Reincarnated As The Villainess's Son

Chapter 402: [Terror of the Dead God] [10] [Bait]

The giant mass of human flesh pulsated like a rotten heart.

I hovered silently above, the wind whipping my cloak as I stared at it—dozens, maybe hundreds of faces melted into one another.

Their arms twisted and fused in unnatural ways, eyes blinking without rhythm, mouths opening in silent screams.

It wasn't just a being.

It was a living nightmare.

As I looked around, I sensed it affecting the environment around it.

A sense of pressure weighed down the sky itself.

The clouds above had thinned, as if afraid to linger.

"Dead God…" I whispered, my voice caught as I didn't understand that thing.

Then it moved.

The abomination dragged itself forward, each shift of its malformed limbs cracking the earth beneath.

Screams echoed from the city below.

I could barely see the people running like ants against a titan.

But.... Something felt missing.

I couldn't put a finger on it but something didn't seem right.

[<You noticed?>]

'...Yeah.'

Every god no matter what type has an unnatural presence around them.

I have felt those pressures first hand so I know how they are like.

Even Taishareth when she possessed Shyamal's body had that pressure.

....But.

'This thing isn't like that.'

Even though terrifying, it doesn't have the pressure a god should have.

'...It's like—.'

[<It's not really a god.>]

'—Or the part of it that makes it a god isn't here.'

Divinity.

This thing doesn't have the divinity of the god.

[<I think so too. Legus must have split its body to make multiple parts of himself.>]

'...'

This is getting troublesome.

From my experience, I could say that—.

'It can't be killed unless all its parts are pieced together.'

[<What are you going to do?>]

I didn't answer.

Because the thing looked up.

Hundreds of eyes turned toward me, some fresh, some rotting, some stitched open—and all of them locked on mine.

The mass of mouths whispered in unison.

"…angel…"

I felt a chill run down my spine.

'What is this thing.....'

It was something that shouldn't exist in this world.

The kind of thing that claws at the edges of reality, trying to come through.

And....

Terrifyingly enough it reminds me of myself.

"Huff..."

I exhaled softly as I began to think of my plan of attack.

'It will be troublesome to kill it.'

And those civilians will be a problem.

I turned to look at them.

[<Qais!>]

'Huh?'

The thing inhaled.

And—.

It screamed.

The scream blew through the city, shattering glass, toppling weak buildings, and sending hundreds of people into unconsciousness.

The winds kicked up, tearing trees from their roots.

A visible wave of force rushed toward me.

I crossed my arms and let my wings wrap around my body, enduring the hit.

The air stung and I was thrown back.

But I remained aloft.

'Fuck.'

I dived towards the city.

Getting the hindrance out of the place will be my priority for now.

'Caldus said there was a problem with the teleportation portal.'

Taking in a deep breath, I took Spectra glasses as I wore them.

From high above I could see the entire place of the city along with its information.

Scanning the entire place, I tried to find anything that could cause it.

A list of documents filled my view as I kept on looking around.

Until I found it.

A place that had a distorted space around it.

There were three of them at every corner of the city like a triangle.

I folded my wings and rushed towards the closest one.

I descended like a meteor above an old bell tower.

It was subtle—if I hadn't worn the Spectra glasses, I might've flown right past it.

'This must be what's jamming the teleportation. A spatial lock.'

[<Destroying one might not be enough. They're working in unison to seal the city.>]

'I know. But one is a start.'

Taking in a deep breath, I used void energy to disintegrate the tower.

The air cracked open with a sound like glass shattering underwater.

Instantly, I felt the pressure ease, just slightly.

But the Dead God noticed.

Its mass shifted violently. Eyes snapped in my direction.

Arms sprouted, reaching across buildings.

A fresh maw opened on its chest, filled with black teeth.

[<You got its attention.>]

"Was hoping I wouldn't," I muttered, already dashing toward the second distortion.

The abomination howled and surged after me, moving faster than something its size should.

It forced me to move across the city and not go inside it.

Still flying, I made a ball of void energy and threw it at the second lock.

The place rippled once again and I moved to the next one.

Behind me, the Dead God was nearly upon me.

I turned back and raised my hand.

In the path of the creature, hundreds of magic circles began to form.

When the creature was above it—.

BOOMM!!!

