Reborn to Burn the World That Cast Me Aside

Chapter 4: Chapter 3: Magic

For the first time… for the first time in my whole life — in this life and even in my previous one — I had something that belonged only to me.

Something only I could do.

Something that didn't require me to be seen.

Something... real.

Magic.

Real magic.

I laid on my bed, staring at my open palm, where I had just cast my very first basic spell.

"I actually did it… I actually used magic… and it even worked."

I rolled around my bed, kicking and squirming with excitement for the very first time in my life. And the only thing I could think about was magic, magic, magic — it was all just about magic!

I can't believe it… magic really exists in this world. But I guess it'd make sense. Since this is another world, after all… still, it's incredible

I laughed, overwhelmed by the sheer wonder of it all. And even though it was late, the only thing I could whisper was:

"I wanna learn more. I need to learn more magic…"

I was completely thrilled. I clutched my chest, smiling wide.

I think… this is the first time I've ever felt this way in my whole life

For the first time, I wanted something — something I could do without anyone's permission or approval. And maybe, just maybe… if I did…

"I can be seen for who I really am…"

That was my wish.

Still, I grinned and muttered under my breath:

"Haha… I can't believe I can actually do magic… this is so cool."

I laughed again, unable to contain my joy. But unknown to me, someone had been watching.

Through the slightly opened door, Kaien's piercing gaze locked onto me. He watched me squirm and laugh, then silently turned and walked away — without a single hint of emotion.

But perhaps… something deeper had stirred within him. Something quiet. Something distant. Something dangerous.

The next morning, sunlight pured over the Valebran estate, lighting up the halls in golden rays.

I slipped through the corridors, avoiding everyone as best I could. Even though most people wouldn't care where I went, I knew if I ran into Rodric, he'd probably just scold me or beat me again — so I had to avoid him at all costs.

"I've got to be careful," I muttered, clutching the magic textbook in my hands. I'd taken it from the library.

I need to find a quiet place… somewhere I can learn and practice magic.

As I crept along, I suddenly bumped into someone. I staggered back, looked up… and froze.

It was one of the maids — but not just any maid.

"Oh, Miss Clara," I said, startled.

She smiled gently. "Oh, Young Master Machel. Hello."

Clara was one of the senior maids of the estate. From what she told me, she'd worked here for a very long time. Her soft voice, gentle demeanor, and long blonde hair made her seem almost unreal. Her warm green eyes always made me feel safe. She was… beautiful.

She slightly knelt and spoke kindly to me, "Now, Young Master, you need to be more careful — especially in how you talk to me. It may cause you trouble, and I don't want that."

I blushed. "Y-Yes, I understand."

When I was reincarnated — or rather, when I was born — the one who first cared for me was Clara.

Since then, I'd seen her as a sort of mother figure. She never ignored me. She always talked to me, saw me.

Whether she was forced to or not… she still did.

She looked down at the book in my hands and smiled. "Oh, I see you've been at the library again. You even brought a book with you. What's it about?"

I fumbled to answer. "O-oh… this? It's a magic textbook. I really want to try out the spells inside."

"Magic?" she asked, her eyes lighting up. "I see… well, in that case, you should probably head to the old training chamber to practice."

"Wait… training chamber?" I blinked. 'We actully have one?'

I had never heard of it before — and honestly, that was exciting idea.

She nodded. "It used to be an old storeroom, but it was repurposed. The layout makes it perfect for practicing magic. You can even go wild in there without causing any damage."

She laughed gently.

"Really? That sounds amazing! So I can really go all out in there?"

Just as she was about to answer, her expression shifted — footsteps approached us.

Rodric.

"Tsk… what a pain," he muttered, approaching with a scowl.

Clara stood straight, bowing respectfully. "Good day, Master Rodric."

He barely looked at her. "Huh? Oh… it's just one of you maids. Hey, have you seen the little worm anywhere?"

Clara shook her head calmly. "Young Master Machel? No, I haven't seen him, sir. Forgive me."

"Tsk, whatever. That good-for-nothing's probably locked up in his room reading books again. Like that'll help him."

Rodric laughed cruelly as he walked away.

Clara watched him go, and then turned towards the hallway.

"All right, he's gone now. You can come out, young master."

She smiled as I emerged from behind her, clutching my textbook — like the coward I was.

"Are you all right, young master?"

I nodded. "Yes. I'm sorry for hiding… for being weak" I said with tears forming in my eyes.

"Don't apologize," she said softly. "You're not weak. Not at all. So please don't ever think that of yourself."

Her words struck me. Wipping the icoming tears. I was truly grateful.

She smiled again. "Now run along. You wanted to find the training chamber, right? It's just past the east wing."

I nodded, grateful. "Okay! Thank you, Miss Clara!"

She sighed playfully. "Ah, what did I tell you about that? Honestly…"

I grinned and dashed off, heart full.

Behind me, I heard her whisper, "Yoy poor child…"

Eventually, I found the chamber room. Beyond a narrow hall was a set of stairs that led downward. Honestly, it was kind of eerie — but I kept going.

I reached a heavy iron door and pushed it open.

Creeeaaaak…

Inside was…

"Whoaaa…"

It was huge — way bigger than what I expected.

The room was as wide as a playground in the neighborhood I used to live in. I set the textbook down on the ground and opened it to where I left off the last time.

According to the book, there are nine basic types of magic:

Fire

Water

Earth

Wind

Thunder

Healing

Dark

Light and many more.

From these, spells are born through incantations or magic circles. There are also combination spells and even elemental reactions.

Defense magic. Summoning magic.

There was also mention of a special category called: Aspect Magic, though there wasn't much information about it.

"Okay… so there really are all sorts of deferente types of magic in this world," I said to myself. "I should definitely try them all out. I've got all the time in the world."

That was my plan.

In my previous life… I never got the chance to do or try anything. But now…

"Now I have a chance."

I began practicing.

The first spell I chose was the one I first congerd Fire.

I raised my palm and focused.

"O ember small, hear my will. Ignite the spark within—burn and flare—FIREBALL!"

A glowing sphere of flame burst from my hand.

"I-I did it!" I gasped. "Haha! I really can use magic!"

I almost jumped in joy — but stopped. "Right… focus. I don't want to burn myself… again."

According to the book, the more mana you channel into a spell, the stronger the effect. So I focused harder. And I could feel the mana flowing through me… the fireball growing larger.

"Okay… now I just need to release it."

I took aim. "Okay! Here goes…!"

And. I fired.

The force blasted me backward — sending me flying.

"AAHH!"

The fireball smashed into the wall and exploded, shaking the entire room. Dust rained down from above. The wall cracked wide open.

I sat up, coughing. "Aww… that was amazing. I should've braced myself better, though."

I got to my feet, brushing the dust off.

As I looked at the wall, my eyes widened — the impact was far greater than I expected.

I walked over and placed my hand on the scorched surface, still warm to the touch.

"Wow… magic truly is amazing."
