Chapter 229.3
A few days after Welner and the others left the fort, which was a supply collection point.
Count Knewbell, a Farlitz nobleman who was responsible for the Farlitz’s army sent as reinforcements for the Coltrezis House, was enduring the hardships along the roads of the Coltrezis territory with his soldiers and horses.
Fortunately, the weather was good and it was a clear day. However, beneath a hill with no protection from the sun, the heat would build up inside the armor if they were to remain exposed to the sun from early morning. It would not be unbearable, but it would certainly be difficult.
It was difficult to know when the enemy supply troops would arrive, and there was a possibility that monsters might appear, so they could not take off their armor and wait.
“Count, they’re not coming.” (Soldier)
“I’m sure they were in a nearby village yesterday.” (Knewbell)
The Count looked confused when asked by a young knight wearing expensive armor.
At the very least, the Count had been notified that [Welner] had been gathering labor to load supplies in a nearby village the day before, and it was confirmed that a supply convoy from the Bain Kingdom army had arrived in the village. The supply convoy should have arrived at the hill where they were currently hiding by noon at the latest.
However, even after noon, when the sun was slowly setting, there was no sign of the Bain Kingdom army soldiers or supplies. The Count could only be perplexed.
He waited for a while longer, but the Count could no longer bear the enemy’s absence and sent out several scouting horses. One of them returned with a report that he had found several armed villagers, so he ordered several knights to bring the peasants to him.
After a little while, the knights finally returned with the group. When the armed villagers pleaded for their life by saying that their weapons were to protect them from monsters, the Count reassured them by saying that he had no intention of killing them.
The count exclaimed in shock after hearing the details.
“Stomachache?!” (Knewbell)
“Oh. Apparently, [Viscount Zeavert], who was responsible for command, had been in bed since morning, so the departure was postponed until tomorrow.” (Villager 1)
“We also reloaded the wheat bags and other things, received our lunch and daily wages, and then disbanded. We were told that we could leave our luggage as it was, as we would be leaving early tomorrow morning.” (Villager 2)
(T/N: These “villagers” were actually commoner soldiers who were forcibly conscripted by Coltrezis House and were now let go by “Welner”.)
“…” (Knewbell)
The Count was speechless after hearing the farmers’ explanation, and it was difficult to blame him. He was a knight of this world after all. He had been educated to see the most considerable value in fighting head-on and winning, but this time he reluctantly agreed to raid the supplies as part of the strategy.
However, he ended up waiting all day for an unexpected reason.
The news that the reason the Bain Kingdom army had not come was because of [Welner]’s stomach pain spread quickly among the Farlitz army. It did not take long for an atmosphere of shock to spread throughout the Farlitz army.
“Count Knewbell, your orders…” (Captain)
“…withdraw to the camp…” (Knewbell)
After giving the order to release the peasants, the Count remained silent, and one of his knights called out to him timidly, to which the Count replied in a voice that sounded truly exhausted.
It would be difficult to blame anyone for the enemy general’s illness, but thinking so did not make him feel better.
The horse, which had been left in the saddle for a long time in preparation for the attack, snorted in dissatisfaction. While soothing their horses, the entire Farlitz army started moving with heavy steps towards the camp in the forest.
These farmers were not lying. However, they did not know that after giving them their daily wages and sending them out of the village, [Welner], who was supposed to be in bed with stomach pain, ordered all the soldiers to unload the luggage that the farmers had once loaded onto the carts, and that a group of adventurers led by Scout had been sent to follow the group of farmers that had been dispersed, especially the villagers who were heading towards the fort on the Coltrezis side.
Then, exhausted from waiting, the Farlitz army returned to the forest where the camp was located with a slow gait. It was already dark when the Farlitz army returned to the camp with a water source.
While the mentally exhausted group was sleeping soundly in the camp, messengers from the Bain kingdom army were hurriedly coming and going in the darkness of night. The results came out the next day.
(T/N: One of the hardest chapters to handle till now. We even have to restart from scratch once completely.)
