Chapter 5: Chapter 2339 – Memory Eclipse Gu
The battle was too intense but time waited for none.
Primordial Origin's aura swelled like an ancient sea; however, it was not firmly stabilised like before. It seeped into every dao mark across Heavenly Court.
The Venerables watched silently.
But it was Fang Yuan who moved first.
He smiled lightly and took a step back.
Only a single step.
But for the other two, it was a thunderous signal.
Star Constellation's thoughts surged.
'He's withdrawing. No, he's pretending to withdraw to try to make us think he's satisfied with Derivation Gu. He wants to lure us, he wants us to lower our guards while he targets something else...'
Giant Sun's pupils narrowed.
'He's already planned the next theft. The only reason he's backing off is because it's already in motion. Or worse, it's already done.'
They both reacted. But it was already too late.
Because that step was the final stroke in a long-prepared setup.
Fang Yuan suddenly took out one of his variant human subordinates and directly used a killer move on the variant human's immortal aperture. He pushed his plam towards the aperture and "took" something out from it.
His palm was tightly clenched as if it was holding onto a precious treasure. Suddenly, Fang Yuan opened his palm and threw the "river" at Heavnely Court.
A ripple appeared across the space in Heavenly Court.
The faint image of a river flowed at the very centre of Heavenly Court.
But it wasn't Reverse Flow River; it was the River of Time!
Boom!
The space above one of Heavenly Court's ancient vaults suddenly collapsed.
The river turned into a whirlpool and raged endlessly. The translucent whirlpool appeared and the entrance to a golden treasure vault was forcefully exposed. A thousand defensive formations crackled; Star Constellation acted quickly but was stalled again and again by Fang Yuan.
Boom!
The formations couldn't hold against the whirlpool and collapsed; but no number of Gu worms were exposed from the explosion. They had vanished.
Star Constellation's expression changed drastically.
Her voice thundered across the battlefield: "The Temporal Vault!"
Inside that vault were ancient Gu left by Genesis Lotus and the founders of Heavenly Court; they were all dangerous, unpredictable Gu that could only be sealed, never used without cost.
And now it was open.
Fang Yuan's smirk deepened.
"You two were so busy weighing intentions... you never looked beneath the foundation."
Star Constellation acted instantly.
Star Heaven's Heavnely Pillars – Eighty First Night!
[Please ignore my bad naming skills.]
With a thought, she triggered three battlefield killer moves simultaneously.
The skies twisted; all the lifeforms surrounding ten thousand li had already either died or were in the process of dying.
She dove toward the vault like a comet.
But it was too late.
From the vault, a strange sound echoed outward; it was like countless stones were hit against eachother.
And then, Fang Yuan's clones began to emerge.
...
Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh!
Each clone carried a killer move mid-prepared.
Each clone was covered in dark path, refinement path, soul path, strength path and other path's auras. But they weren't mere puppets; they could all think and act on their own. They were all full pseudo-venerable bodies, stored for one purpose: to steal!
[The clones could use only one killer move; once it was used, the clones would break apart.]
They swarmed towards the vault like a raging tide.
One went straight for a rank eight luck path Gu.
Another for a star path inheritance.
One more headed directly toward an incomplete legendary Gu – the "Memory Eclipse Gu", long thought to be sealed due to instability.
Giant Sun growled, his face turning ugly.
"So this is your plan… release chaos, while your clones ransack the foundations?"
Fang Yuan didn't deny it. He simply said:
"You both knew I would act. You simply forgot I would act through others."
Star Constellation's killer moves struck three of the clones down instantly.
But there were too many.
And she could not be in two places at once.
She turned sharply and transmitted to Giant Sun: "Either you act now, or prepare to lose everything you desire."
[She's talking about the blood path research results that were going to be traded with Giant Sun.]
"...Tch."
Golden light exploded behind Giant Sun.
He shot forward, abandoning all pretense of neutrality.
Suddenly, the battlefield turned chaotic.
Star Constellation defended the vault's core.
Giant Sun began slaughtering clones left and right, but not before snatching several Gu for himself. He wasn't helping; he was stealing from the thieves.
Fang Yuan, meanwhile, didn't even move.
He just stood in the sky, watching the madness unfold. Every few moments, he gave a silent command, and one of his clones self-destructed — taking an entire chamber down with it, denying it to anyone.
It was psychological warfare turned into total chaotic war.
One of Fang Yuan's clones stole a Gu worm and directly left the vault using an outstanding movement killer move.
By the time his clone brought back Memory Eclipse Gu, it had already collapsed entirely. Fang Yuan started to evaluate it. But there was something strange about this Gu. It interchanged between Rank Nine and Quasi-Rank Nine. Fang Yuan was about to examine it more carefully when a sudden change took place. Even Fang Yuan didn't expect what happened next.
Roar.
From far away Spectral Soul's several ear piercing howls resounded as a singular red petal came out from his flesh. The petal traveled several hundred li before appearing over Heavenly Court.
The petal turned into Red Lotus' clone.
But this time, he didn't have the calm demeanor like he had before.
He was burning.
Red Lotus hovered silently, his body engulfed in crimson lotus flames. A cracked Lotus Heart Gu floated in his palm — its surface glowing faintly.
"Fang Yuan," he said calmly. "That Memory Eclipse Gu... was once part of my legacy."
Fang Yuan turned his head, his gaze was cold like ice. He said nothing.
But Red Lotus didn't strike; instead, he spoke softly.
"You've stolen what you desired. But what you cannot steal... is fate."
He paused for a breath.
"That Gu will consume you."
He vanished, leaving only a single crimson petal fluttering down. Fang Yuan caught it mid-air and crushed it with no expression.
"Fate is already dead."
...
Back at the Temporal Vault, Star Constellation's breath grew heavier.
She had stabilized the structure. Sealed many rooms and had killed nearly a thousand clones.
But dozens of ancient Gu were already missing.
Fang Yuan had gained far more than just Derivation Gu.
She stared at him across the battlefield, and this time... her gaze was not cold.
It was murderous.
'He's preparing for something beyond the battle... a grand plan. One that includes us all.'
Fang Yuan looked at Memory Eclipse Gu for the last time and turned towards Star Constellation: "The next move is yours, Lady Star Constellation."
[About Lotus Heart Gu: Lotus Heart Gu is a rank eight time path Gu which showed the effects of fire path and wisdom path. It was the reason as to why his clone could stay alive for a long time and observe each and every battle happening in the world. Usually, wisdom path Gu (note that I'm only taking about the Gu which were specialised for thoughts) worms created thoughts which collided and formed many results. But Lotus Heart Gu "burned" to allow the user to think. It's food was the giant red lotus which Red Lotus' clone had brought the previous chapters. It also burned the giant red lotus to allow Red Lotus' clone to think effectively. This was the reason why the giant red lotus' size has reduced drastically. Why was Lotus Heart Gu cracked? It was cracked due to severe usage; ever since the revival of the three venerables, Red Lotus' clone had been using it without any cost and this resulted in the destruction of the Gu worm. Also note that Red Lotus' clone doesn't have any soul; it couldn't think without Lotus Heart Gu. But what is Memory Eclipse Gu? How can Memory Eclipse Gu be harmful to Fang Yuan? We'll talk about that in the next chapter.]
[ Additional note: I'll release the next chapter in 1-2 days. Most probably on Wednesday.]
