Chapter 1462: Ruby Finally Registers As An Adventurer
-----
"Ah, I messed up… I forgot wood is much softer than metal," Ruby sighed, looking at the mess she left behind after hitting the dummy with the club.
"Y-You're strong girl!" said August. "I think you're at least Tier 3 in your Physique, right?"
"Yes," nodded Ruby. "Though I think I'm rather weak compared to other Tier 3s…"
"You're kidding, right? Your arms are really strong looking! And your posture is just right as well!" August said. "Are you a blacksmith?"
"Yes I am, a failed one that hasn't made anything worthwhile… but I've been working with metals since I was a kid," said Ruby.
"That explains it!" he nodded. "If you've been a blacksmith since a very young age, you've been naturally cultivating your body through the act of forging. Constant and never-ending forging will cause your body to rapidly develop, especially if you're always in front of a fiery flame."
"R-Really? That counts as a cultivation technique?" I asked.
"I had no idea myself," Ruby confessed.
"It is not something everyone else can do though, but Dwarves or those with their bloodline have such talents," said August. "Ruby here is half-dwarf, right? And red Oni too! Those guys are really strong as well and have great affinity with flames. So the combination is truly amazing. You've been born blessed with two very compatible bloodlines, Ruby! I bet your parents must be proud of their strong daughter, hahaha!"
"A-Ah… hm," Ruby nodded, although she didn't say anything more.
"Wait so Dwarves can just cultivate their bodies through forging?!" asked Celeste.
"Not only their bodies but even magic circles can develop as they practice runic forging or magic forging, sometimes even alchemy, although that one, not everyone got the best talent for," explained August. "You see, every race has their special talent they exceed at compared to the rest. It's just a fact in this world. Even us demons, each of our tribes has that special ability, no? My tribe are big and strong, and we're good at using punching and leaving curses in our foes' wounds."
"Ooh," I nodded. "That's fascinating! Then as an elf I have a greater talent with spirit magic and forming bonds with spirits, yeah…"

"Indeed!" he nodded. "Sometimes, when someone is a hybrid between two tribes, they can develop two talents at the same time, or sometimes only one. It's just a random thing. Ruby seems to have been blessed with both of her bloodlines complete power, a rarity." He said while crossing his arms and nodding.
"Woah that's amazing Ruby!" Celica said. "Congrats!"
"A-Ah, well, thanks," nodded Ruby. "I never thought this could be a thing! I'm happy I guess?"
"Yeah smile! You're strong," I nodded. "Perhaps you'll be able to catch up with us faster by just working on your forge."
"I'm looking forward to that then!" she smiled a bit more.
"But to think a dwarf can reach Tier 3 of physique just by practicing forging… that's amazing," said Celeste. "Do Dwarves have other talents?"
"Aside from that? Yeah, the dexterity they got with their hands is really good. They have good vision as well as smell senses. Using their smell they can easily tell where there's dangerous caves full of toxic gases or where there are good minerals to mine… And of course, their endless inspiration to craft things and dig… pretty much." August explained.
"That's cool," I said. "Anyways, did Ruby pass?"
"Of course she did, with flying colors! Hahaha!" August laughed. "Now, there's two more tests. You've passed the strength test. Now you have to pass a written test."
"Written test?!" Ruby panicked. "Are you going to ask difficult questions?"
"Well not so difficult, they all have to do with things you should or should not do inside of dungeons or when exploring and adventuring," he said. "Common sense that sometimes people just don't have. And some rules and regulations… You haven't studied?"
"I-I had no idea there were so many complicated tests…" said Ruby. "Was it really this hard before?"
"Hm I guess you're not completely updated with the times, girl," he said. "Roughly ten years ago they changed the rules for someone to join the adventurer guild because of the huge amount of frauds and cowards we were getting before. Sometimes people that weren't even cut for adventuring registered to gain benefits. And we couldn't afford all of that anymore."
"O-Oh… Both of my parents registered as adventurers to gain the benefits yeah…" Ruby smiled slightly cynically. "Oops."
"Hahahah! It's fine I would have done the same in their place anyways!" August laughed.
"What benefits are you talking about?" Celica wondered innocently.
"Simple benefits that are pretty great," said August. "You gain discounts all over the city's shops and merchants for example. Even if you remain as an F Rank Adventurer, you gain a 5% discount permanently. That little discount adds on when you buy in bulk and can save lots of money. A lot of merchants and blacksmith that don't even fight registered for this reason. Another one is that there are no fees for entering dungeons, and when selling items harvested from dungeons, you get a discount of 20% from taxes."
"Taxes?" I asked. "So there's taxes for items from dungeons you sell?"
"Yeah because the dungeons belong to the city," said August. "Look I don't like it either, but the law is the law at the end. These taxes go towards maintaining our city clean and beautiful though, so I don't mind it."
"What happens with items you extract and use to make items then you sell that item?" I asked.
"As long as you sell the items here you gotta pay taxes," he said. "Usually merchants and blacksmiths simply add the tax price to their products when selling stuff… but if you got an adventurer license, that means you can lower the prices thanks to the discount, meaning more people will buy from you than the more expensive shops! Get it?"
"Yeah, that's pretty interesting…" I nodded.
"Dungeons are very vital for our growth, we harvest monster materials and mine resources from them every day," he explained. "There are also many types of dungeons. From those that are ruins infested with monsters to those regulated with special instances that are created for each party."
"Wow…"
I guess its finally time to do some dungeon delving.
