Chapter 36: Chapter 36: Lynnterstellar
It was an average day on the planet Scringusi, home of the snaiple, a race of snail-like aliens. One snaiple, a farmer who was stood behind his fruit stand, was bored as he looked out at the rest of the marketplace, waiting for customers. Eventually, one arrived though this customer was a strange one. She appeared to be an alien that was wearing a tattered, brown, hooded cloak. He also noticed she had an eyepatch over her right eye and the left sleeve of her jersey was completely torn off. "Can I help you?" The farmer asked.
"Yeah, I was wondering, do you sell anything for free?" Lynn asked.
The farmer gave her a confused look. "Uh, no?"
"Is anything on this planet for free?"
"Uh, no. Why would anyone sell stuff for free?"
Lynn sighed. "Figures." She then grabbed a handful of fruit before making a run for it.
"Hey! STOP! THIEF!" The farmer shouted after her.
Lynn chuckled to herself as she ran. She doubted a planet full of snail aliens would ever be able to keep up with her. She glanced behind her, only for her eye to widen as the police were sliding after her at an extremely fast pace. "Oh crap!" Lynn cursed before getting out the portal gun, quickly typing in some random coordinates and firing a portal, managing to escape the snaiple police.
...
Lynn exited the portal to find herself on a more technologically advanced planet with buildings that resembled letters. She then heard an explosion and some screaming. She looked around to see an army of letters made out of various elements going to battle against an army of reptilian aliens that resembled numbers.
The letter leading the charge was a T that appeared to be made of water and wielding two handguns. "Yeah, eat lead motherfucker!" For some, the water T's face and voice reminded her of Ice T, who had gone missing ever since the event with giant heads.
Realising that she had basically landed in the middle of a war zone, Lynn quickly fired another portal, hoping the next location would be safer.
...
Lynn now found her herself in some kind of vast, empty wasteland with dark blue sand and a dark blue sky. She then heard a strange groaning noise. She turned around and gasped upon seeing countless Meeseeks, all lying on the ground, groaning in agony. Upon noticing her, one Meeseeks slowly raised his head and crawled towards her. To Lynn, it looked like moving at all was painful for the Mr. Meeseeks. "Need...wand..." Mr. Meeseeks barely managed to groan.
"W-What?" Lynn stammered nervously."
Mr. Meeseeks tried to grab her leg. "We need...Star Butterfly's...wand..."
Lynn pulled her leg away. "I-I-I don't know what you're talking about!"
Mr. Meeseeks groaned before going back to lying on the ground. Lynn took a step back. She definitely didn't want to stick around here. She fired another portal and quickly left.
...
Lynn now found herself on some kind of moon. She looked around for any potential danger, only to stop and stare in amazement at the giant red planet above her. "Whoa..." This, along with all of the stars in the galaxy, was a rather breathtaking sight for Lynn. Not something she often got to see when she went on adventures with Rick. Realising she was safe, she sat down and took a bite of a purple apple...which tasted like cheese for some reason. Ah well, as long as it was edible. Lynn supposed she should count herself lucky she hadn't eaten anything that poisoned her so far. Though she supposed she had an intuition for this kind of stuff. She wasn't stupid after all. She knew when it was best to get away from a planet or dimension and she knew when the portal gun needed charging. She had also mostly been sticking to charging the portal gun at the more populated locations as she had a feeling Rick might have laid traps at some of them. She then wondered how she was even able to breathe here. Though, now that she thought about it, the portal gun never took her anywhere she couldn't breathe. Maybe it was something Rick built into it.
This was the first time in a while that Lynn had a moment of peace to herself, which gave her an opportunity to think about her current predicament. How long had she been out here exactly? Must have been a few weeks or something, right? She had kind of lost track of time. She frowned as she realised how long it had been since she had seen her family. She really missed Lincoln, Lucy, Leni and all of her other siblings. But as much as she wanted to see them all again, there was nothing she could do. Who knows what could happen because of Rick's bad luck.
