he said.
Nikolaos, still caught in his feral state, howled triumphantly, raising his maul high. "Victoryyyyyy!" he cried, and his companions joined in, their voices echoing in the aftermath of their fierce battle.
Draco smiled, his heart swelling with pride for his familia members.
They had faced an almost impossible opponent and emerged victorious.
Though there were things they could have done better, he wasn't going to mention them, at least not now.