The spell ignited like a storm of stars each one linked to each other.

I used the moment.

With every ounce of speed I had left, I shot toward the final spatial lock.

It was at the centre of the city above a statue.

I raised my hand.

The void spiraled at my palm's edge, forming a spear of pure oblivion.

I hurled the spear and it broke the statue into pieces.

A wave of reality washed over the city. The distortion cleared.

Immediately, I felt the teleportation portal flicker back to life.

The civilians could now escape.

But behind me—

The Dead God screamed, a bellow of absolute rage and despair.

I rushed back towards it before it tried to enter the city.

Taking in a deep breath, I landed at a watch tower making the creature focus only on me.

It screamed once again but this time I didn't budge.

As soon as the shockwave blast passed me, I touched my bracelet.

And took out a fifteen meter tall halberd.

Its shaft was wrapped in blackened roots, the blade shaped like a cleaved horn, half bathed in light, half in writhing shadow.

I grabbed the staff of the halberd as I looked at that thing rushing at me with hundreds of mouths open.

Its body tore through the trees, demolishing anything, devouring what it touched with limbs that birthed more limbs.

'Can it change everything into organic matter?'

I leapt from the tower as it collapsed behind me, wings spreading wide.

Flexing my muscles, I lunged the halberd into its gaping mouth on the chest.

The halberd met its flesh with a resonant, sickening crack.

The light side of the blade sliced, while the shadow half devoured.

Its body was pierced until the blade of the halberd was lodged into the ground.

The creature stopped moving.

I floated closer looking down at the creature.

As I reached above it, I sat on the base of the halberd staring at the hundreds of eyes.

[<It's not dead.>]

'I know.'

The mass beneath me convulsed slowly, as though trying to understand what had happened to it.

Even impaled, even split apart, it pulsed like it had life.

It began to regenerate at a threatening speed.

'Tch.'

Clicking my tongue in annoyance, I retracted the halberd back as I began to float away.

[<What are you doing?>]

'Giving the others the chance to shine.'

As I floated back onto the watch tower, I noticed a large teleportation portal opening up.

From within the portal the first to arrive was a woman.

A tall woman looked at me with her pale yellowish eyes with vertical slits before it shifted towards the creature.

Her dark hair, almost like the night itself, framed her face.

I immediately recognized her.

Malenia Drakex....

The youngest Archon and Nylaria's holder and also Inës' aunt.

The [Forbidden Heroine] of the [first game].

I floated at the top of the watch tower before taking my seat on its roof.

Malenia rushed past me towards the creature who had been regenerating to its previous self.

'She can take care of it.'

I thought, staring at her as she began to dismantle it with ease.

A wind blew past me as I felt two people arrive behind me.

"Do you have any way to contact Caldus?" I asked, glancing back at Elijah who folded his wings.

"He gave us these." He said, passing me an earpiece. "Why do you ask?"

"...Nothing." I mumbled, glancing at Aimar who was staring at the creature.

Placing the earpiece in, I began to speak. "Hello, can you hear me Caldus?"

A static voice echoed before he spoke. "Himmel? What happened?"

"Check for any other place where the dead god can harvest humans without any problem." I said, tapping the roof softly.

"....Why?"

"I think this one is a bait." I replied, rubbing my temples. "And like idiotic beings we took it."

Caldus went quiet for a moment.

I could almost hear him ordering those around him.

"…Give me a second, we are checking them." he finally said.

"Hmm."

I muttered, watching Malenia rip through the Dead God's form with her clawed hand.

She jumped up and then her body began to absorb every light around her.

A blink later, her body began to expand and grow.

In front of my eyes, her body turned into a black scaled dragon that jumped at the monster.

She ripped him shred by shred with her mouth and claws.

"...What is that thing?" Elijah mumbled, looking at her with a weird expression.

"A dragon." I mumbled, standing up. "That's what a complete beast ring does to a person."

"Can I turn into a dragon as well?" Aimar asked, sounding a little too excited.

"No." I replied, crushing his hopes. "But hey, you can take a partial dragon form."

His eyes shone but he just gave a grumpy nod.

"....Himmel." Caldus' grim voice echoed from the earpiece once again.

I sighed. "Where is it?"

"Another island south of where you are." He replied tiredly.

"An entire city....was massacred."
