Chapter 64
“Oh! So this is where you were!”
I turned around to see Angelica, dressed in a glittering blue gown, searching for me.
“I kept getting stopped and spoken to at every step… It was exhausting,” she sighed.
She was probably quite popular. Meanwhile, no matter how much I walked around, the only ones who approached me were scary-looking older men… There were plenty of cute girls dressed elegantly in their gowns, but for some reason, whenever our eyes met, their cheeks would flush red, and they’d quickly look away. Then, as I continued walking, I noticed them whispering to each other behind their hands.
Most likely, they were laughing at how unfitting I looked in these formal clothes.
“By the way, Angelica, you changed? That dress suits you really well.”
Following the etiquette of social gatherings, I offered her a compliment.
“Thank you very much. Erik-sama, you also look very handsome.”
“Ah, thanks.”
Her expression remained completely unchanged. She had probably already been showered with compliments countless times before arriving here. The only telltale sign was the slight redness in her ears, which was surely just because of the warmth in this party hall.
“So, were you looking for me?”
“Yes. Since all our classmates have gathered, I went looking for you when I noticed you weren’t there.”
“Our classmates?”
“Yes. The students who passed the same exam together. We’ll be studying in the same class for the next three years.”
“Oh, I see. But there’s only one class, right?”
The number of students who passed the survival exam on that uninhabited island wasn’t that large. Having class divisions seemed unnecessary.
“There are multiple classes, actually.”
“Wait, does that mean there are more successful candidates?”
Given the scale of the academy, I had thought the number of students who passed was strangely low, but…
“Yes, the number of applicants is quite large, so the exam locations are divided. Also, many influential nobles from other countries come here to study as well.”
Angelica’s explanation made sense.
“Everyone wants to talk to Erik-sama, so let’s go.”
Taking my hand, she led me away.
That evening, I ended up spending the rest of the party enjoying the company of my classmates before returning to the dormitory.
“The lesson for today is now over.”
The bell signaling the end of class rang, and the instructor closed his textbook.
Several days had passed since the start of my academy life.
Many of the subjects covered at the academy aligned with the knowledge I had from my previous life, so I had no issues keeping up with the lessons so far.
Most of my classmates were those who had been in Roberto’s group during the exam, so I had an easier time getting along with them, making the classroom a comfortable place.
“Honestly, though, it’s pretty boring for me.”
Eve grumbled.
Since I had been mainly focused on studying, I hadn’t gone out to explore dungeons or visit the city lately. Because of that, Eve and Kaiser were stuck idling around in the room with nothing to do.
(Can’t be helped. We’re not allowed to leave the grounds until the weekend.)
The academy followed a five-day school week, with two days off.
As first-year students, we weren’t permitted to leave the premises until the weekend. That meant we were essentially confined to the dormitory and campus.
Of course, there were shops within the academy grounds where we could buy necessities. While the facilities for training and crafting were well-equipped, there weren’t many places for entertainment.
And now, at long last, the weekend had finally arrived…
“Hey, Erik-kun! What are you doing this weekend?”
“Erik, if you’re free, why don’t we go out to the city together?”
Excited about their first free weekend, my classmates eagerly invited me to join them. It seemed like they were planning to head into town with their close friends.
“Sorry, I actually have something I need to take care of this weekend.”
I had already made prior arrangements for something I considered my top priority at the moment.
“What? You can’t come, Erik?”
“Erik-sama… You have plans?”
Roberto and Angelica, who had also come to invite me, looked visibly disappointed.
Facing the two of them, I apologized.
“Really, I’m sorry. I’ll make it up to you next time, I promise.”
I clasped my hands together in a gesture of apology.