Lynn placed a hand over her right eye. She had gotten used to only having one eye but for the first few days, it felt like her eye was still there for some reason. The pain she felt when it was sliced out was the most unbearable pain she had ever felt in her life. She never wanted to experience anything like that again. Though what was her plan then? To go around from planet to planet or dimension to dimension until hopefully, she somehow finds out that Rick had disappeared or died or something? Who knows how long something like that may take.
She started thinking about Lincoln again, remembering how close they once were. She didn't know why but it seemed like nowadays, Lincoln never really wanted to hang out with her any more. She wished he didn't waste his time on those geeky comic book stuff. How was he gonna toughen up and face to world wasting his time on that? She sighed before smiling nostalgically, looking back at some of her memories.
...
"Linky, where are you?" A seven year old Lynn called out. She was searching around the house as she was currently playing a game of hide and seek with Lincoln. She smirked when she heard a faint giggle coming from the bathroom. She quietly crept into the bathroom before suddenly pulling back the shower curtains, causing a five year old Lincoln to let out a surprised yelp. "Found ya!" Lynn said before pulling Lincoln out of the bathtub and engaging in a tickle fight with him, causing him to giggle uncontrollably.
The fun then stopped when both them heard Rita shout from downstairs. "Lynn! Lincoln! Could you both come down here for a moment?" Lynn let Lincoln get up before they both went downstairs and into the living room where Lynn Sr. was sat on the couch next to a pregnant Rita.
"Hey kids." Lynn Sr. greeted enthusiastically. "We just wanted to tell you that it won't be long now until you get two new sisters!"
Rita had a more serious expression on her face. "However, me and your father have decided to change the living arrangements a bit. We've decided that the twins will be having their own room while Lucy will move in with Lynn."
"But we've also decided to turn the closet upstairs into a bedroom for Lincoln. Which means, you won't have to share a bedroom with anyone!" Lynn Sr. smiled, hoping Lincoln would take the news well.
Lincoln frowned before going over to hug Lynn. "But I don't want my own room. I wanna stay with Lynn!"
Rita gave Lincoln a sympathetic look. "Oh honey, trust me. As you get older, you'll definitely prefer having a room to yourself."
Lincoln's lip trembled. "But..."
Lynn gave Lincoln a pat on the back. "Hey, don't sweat it, Linky. Just because we're in different rooms doesn't mean we can't play together any more."
This seemed to alleviate Lincoln's fears as he smiled back at her.
...
"Strong Suit!"
Upon hearing that familiar voice, Lynn snapped back to reality before groaning in annoyance and getting up to face Crocubot, along with Noob-Noob, who was carrying a sniper rifle with him. Somehow, these two had been following her, turning up at the most unexpected places to try and get her to come home. Though neither of them were ever able to capture her. "Seriously, how do you two keep finding me?"
"You cannot escape, Strong Suit. My hunting skills are unmatched. You must return home. Your family misses you. Especially Rick."
Lynn growled in anger upon hearing Rick's name. "Ok, first off, my name is Lynn! Not Strong Suit. Second, I'm not going back until Rick and his bad luck is gone. So do me a favour, go back to Rick and tell him to go die in a ditch!" She then got out the portal gun and fired another portal.
"Lynn. Wait." Crocubot attempted to run after her but he was too late as she went through the portal which then closed behind her.
"God dang, can't we just put a bullet in her leg? It'd make this so much easier." Noob-Noob complained as he walked up to Crocubot.
Crocubot shook his head. "No, sidekick. Rick specifically requested that we bring her back unharmed."
Noob-Noob looked down in disappointment. "God damn..." Upon finding out about what happened to the rest of the Vindicators, Noob-Noob wasn't too upset. They were a bunch of assholes anyway. Though, he didn't exactly appreciate being referred to as Crocubot's sidekick now.
