Chapter 10: Chapter 9
After he got what he needed from the gang leader, Adam did not spare him as he promised.
Allowing this kind of pest to run free would only bring more harm to other people in the future. So, he killed him and all of the other gang members before setting the police station on fire along with their corpses to prevent them from rising up again as zombies.
Next, Adam wanted to investigate the activities of the other groups, the terrorist and the cult. But from the information reported to him by the T-Dolls he sent out to investigate, the terrorist had long left. Probably because they had emptied out the military base. As for the cult, he received concerning news.
The cult he learned from Kayoko was a gathering of lunatics that worships the Honkai as god and the Herrscher's as its divine messengers, Honkai Beast as it's angels while the Honkai Outbreak as its divine punishment for humanity for their sins.
They have recruited many survivors with those who have Honkai Resistance are seen as the chosen ones by god to enter a new age. But their goal remains unknown to outsiders like Kayoko. However, from what the T-Doll Adam sent to investigate, found out. They were experimenting on their followers to integrate Honkai Beast into their flesh to create a hybrid of Human Honkai Beast and transcend their humanity that they consider is the form of the sinner their god, the Honkai, sought to eliminate.
Truly, a bunch of lunatics.
Naturally, Adam wants to eliminate them to prevent them from further spreading their madness.
But first, he must return to Kayoko and help her sort out the survivors she gathered and the other survivors Alice saved.
For the shelter, Adam had to use the apartment complex since it could sufficiently accommodate all the survivors and it was a strategic location that is easier to defend with walls isolating the apartment complex and it being located remotely from the inner city with very few Honkai Beast and Zombies wandering around. The woodland behind it could be cultivated for farming, allowing the survivors to be self-sufficient even without his constant aid.
———
Half an hour later, back at the apartment complex.
The previously deserted apartment complex now is brimming with activities as hundreds of survivors gathered.
Most of them look either excited or anxious. Those who are excited felt so because help finally arrived and those who are anxious are those who felt skeptical of the situation but still came regardless because they had no choice.
The skepticism stemmed from the lack of any visible assurance that help had arrived. After all, the ones maintaining order are only two T-Dolls Adam assigned to assist Kayoko.
"Hey, how much longer are we going to wait?"
"Do you think the help is real and not a trick from the gang to round up survivors?"
"Mom… I'm hungry…"
The survivors chatter and whisper boisterously. But none dare to be too loud as along their way here, they had witnessed the ability of the two T-Dolls in action. Their capability dwarfs their nation's military might and is capable of taking down Honkai Beast that their soldiers in the early days of the outbreak struggled against even with artillery support.
The T-Doll's capability is the only display of hope in the present which is why they are willing to bet on this chance. After all, if they can defeat Honkai Beasts that the soldiers couldn't win against. They had to be legitimate, right?
Despite the Previous Era boasting significant technological advancements even prior to Honkai's arrival. In truth, most countries had average technology advancement. The truly advanced one was the Mu continent where most technologies are concentrated. The true heart of scientific advancement where Fire Moth, the secretive organization that rivals the United Nations in influence and power by the miles, focuses and pours most of their resources to secure a winning chance for humanity against the Honkai.
With that fact in mind, most of the nations aside from the nations in the Mu Continent, are in fact quite underdeveloped. Lagging a few decades behind in technological advancement compared to the Fire Moth's occupied Mu Continent.
This fact is reflected in the military technology tree used by this Far East nation of Japan. Still using obsolete artillery pieces and slightly modernised post World War 2 level tanks in the early days of the Honkai Outbreak that struggle greatly against the Honkai Beasts while within Mu Continent, the Fire Moth soldiers are using cutting edge military weapons that can effectively deal with Honkai Beasts.
Thus, in the simple mind of these survivors, anyone with capability to deal with Honkai Beasts is effectively a Fire Moth member or associate in their eyes.
"Quiet down!"
A sharp voice cut through the restless murmurs and frantic whispers like a blade, instantly silencing the overcrowded lobby.
All eyes turned toward the speaker—a striking young man with pale white hair, as colorless as his skin, and piercing blue eyes that swept across the gathered crowd. He stood on the staircase, elevated above them, his commanding presence impossible to ignore.
