Reborn under the dragon pact(BL)

Chapter 13: Just for Tonight

LEO / RYN

He woke up gasping. His sheets were tangled and soaked in sweat. It was a nightmare. A cruel nightmare. There was fire, smoke, and screams—and many people burning in the fire.

"What the hell…?" he groaned as he wiped the sweat trailing down his face. His room was dark, but the moonlight filtering through the window caught on his trembling hands. He pressed them against his chest, trying to calm his racing heart.

Breathe. Just breathe.

But he couldn't. His body was shaking uncontrollably as he recalled the vivid dream where he had seen people burning inside the fire.

"Are you alright?" a voice sounded from behind the desk opposite his bed.

Ryn whipped his head around and saw a figure seated in the corner. His eyes widened in shock when he smelled Kael's pheromone.

"What the hell are you doing here, and how long have you been here?"

Kael didn't respond immediately. His golden eyes shone brightly in the dark as he shifted on the chair and headed toward the bed.
"You talk in your sleep," he whispered as he stood at the edge, staring at him.

"That's creepy. You shouldn't even be in my room."

"I know."

Ryn frowned. "You just broke into my room?"

Kael's lips quirked, but it wasn't a smile. "I'm not a creep," he said defensively. "I did knock but got no response."

Ryn shifted on the bed. "You could have quietly left, but instead you…" He paused as his eyes met Kael's.

"I couldn't leave you alone."

"How long have you been here?"

"Long enough." Kael lowered his gaze to his chest.

Ryn flushed when he realized the state he was in—bare-chested, covered in a thin sheen of sweat, and the blanket tangled low on his hips. "Stop staring, you pervert." He quickly raised the blanket and covered his chest.

Kael scoffed. "I didn't mind watching."

"Creep."

Kael didn't deny it this time.

"I had a nightmare," Ryn muttered.

"I know," Kael said, his voice quieter now. "You were crying in your sleep."

Ryn stiffened and swallowed the invisible lump in his throat. "This is so embarrassing," he groaned and wrapped the blanket tighter around his body. "I didn't mean to scream, but the nightmare felt so real."

Kael sat down on the bed in front of him. "What did you see?"

"Fire. I saw people burning, and I…" He paused and rubbed his hands together.
"It felt so real that I thought I was burning too." He gasped and placed his hand on his chest.

Kael leaned closer to him, and as their fingers brushed, Ryn tensed and moved backward.

"You shouldn't be here," he whispered.

Kael leaned closer again and reached to touch his face but stopped halfway.

"I told myself I'd stay away," he whispered. "That I'd forget about you. But I couldn't. And when I came to your room, I just… couldn't leave. I forgot I was supposed to stay away."

Ryn closed his eyes and clenched his fists tightly. He couldn't believe what he was hearing.

"Why do you care?"

"Because you are mine."

Ryn's heart fluttered, but he quickly frowned, immediately reminding himself that Kael had avoided him for days.

"No." He opened his eyes, fixing them on Kael. "I'm not yours. I saw you, Kael. At the dragon's training. You saw what was happening and you just left. I…"

"If I hadn't walked away, I would have killed someone."

"So you let me bleed instead?"

Kael didn't respond.

For a moment, there was nothing except silence. None of them said anything for a few minutes until Kael stood up.

"I hate that you make me feel this way."

Ryn gulped and shifted on the bed again.

"And how do I make you feel?"

"Unraveled." Kael walked toward the window, then looked back at him. They both stared at each other for a moment, and then he walked slowly toward Ryn and cupped his face.

Ryn's eyes widened in shock. "What the hell are you doing?!" he shouted.

Kael didn't let go. Instead, his thumb brushed gently under Ryn's eye, where a faint bruise was.

"I should have stayed, but…"

"No." Ryn slapped his hands away. "I don't want your pity."

"It's not pity," Kael retorted.

"Then what is it?"

Kael leaned closer again until their foreheads were almost touching.

"Obsession," he whispered close to his ear.

Ryn shuddered, but Kael wasn't done. "I want to lock you away," he said, his voice dangerously low. "Keep you where no one can touch you. Hurt you. Where you'll never have to suffer like that again."

"What the hell, you stupid creep!" Ryn shouted and pushed him away. "What kind of love is that?"

Kael chuckled. "Don't get ahead of yourself, little omega. I never said it was love." He folded his arms behind his back. "The bond is making me want you, and it terrifies me because I can't be away from you for long. And trust me, omega, I do not want this. But I can't stop thinking about you every second."

Ryn shuddered.

"Are you alright?" Kael quickly asked as he sat beside him on the bed.

Just like how Veyr had apologized to him, Ryn expected Kael would do the same. He waited to hear it—but it never came. That made him understand that they had their differences.

Kael wanted to show dominance.
Veyr was mischievous.
And Sylas… well, Sylas was himself.

"Are you thinking about the nightmare?"

Ryn shook his head. He wanted to say that he was thinking of ways to scream at him, but instead, he said, "The nightmare was so real, and I…"

"It's just a dream," Kael assured him and grabbed his hand, caressing it gently.

Ryn could have pulled away at that moment, but he didn't. Instead, he moved closer and inhaled his pheromone—then gasped when he realized what he had done.

"It's…"

Before he could finish, Kael had pulled him into his arms.

He resisted—barely. This was what he wanted, and the warmth was overwhelming. Kael's chest was solid and hot, and it felt like a safe place. So, he gave in to the bond. He pressed his forehead on Kael's chest, his fists clenching in his shirt. Ryn hated how safe it was.

"I'm tired," he mumbled, his voice trembling. "I…" He paused and inhaled his scent again.

"Goddess," Kael groaned as his fingers slid up to Ryn's hair. He dipped his head, his nose grazing along the curve of his neck to his hair, and he breathed in like he was starved for air.
"Damn," he whispered, his voice rough and low. "Your scent drives me crazy."

"Kael," Ryn muttered, his heartbeat thudding loudly. He raised his head to look at him—but Kael was already pulling away.

"I should leave," Kael jumped to his feet.

Ryn blinked, shocked by the sudden announcement.

"What?"

"I should leave," Kael repeated and turned toward the door. But the second he moved, Ryn reached out instinctively and grabbed his hand.

Kael froze and turned around. "What… You don't want me to go?"

Ryn sighed.

He hated that he couldn't resist the bond between them. Being close to Kael made him feel safe, and he didn't want him to leave yet.
"Tonight," he muttered. "Just for tonight… I'll tolerate someone like you."

"You terrible liar," Kael scoffed and sat down on the bed. "Well, if that's what you want… I'll stay with you tonight." He gently pushed Ryn back onto the bed and covered him up with the blanket.

Their eyes met and they remained like that for a moment until Kael looked away.

"I should, uh…" he scratched his head and laid beside him. "I should sleep," he said, resting on one elbow and staring at him.

"I saw you and Veyr tonight," Kael suddenly said, and Ryn was shocked by how quickly he had changed the topic. But he was right—he had seen them.

There was a long silence between them. It was finally broken when Kael scooted closer to Ryn, turning him around to face him, brushing a strand off Ryn's forehead.

"I don't want you getting closer to the others I should…"

"Sleep, Kael," Ryn muttered. He knew Kael was possessive of him, and he couldn't understand why it wasn't the same with the others. But at that moment, he wasn't ready to start that conversation. He just wanted to sleep.

Kael groaned. "I'll make you mine alone, no matter what," he whispered into his ear and wrapped his arms around Ryn's waist.

Ryn's body reacted quickly again, and his heart started pounding hard in his chest.
He wondered how he was supposed to survive the night sleeping next to a man whose pheromones were driving him crazy.