Both of them then noticed a large shadow going across the surface of the moon. Upon looking up, both of their eyes widened as they realised a Galactic Federation ship was above them. "Oh no." Crocubot said.
Some wingless gromflomite soldiers beamed down from the ship, along with their leader, Tammy, carrying a large laser gun. Tammy put on a friendly face as she greeted them. "Well, wasn't expecting to see either of you out here."
"I thought that the Galactic Federation had fallen." Crocubot said.
"We took a bad blow, but we're recovering. We've been slowly building the Galactic Federation back up. Speaking of blows, I heard the Vindicators took a pretty bad one themselves."
"There are no more Vindicators. I work alone now, along with my sidekick." Crocubot explained, earning an annoyed look from Noob-Noob.
Tammy rolled her eyes. "Right. Because when I think of superheroes that can go solo, I think of Crocubot. Listen, I have a deal for you two. I want both of you to join the Galactic Federation."
Crocubot shook his head. "I'm afraid we must decline."
Tammy glared at Crocubot. "Have you forgotten everything the Galactic Federation has done for you? We're the ones who helped fund the Vindicators. We're the ones who helped promote the Vindicators across the galaxy. We're the ones who covered up all of the 'questionable' things the Vindicators have gotten involved with. You owe us."
"The Vindicators are no more. Once again, we must decline."
"You know, this wasn't actually a request." Tammy said as she and the gromflomites prepared their guns.
As the two prepared for battle, Crocubot whispered to Noob-Noob. "Remember, Rick instructed to not let anyone get their hands on the portal gun under any circumstances. If things look dire, you must destroy it."
Noob-Noob nodded. "Got it."
...
Lynn exited the portal into some kind of medieval village. She had an angry look on her face. Rick. Rick. Rick. It was always about Rick wasn't it? She really regretted bringing her friends to that party back in April. Ever since then, it's been the only thing her friends have been talking about. As if sports and any of her accomplishments didn't even matter. And why did Rick bring Lincoln on so many of his adventures? Was he obsessed with him or something? Ever since Lincoln started going on adventures, he never seemed to have any time to hang out with her. What's so great about Rick's geeky adventures anyway. There was no way Lincoln was going to toughen up by hanging out with someone like Rick.
Lynn took a moment to calm down before taking a look at the rather poor looking village. Seeing as the village was populated with humans, Lynn guessed that she was probably in another dimension. Thinking about it, one thing Lynn wasn't able to do with the portal gun was go to an alternate version of Earth. It seemed like the portal gun was currently stuck on her own universe. Though did this mean that all of the dimensions she had been to were technically part of this universe? And if this was the case, how come Rick sometimes referred to alternate universes as dimensions? She shook her head. This was all way too confusing for her.
Lynn decided to look around for a while, earning some curious looks from the villagers as she did so. Eventually, one of the villagers approached her. "Excuse me. By some chance, are you a hero?"
Lynn raised an eyebrow at the villager. "I guess you could call me one." Being number one was like being a hero, right?
"Oh, at last! A hero!" The villager exclaimed. "You must help us! This village is terribly poor, yet the giant that lives in the clouds above has untold treasures!" He gestured to a nearby beanstalk that led up into the clouds.
Considering what she'd been through so far, how hard could this be? Plus, the idea of being praised as a hero sounded pretty appealing. Who knows what kind of reward she might receive for this. She grinned at the villager. "All right, you got it!"
"Go forth, brave hero!" The villager called after her as she made her way to the beanstalk.
...
Lynn wiped the sweat from her forehead. The climb up the beanstalk was more of a challenge than she had expected. Still, she kept going as there was no challenge she couldn't overcome.
Not even Middle School could stop her.
...
