Chapter 38: NATIONAL MUSEUM OF WEAPONS - 02
...
After saying goodbye to Yeonha, I used my flight magic,
Flying over Seoul without being seen was liberating. The city below buzzed with cars and people coming and going, completely oblivious to the fact that a Cube cadet was hovering over them like a ghost.
Glass skyscrapers reflected the vibrant glow of neon lights, while electronic billboards displayed state-of-the-art advertisements, promoting everything from the latest technological gadgets to new talent in the entertainment industry. Giant screens projected vivid images of pop idols, news presenters and commercials for magical artifacts, blending the modern and the supernatural in an almost mesmerizing way.
Delivery drones sliced through the skies on automated routes, while autonomous vehicles glided along the avenues below, creating a light show reminiscent of moving constellations. The very air vibrated with the energy of the metropolis, a city that never slept, where technological advancement and magic coexisted in a chaotic and fascinating balance.
And there, in the middle of it all, I was floating invisibly, observing Seoul from an angle that few could experience.
The wind brushed my face as I moved at high speed, and in a few minutes I was over the museum's immense building. I could have arrived much faster, but I chose to enjoy the view from above.
Landing discreetly on top of the building, almost 250 meters away from the museum, I deactivated the
"Um! I think I'm too early."
I looked at the watch on my wrist and realized that it had really only been 10 minutes since we parted company with the president. It was to be expected that Nayun, Hajin and Suho hadn't arrived yet.
'While they're gone, let's take a walk around the area and enjoy ourselves a bit.'
With that thought, I activated
The Yongsan district was one of Seoul's most vibrant, with wide streets, sophisticated cafés and tech stores. Although my main objective was the museum, there was no harm in enjoying the trip a little.
As I walked along, I passed a clothing window.
Mannequins displayed well-cut suits, elegant coats and casual clothes from luxury brands. My closet was already decent, but it wouldn't hurt to have a few extra pieces for special occasions.
'Would Nayun like to see me in something more formal? No, there's something better... Ah, the cosplay stores... Nayun as a bunny would be amazing. Hah, but I doubt she'd accept so easily. Whatever, it doesn't hurt to try.'
I laughed quietly and continued walking through the busy streets. Seoul really did have it all. After a few minutes exploring, I found a store specializing in costumes and cosplays.
The window was eye-catching, with mannequins wearing costumes of popular characters, from armor from famous RPGs to idol costumes. In the corner, a set of bunny ears and a tiara caught my eye.
"Perfect."
I entered the store without hesitation. The interior exuded a light scent of new fabric, and the walls were lined with well-made costumes. An employee greeted me with a polite smile.
As she did so, she choked, and then, after calming down, she spoke.
"Welcome! Can I help you find something?"
Hmm! Does my appearance affect normal people more than those with mana?
The answer was no. The only difference was that, in the Cube, I used a magic capable of slightly distorting people's senses. If it weren't for that, a lot of girls would be throwing themselves at me all the time.
'Even using my magic, she was still affected by my appearance. I guess my charm is really strong.'
"Yes, I want that bunny and nurse set."
The attendant blinked a few times in surprise, but soon recovered.
"Of course, we have them in various sizes. Is it for a present?"
"Yes, for my girlfriend."
I answered without changing my expression, ignoring her curious stare as she prepared the clothes I'd ordered.
As I was leaving the store with the bag stored in my dimensional inventory, I felt an insistent gaze on me.
As I turned my head, I noticed a woman with black hair and dark eyes staring at me with an empty expression.
"Uh!"
No, that can't be who I'm thinking of...
'Just to make sure...'
I activated my magical eyes of perception, which allowed me to see things that weren't normally visible to the naked eye.
'That's her... Boss, one of the heroines who wasn't supposed to show up until a bit later. But what is she doing here? Don't tell me...'
Yes, that could only be it: she's possibly interested in me and has come to see me in person.
"That can't be it."
As I analyzed the situation, my thoughts were spinning. If it was just a question of presence or charisma, I could understand, but there was something deeper. I took a clear example: her interest in Suho and Hajin.
Suho had captured her attention because of his special gift and his title of genius, having come first among many other cadets from famous families.
And Hajin... well, she only showed any real interest after seeing him use his Anti-Magic bullet in combat.
And me? I didn't do anything noteworthy. I didn't do anything great, I didn't show exceptional skill, I just did some simple fire magic.
Boss didn't approach others for no reason. On the contrary, she was extremely selective. This meant that there was something about me that made her want to watch me.
But why?
In any case, ignoring her is the best course of action for now. Maybe it's just my head.
'Let's go back and wait for the incident to start.'
Without letting myself be affected by her gaze, I continued walking as if nothing had happened. If it was just a coincidence, there was no point in worrying. But if Boss really was interested in me, she wouldn't disappear so easily.
Returning to my original observation point, I activated my flight and invisibility magic and looked at the museum again. As I watched the tourists and waited for the others, time passed quickly.
And then... Two familiar presences appeared before my eyes. Even though I was more than 200 meters from the museum, I could see everything below as if it were in front of me.
"Finally."
Chae Nayun and Kim Suho had arrived. Just like in the original novel, the event would start soon.
I adjusted my position in the air, ensuring a perfect angle to observe the incident that was about to take place.
Down below, Nayun and Suho were walking towards the museum entrance. Nayun seemed excited, gesturing a lot as she spoke, while Suho, with his usual calm, just listened. The scene was almost commonplace, but I knew that this tranquillity wouldn't last long.
"Now all that's left is Hajin..."
It wasn't long before he appeared. Unlike the two of them, Hajin was alone, walking in a hurry and observing his surroundings carefully. He seemed to sense that something was about to happen.
And he was right.
My magical perception picked up a disturbance in the flow of energy around the museum. It was subtle, like a slight distortion in the air, but it definitely wasn't natural. Something, or someone, was manipulating the mana in a suspicious way.
"Here we go."
The attack was about to begin.
Far from the public eye, in the shadows of the city, the "Djinn Association" was moving its pieces.
Just like the Heroes Association and the other various associations around the world, the Djinn's also had their own organization: a clandestine network of powerful and unscrupulous individuals who acted for reasons of their own. And now, they had decided to act.
And who was this person? It was a child who claimed to have a special gift.
The reason? Perhaps fear that it would develop and become stronger.
Information about this child's special gift spread, arousing interest and fear among the Djinns.
The first sign of the attack came in the form of a subtle tremor in the ground, almost imperceptible to most people. But I felt it. Then a roar filled with fury and destruction echoed through the streets.
The monsters had arrived.
But that was just a distraction.
Inside the museum, a second attack was underway. Inside, the true objective of the Association of Djinns was hidden. While the monsters terrorized the outside, causing panic and chaos, an assassin with only one goal hid inside: to kill the boy with the special gift.
'So that's how they appeared... Someone must have summoned them out here.'
In the original work there was no information about the origin of these monsters, but now I can see small magical circles around the museum.
'I see... I hadn't noticed them because they hadn't been activated yet. They really planned everything.'
...
