Chapter 615: Chu Yin Is Dead
Gong Chen looked up at Lin Zhiyi, who was engrossed in her design work, and quietly got up to leave the study.
Standing in front of the living room's floor-to-ceiling window, he dialed Li Huan's number.
"What's with the plastic surgery?"
"My friend went to check on Chu Yin's wound, and coincidentally Chu Yin was looking at Mrs. Bai's photo. Probably because Chu Yin was worried Mrs. Bai might harm her. My friend saw it too and instantly noticed Mrs. Bai had work done on her face."
"Who performed the surgery for her?" Gong Chen asked.
On Li Huan's side, there was the sound of papers being shuffled.
"My friend said from the look of the implants, it's likely not the technique from within the country."
"My friend also commented that from a cosmetic surgeon's perspective, certain parts of her bone structure don't need alteration at all, but she did make changes, adding maturity to her appearance instead."
"Such alterations are either because of a plastic surgery addiction or deliberately done; it's unlikely a doctor's suggestion."
"But her changes are an accumulation over years, evidently to avoid getting noticed for undergoing surgery, which makes it highly likely the latter."
"I think this might be a point of entry. Her face requires constant repair and maintenance, so she must have a regular doctor."
Upon hearing this, Gong Chen recalled Yang Jingwei's appearance.
Her maintenance is exceptional, noticeably more meticulous than other wealthy women.
"Be careful, don't let anyone find out."
"What is it? Did something happen again?" Li Huan was perceptive.
Gong Chen informed Li Huan about the situation with the art gallery paintings.
Li Huan was shocked: "How many secrets does the Bai Family really hold? Ever since the Bai Family abruptly abandoned their domestic assets, I've found it odd. Wasn't there an issue when the old Bai Family patriarch was kidnapped years ago?"
Gong Chen remained silent for a moment.
"Don't let anyone else know about this yet. I recall you have some classmates who stayed at foreign hospitals; reach out to them discreetly. It's best if someone can retrieve photos of Mrs. Bai before her surgery."
"Photos?" Li Huan paused, lowered his voice, "You don't think... that's impossible, the director knows Mrs. Bai, he couldn't possibly misidentify her."
"I've investigated your director; he might not have issues, but his son died due to surgical errors. The matter was settled between both parties, and now his son works in a foreign hospital. Guess who recommended him?"
The answer is obvious.
Li Huan took a deep breath, "I understand. But as you say, we're really at a dead end with the Bai Family here in the country unless someone can infiltrate internally."
"Let's not mention this matter, Zhiyi wouldn't agree." Gong Chen rejected.
"Third Young Master, you should've been like this earlier; your relationship could've avoided detours for three years." Li Huan teased.
Though joking, there was no trace of laughter in their voices.
The complexity before them all hinted at new dangers approaching.
"Hanging up."
Gong Chen heard the sound of the study door opening, and he directly hung up the phone.
As he turned around, Lin Zhiyi emerged from the hallway.
"Third Young Master, why are you here?"
"Afraid to disturb you, how's it going?" Gong Chen put away his phone and changed the topic.
"All done, but I might need your investor expertise for a small favor."
"I can, but there must be something in return for helping you out—for your performance then."
Gong Chen said as he pulled her close.
Lin Zhiyi crashed into the man's chest unexpectedly.
The next second, her lips were captured in a kiss.
The man held her head, gradually deepening the kiss, as if wanting to imprint both of them in the deepest part.
Lin Zhiyi was almost out of breath.
Her body lightened as he directly lifted her up.
Once in the bedroom, the door gently closed.
The man grasped her waist with one hand, while the other undid his tie and most buttons, revealing a firm chest.
He leaned down and kissed her forehead.
"Tired?"
"…"
"Zhiyi, I want you."
"Tired." Lin Zhiyi almost bluntly called for moderation.
"Hmm, then I'll do the work." His voice was hoarse.
"…"
Annoying man.
His presence was so overbearing that Lin Zhiyi had no time to think wildly.
Yet even as she slept soundly, it didn't prevent her from having nightmares.
It's the same scene again, but this time it seemed to be fast-forwarding.
Then it started from when Lin Zhiyi hugged Xingxing and returned to the room.
Lin Zhiyi stood at the foot of the bed, watching herself tuck Xingxing in.
Although her complexion was poor, she still managed a smile upon seeing the child's sleeping face.
This peace lasted until sharp footsteps came from outside the door.
Lin Zhiyi stared at the bedroom door, quickly realizing it was the villa's maid.
These maids were chosen and sent over by the Gong Mansion's housekeeper.
With this relationship, seeing Gong Chen neglecting Lin Zhiyi, they never treated Lin Zhiyi kindly.
They also ignored Lin Zhiyi.
Lin Zhiyi was long accustomed to it.
Looking back now, these people were actually sent by Old Mr. Gong to monitor her and Gong Chen.
Beside the bed, she worried Xingxing might wake up and quickly got up and walked out.
The maid pointed at the children's books on the floor upon seeing her.
"Madam, the young lady isn't that young anymore. You should set rules for her. What family's daughter tosses books so disrespectfully? How could it sound to Old Mr. Gong?"
Lin Zhiyi stood there angrily wanting to rush forward.
But the other herself just lowered her head and said nothing.
Yes, her temper had worn away during eight years of marriage.
Other than facing Xingxing, she was like a walking corpse the rest of the time.
She didn't even know how to refute a maid.
"I understand."
Finally, she nodded in compromise.
It seemed that in this house, compromise was far more effective than arguing.
She stepped forward to tidy up, Lin Zhiyi followed her.
The maid stood in front of the television, supervising her cleanup like a boss.
Lin Zhiyi glared at the maid as if she were invisible.
The news on the television continued playing, gradually drowning out the maid's voice.
Suddenly, it caught Lin Zhiyi's attention.
She and her former self almost simultaneously raised their heads.
"…Currently, the remains identified include Chu Yin…"
Lin Zhiyi couldn't hear the name afterward at all.
She stared intently at the screen but was blocked by the maid's body.
Get out of the way!
The maid moved her body, revealing a corner of the screen, just in time for half a photo.
Chu Yin!
It really is her!
Impossible, how could she be dead?
Lin Zhiyi tried hard to see everything clearly but was interrupted by the maid's voice.
"Madam, it's late. Though Third Young Master isn't lacking money, he should still spend money on useful people."
The maid turned and switched off the TV.
As the screen shut off, Lin Zhiyi saw the words Bai Zhengxian.
Immediately, she began to tremble all over.
"Zhiyi, Zhiyi…"
Lin Zhiyi's trembling body was tightly embraced.
A warm hand continuously stroked her back.
"It's okay, I'm here."
Upon hearing the familiar voice, Lin Zhiyi opened her eyes and looked at the nearby man, reaching out to hold him tightly.
"Chu Yin is dead…"
"Chu Yin isn't dead; she's still in the hospital."
Gong Chen spoke softly and raised his hand to wipe the cold sweat from her forehead.
Lin Zhiyi grabbed his hand, very seriously saying, "Chu Yin absolutely mustn't go to President Bai, otherwise she will definitely die. Will you believe me?"
Gong Chen almost didn't hesitate, nodded and said, "I believe. I'll accompany you to find her later."
"Mhm mhm."
Lin Zhiyi immediately flipped the quilt and got out of bed, her legs just standing when her thighs felt sore and weak, and she fell back.
The roots of her ears suddenly flushed red, turning around to stare at the culprit.