"I am here to tell you the truth," he began, his voice firm and unwavering. "I am not from Fire Moth, nor am I the savior you've been waiting for. In fact, I belong to no organization tied to any nation in this world. I stand here as myself, representing my own group."
Murmurs of disbelief rippled through the crowd, escalating toward an uproar. But before it could spiral out of control, the man raised his hand, and the looming chaos halted at once.
"While I may not be with Fire Moth, I did gather you here to offer aid and support," he continued. "However, make no mistake—I am not running a charity. I have no intention of carrying those who refuse to stand on their own feet. I help only those who are willing to help themselves, not freeloaders looking to leech off me."
His gaze swept over the crowd, cold and unyielding.
"In short, this is a recruitment. Those who choose to join me will be required to take up arms and fight—not just against the Honkai Beasts that destroyed your homes, but against those profiteers who prey on their kind."
His voice hardened, each word carrying the weight of conviction.
"I am neither a saint nor a savior. Those unwilling to fight for their own future deserve nothing. I will only help those who are ready to stand and struggle for themselves."
The speech stirred the crowd.
Some were outraged, believing it was their right to be saved without conditions. Others hardened their resolve, willing to fight for themselves and their loved ones. A few whispered among themselves, their words laced with suspicion. Yet, Adam remained unbothered, his focus solely on those willing to stand beside him.
With the gang eliminated, his attention shifted to the next challenge—ensuring the survival of those who stayed.
Equipped with the Orbital Fortress, providing weapons capable of taking down Honkai Beasts or constructing impenetrable shelters was an easy task. However, food was a different matter.
The fortress housed an agricultural facility designed for closed-loop farming, capable of producing raw ingredients and supplying materials for nutrient pack manufacturing. The problem? It had been inactive for years due to power shortages. Restarting it would take time—at least a few months before it reached optimal production levels.
For now, the only available food was the stockpile of manufactured nutrient packs—futuristic MREs in the form of gel, packed with all the necessary nutrients for an adult male's daily intake. These packs, which never expired, had originally been standard-issue rations for Adam's former T-Doll army. Angeline had explained their purpose, though Adam still found it odd—why would androids, essentially mechanical beings, require food in the first place?
Regardless, after his speech, many of the gathered survivors chose to leave. Of the nearly one thousand people present, only around three hundred remained. Even then, less than a hundred were healthy adults—the majority were the sick, the elderly, and children clinging to him for hope, knowing they wouldn't last long outside.
Despite this, Adam remained optimistic.
Honkai Sickness could be treated. The elderly, while physically weaker, still had skills and knowledge to offer. As for the children—while he couldn't expect much from them, the harshness of the world had already forced many to mature far beyond their years. The weak had long perished, either in the initial Honkai Outbreak or in the brutal struggle for survival that followed.
With the first screening complete, Kayoko took over the next phase of organization.
"Sick and injured, this way! Treatment and medicine will be provided!"
"All healthy men and women, follow the soldiers to collect your equipment!"
"Children, stay here for now!"
She swiftly sorted the survivors into groups. The sick were sent for medical treatment, while the healthy were given firearms and protective gear to defend their shelter. As for the children, Adam hadn't given any instructions regarding them, and even Kayoko wasn't sure what role they could take on.
Meanwhile, in the temporary sick bay, Adam personally treated the ailing survivors.
While Honkai Sickness was the most common affliction, he also encountered numerous cases of mundane yet deadly illnesses—colds, fevers, and infections that had turned into death sentences in a world where medicine and proper care were scarce luxuries. However, whether it's normal sickness or Honkai Sickness, all of them can be treated by Adam except a few that had severe cases of Honkai Corruption.
As Adam continued distributing the nutrient packs, he remained unaware of the growing commotion in the sick bay.
A single touch—curing any illness, even Honkai Sickness?
To the patients, it was nothing short of a miracle. Whispers spread like wildfire amongst the survivors, and soon, a peculiar idea took root in their minds.
Adam wasn't just a man. He was a savior, a being sent by the divine to rescue humanity.
After all, in times of hardship and despair, people often sought solace in faith, clinging to the hope of salvation. And to those who had suffered endlessly, Adam's presence felt like an answer to their prayers.
———
Far away in the Mu Continent, the headquarter of the Fire Moth is still in an uproar even after a week has passed.