A miserable Lynn, wearing a grey hoodie and a pair of jeans, stared out the window as her father drove her to the soccer tryouts. As he drove, he gave her a concerned look every now and then. Ever since starting Middle School, Lynn Jr. had been in a depressive state due to issues with her classmates. Lynn Sr. thought that it might help if she joined a sports team. After all, she had always been good at sports. In a way, Lynn Sr. was responsible for Lynn's interest in sports. He encouraged her to get into it a lot, especially after it was clear that Lincoln had no interest in sports. "Ah, cheer up, L.J.. You love soccer, remember? I know you'll do great. Heck, if you work at it, you could become a star one day."
Lynn perked up at this. The idea of becoming a star did sound nice. It'd definitely stick it to those jerks at school.
...
Lynn was in the locker room, getting ready for the game when one of her teammates approached her. "Hey, I'm Margo." Margo stuck her hand out for Lynn to shake.
"I-I'm Lynn." Lynn apprehensively shook her hand. This is the first time anyone from her school gave her a pleasant greeting.
"You look a little nervous." A determined expression appeared on Margo's face. "Don't worry, we got this."
Lynn raised an eyebrow? "You sure?"
Margo chuckled. "Positive." Lynn couldn't help but admire her confidence. Maybe she should start acting more confident.
...
It was neck and neck between the two teams. One of the opposing team members had the ball and was almost at the goal before Lynn quickly tackled her and dribbled the ball to the other side of the field, managing to swiftly dodge the opposing team members. She made her way towards the goal before quickly taking her shot, managing to score the winning goal just before the game ended, winning it for her team.
As her team cheered for her and lifted her up in the air, Lynn realised that she hadn't been this happy for a long time.
...
Lynn finally made it to the top of the beanstalk which led into the window of the giant's house. She jumped down from the wooden windowsill onto the wooden table before looking around at the giant room. Sure, the place seemed massive and trying to take any treasure from here down to the village might be a bit of a hassle but it was nothing that Lynn Loud couldn't manage. At least, that's what she thought until she heard some giant foot step noises, causing everything around Lynn to start shaking. Realising that whatever was making this sound was about to enter the room, Lynn went to hide behind a nearby cookie jar.
"Fee! Fi! Fo! Fum!" The giant bellowed as he entered the room. Lynn was starting to lose her nerve. Maybe she was in over her head this time. She slowly reached for the portal gun. "I smelled the blood of-whoop!" The giant then slipped up, causing him to fall. As he fell, his head ended up hitting the table corner, cracking it open before he hit the ground.
Lynn stared in shock as the giant bled onto the floor while his body twitched slightly. Lynn then noticed the giant had a wallet sticking out of his pants. Realising that she had a golden opportunity, Lynn climbed down the table leg before going over to pull the wallet out. "C'mon you..." Lynn grunted before pulling the wallet out. She opened it up. Surprisingly, it looked like a normal, modern wallet apart from that it was giant. She picked out a large, golden coin from it, which was probably all she'd be able to carry back down with her. She then started to climb back up the table leg while holding onto the giant coin.
...
Upon returning to the village, Lynn found herself surrounded by villagers, all cheering for her. In front of them was the villager that Lynn had met before. Lynn handed the giant coin over to him. "Thank you, kind madam. Our village is saved! You are a true hero!"
Lynn scoffed. "Heh. It wasn't anything I couldn't handle." She couldn't help but grin at all of the praise being heaped onto her.
"Brave hero, we would like to introduce you to our beloved king so that he may thank you personally." The villager said as he gestured to four villagers who were carrying their king on his throne. Bizarrely enough, their king was a grey jellybean.
Upon reaching Lynn, the villagers put down the king who got up and bowed to Lynn. "Words cannot express how grateful we are for what you've done for our village."
Lynn chuckled, slightly embarrassed. "It was nothing."
King Jellybean grinned as he put an arm around Lynn. She didn't know why but the way he was looking at her made her slightly uncomfortable. "To show our appreciation, I'd like to offer you a night's stay at my castle."
Lynn's eye widened in surprise. "Whoa! Seriously?"
"It's the least we could do."
