Reincarnated as Nobita Nobi

Chapter 8: My Real Awakening

Holding Mom—Tamako Nobi—in my arms was... honestly, I got a little excited.

But Mom didn't suspect a thing. After she cried it out, she seemed embarrassed and gently pushed herself out of my embrace.

"Sorry you had to see me like this, Nobita. I must look awful right now."

Her eyes were still red, but honestly, she didn't look ugly at all. If anything, the red cheeks and delicate features—especially in her mourning clothes—just made her look even more fragile and beautiful.

"N-no, Mom, you're still the prettiest woman ever."

"But please, take care of yourself, okay? Don't make yourself too sad over Dad." I tried to comfort her.

She smiled a little and lightly scolded me, "Don't worry about me. I'm the adult in this house, you know. All you need to do is keep studying hard."

I wanted to tell her that I was grown up now, that the Nobi family had a man to rely on. I looked her in the eye and said, "I'm here now, Mom. You can count on me."

Mom just shook her head, acting all serious, "That's my job as the adult. It's not your turn yet. Just keep focusing on your studies."

Then she stood up, "Anyway, it's time to make you dinner." And off she went to the kitchen.

After Dad funeral, life slid back into a kind of normal again.

I kept improving at school, and this time, I didn't bother hiding it. On the latest test, I got a perfect score. Even Dekisugi only got 99.

The whole class was shocked. I could see it on their faces—no one expected me to change this much.

But then again, I guess it made sense. They probably just thought it was because my dad died, and I was working extra hard because of that.

The room filled with applause. Mr. S, our teacher, patted me on the shoulder.

"You're making great progress, Nobita. But don't keep everything bottled up inside. If you ever need someone to talk to, I'm here. Keep up the hard work, but make sure to look after yourself first."

He probably figured my dad's death was the reason I changed so much.

I didn't really know how to respond—my feelings were all mixed up. I just nodded and headed back to my seat.

Gian and Suneo were looking at me with that same old jealous-and-annoyed face.

Shizuka, though, looked worried. "Are you okay, Nobita? You haven't come over to play in a while."

I'd been busy with the funeral and honestly, I was trying to act like some reformed kid. I'd almost forgotten that in the anime, Nobita used to visit Shizuka's house all the time.

Maybe my change lately made Shizuka worry. Maybe she thought I was all messed up because of Dad's death.

"I'm fine, Shizuka. I just wanted to catch up on everything I missed before, so I've been studying hard. See? I'm doing alright." I tried to sound cheerful.

She didn't press. "Okay, but if something's bothering you, promise me you'll talk about it. Don't just carry it alone."

She hesitated, then asked, "Hey, Nobita, do you have time lately? Want to come over and study together?"

Her eyes looked a little hopeful.

"Sure! I'll come over soon."

Honestly, I'd love to spend more time with Shizuka. After all, she was supposed to be my wife in the original anime. If I could win her over early, that'd be even better.

Some dangerous thoughts started popping up in my head…

That afternoon, after saying bye to Shizuka, I went home as usual.

Maybe it's the effect of the Future Diary, but my luck is so much better than before. On the way home, no dogs chased me, I didn't trip, and I didn't get randomly hit by a ball.

Everything felt… peaceful, almost too normal.

But when I got home and showed Mom and Doraemon my perfect test paper, they couldn't believe it. Their faces lit up with joy.

To convince everyone I'd really changed, I'd been spending so much time at my desk, pretending to study hard.

Guess it paid off.

Mom and Doraemon were thrilled.

"You've been working so hard lately, Nobita," Doraemon said, honestly proud.

Mom hugged me tightly, her soft, warm body pressing against mine in a way that made my heart race. I could feel every curve of her figure, and the sweet scent of her perfume filled my nostrils.

"Nobita, you don't have to force yourself. There are adults in this house. I just want you to grow up healthy and happy."

I was caught off guard. I smiled gently, "Don't worry, Mom. I'm not forcing myself. I just want to help you out a little more, that's all."

"I want to become the backbone of the Nobi family as soon as I can."

"Ah, Nobita!" Mom was so moved, her body shook in my arms. The vibrations of her soft chest against mine made my head spin.

All I could think was—wow, so soft!