The recent expedition led by Dr Mei had not only uncovered a discrepancy in human history. But also the discovery of a potentially even more advanced civilization predated their own.
Each of the relics recovered by Kevin's group yield significant technological advancements. Especially the weapons that they had recovered.
Previously, human made weapons were terribly ineffective against Honkai Beasts. Humanity only managed to contain two Herrscher's descent with sheer overwhelming firepower, relying on the 'killing with a thousand cuts' tactic to win.
So far, only Honkai powered weapons display effectiveness against the Honkai creature.
But the weapons that Kevin's team recovered are different!
A rifle that can fire specialized airburst ammunition which accelerates to a fraction of the speed of light. It might sound underwhelming but this kind of gun can shred through a Chariot's thick carapace with sheer velocity and impact that vaporise the carapace layer by layer.
Or, a super compact and light submachine gun that shoots plasma beams. A single magazine or battery pack can shoot a hundred fifty shots before running dry. With each battery pack weighing as much as a tenth of a typical magazine, soldiers could carry more firepower that is actually effective against Honkai Beast compared to their ballistic rifle.
But, those all are pale in comparison to their true focus!
In the meeting room, a projector is displaying footage on a screen of the aftermath of the expedition recorded from a viewpoint of a drone.
The calm sea surface suddenly bulged up very rapidly like a whale emerging from under the sea except it's much more massive, displacing massive amounts of water and causing a grand tidal wave like a tsunami trying to engulf the aircraft carrier.
Then, a structure started to become visible and rapidly shot out from under the sea which measured to be over a kilometre long. Followed by a sudden sonic boom after the structure fully emerged from the water.
Seconds later, the Emperor-Class Honkai Beast codename [Leviathan] follow suit, pursuing the fleeing vessel but blasted by the sudden sonic boom as the structure already a few thousand meters in the air, hovering and seemingly deploying some sort of weaponry as the sharp lower tip of the structure unfurled to reveal a gigantic muzzle of sort, already in the process of charging with destructive energy that constantly distort the very space and light around it like glitches in reality as the quantum fluctuations distorted the vision of the cannon while bluish white lightning arcs dances across its muzzle.
A few tense seconds later, a thin, dark violet beam shoot out from the muzzle in an eerie low hum akin to deep resonating chime along with the berserk electrical discharge.
The Emperor-Class Honkai Beast, Leviathan, hit by the beam becomes still as if frozen in time before its body glows with intense light burst before it slowly fractures like a broken mirror and dissolves into mist.
The most dreaded threat of humanity, second only to the Herrschers. Easily dispatched as if nothing and based on the multiple analysis of the Fire Moth's top researchers, it appears that the beam it shot wasn't even its maximum capacity, which casted a shadow of dread and terror into the heart of all the top level administrator presents in the meeting.
Dr Mei pushed her glasses and scanned her eyes over all the councillors, directors and the Fire Moth's supreme commander's face before she coughed and added.
"According to the Third Institute's scientific team, this weapon appears to be based on highly advanced quantum technology. Their analysis suggests that the underlying principles—ranging from material science and energy manipulation to weaponized quantum mechanics—are far beyond anything our current civilization can comprehend, let alone replicate. In fact, the technological and scientific barriers required to reproduce even a fraction of its effects would take humanity tens of thousands of years to overcome at our present rate of advancement."
"In conclusion, the only plausible explanation is that the human encountered by the exploration team is not from our civilization. Instead, they are likely a survivor of a far more advanced human society—one that predates our own. This civilization may have once thrived but has since either vanished or remains hidden beyond our reach."
"Perhaps he is a remnant of a civilization that was devastated by the Honkai, having arrived on Earth to ensure the continuation of his species. It is even possible that he is the progenitor of modern humanity, the ancestor from whom our species ultimately descended from."
Dr Mei is convinced with this theory and it even coincides with the name of this human that Kevin and his team had discovered from the data they recovered. The name, 'Adam'. The name of the first human according to Christianity.
While she is not religious, she did not believe these myths are unfounded and totally baseless texts. There must be some true fact that gave birth to the myth and if her and many other scientists' conjectures are true, Adam is the key for them to overcome this Honkai disaster. However, she also cannot dismiss the restlessness in her mind that even a civilization with such advanced technology had fallen to the Honkai, how could their present civilization could.