Considering the types of places she'd been sleeping at, there was no way she was going to pass up the opportunity to stay in a royal castle for the night. "Alright, fine by me!"
...
It didn't take too long to reach the castle. After a short tour of the place, the guards left her alone with King Jellybean as she followed him through the castle halls. King Jellybean eventually led her to a rather cosy looking, candle lit bedroom with a king sized bed with red sheets. She stepped into the room and took a look around. "So, is there where I'm staying?"
"This is my bedroom." King Jellybean explained. "Stay here for a moment. I have something special to show you." He then shut the door, leaving Lynn alone.
Lynn shrugged before going over to sit on the bed to wait for whatever King Jellybean wanted to show her. Though it didn't take long for Lynn to start getting impatient. She really did not like staying still for too long. She needed something to do. Looking around for a moment, she noticed the closet was slightly open. Curious, she went over and opened the closet. There wasn't much interesting in it apart from a small box with a lock on it. This definitely made Lynn curious and luckily for her, she picked up lock picking while on her travels. She got a small pin and picked the lock with little trouble. She opened it up to see a bunch of photos in it.
Upon looking closely at the photos however, she gasped before dropping the box and recoiling in horror. She had made a terrible mistake coming here. She needed to get out of here. NOW. Before she could think clearly, she heard someone opening the door.
Fuck the heels and dress
It's nothing I can do up in a suit, yeah
"I'm back!" King Jellybean announced before Lynn got out a laser gun and shot him, causing him to explode and jelly to go everywhere.
Brown liquor, Henny sipper
Or could flip a deal like you do, yeah
Lynn took a few deep breaths before she started chuckling.
I don't follow no instructions
What was she doing? What was she so afraid of?
I'ma make you do something, yeah
She was Lynn Loud. She was number one. There wasn't anything she couldn't overcome.
There ain't no bitches, ain't no queens
I'm the motherfucking king, yeah
So she had a little accident because of Rick's bad luck. So what? She wasn't going to let it keep her down. She could handle Rick's bad luck.
I am a lion
I am a woman
It's time she stopped running away. She needed to return home.
Nothing can stop me
I do what I wanna
She needed to see her family again. She didn't often think about it but they must have been worried sick about her.
I am, I am, I am, I am
I am, I am, I am, I am, yeah
She also couldn't wait to see her friends again. After hearing about her adventures, maybe they'd start to forget about Rick and remember just how awesome she was.
I am the new breed
She started thinking about how to handle Rick.
But your crown don't fit me
It shouldn't be too hard to get him kicked out right? She just needed to explain to her parents how he's bad luck. And if that doesn't work, all she needed to do was tell them about the kinds of adventures she's been on with Rick. That'll definitely get him kicked out.
I am, I am, I am, I am
I am, I am, I am, I am, yeah
Before she went back though, she wanted to make sure she was prepared for it. She got out the portal gun. It looked like it was pretty low on battery. Just to be safe, she decided to get it fully charged before she'd head back. Considering she was going back, she supposed it didn't matter where she charged it. So she decided to put in the first coordinates that popped up in her head. The charger at Birdperson's home.
I am the new breed
But your crown don't fit me
She fired a portal and stepped into it.
...
It was the middle of the night when Lynn arrived on Bird World outside of Birdperson's abandoned home. Seeing as how no one lived here anymore, Lynn didn't see much of a problem with just barging in as she rammed the door down. It was completely dark inside though she could see a bit of moonlight coming in from the windows. She didn't exactly know where Birdperson kept his charger so she simply started blindly looking around the house until she found something glowing green. Though as she searched through some of the drawers in the living room, she didn't notice that she wasn't alone. "Well, well." Lynn gasped before turning around to see Tammy sat casually on the armchair with her legs crossed. She was surrounded by gromflomite soldiers as well as Crocubot and Noob-Noob who both had blank looks on their faces and strange, black collars around their necks. "I did not expect to see you here."
