Chapter 4: Kevlon

The man stood up, turning to the survivors.

"Everybody okay?" he asked. In their shock, it was hard to get any words out, but one of the soldiers was able to muster a few words.

"I think we lost a few, but the rest of us are okay, sir."

"Please, no 'sir'. Just call me Kevlon," he said in response.

Everyone was baffled by the appearance of a superhero, but they were obviously able to recognize Kevlon. Not only was he a hero, he was a part of the Heroes Council, the executive command of all superheroes worldwide.

Cracking his knuckles, he approached the mole. It went to swing at him, but before it even got the chance, he was already behind it. He lunged at it, propelling his fist as it sparked with energy. One impact was all he needed.

The creature briefly glowed from the force of the impact, before falling to the ground, crushing even more of the concrete floor along with it. Kevlon emerged from the impact, standing triumphantly above the corpse of the mole.

The survivors that were still in hiding emerged, stumbling their way out, bloodied and bashed.

"Thank you, sir," one of them said. "You truly saved the entire shelter." Kevlon rolled his eyes, annoyed.

"What did I already tell you?" he said. "No 'sir'. Anyway, I'm going to call in a local cleanup crew to help you repair the elevators. Otherwise, I don't think you can get back down." He crouched down, and launched himself up, flying out of the hole that he created in his entrance. The once loud room was quiet once more, as the spot where a legendary figure once stood was empty once again. All the surviving soldiers could do was wait for the cleanup crew to arrive.

Meanwhile, after making his exit, Kevlon flew over Vesta, watching the crime-ridden dystopia from above. He went supersonic as he passed the ashy countryside, making his way towards Hero Tower, home of the Heroes Council.

The Heroes Council was founded nearly 20 years ago, nearly 10 years after the start of the New World. Superheroes had already been running rampant across Vandar, so the ten strongest heroes gathered together to form an organization to maintain order throughout the world, known as the Heroes Council. A building, Hero Tower, was constructed for their administrative use. From there, they'd nearly flawlessly managed the globe. Though members of the council were beginning to age, they certainly were not being replaced any time soon.

Finally, Kevlon arrived at Hero Tower, slowing down for a landing on the rooftop helipad. He took the elevator inside, bringing himself down to the level containing his quarters. As a member of the council, he lived quite a luxurious life.

As he was adjusting his room, a knocking came from the door. It was a messenger.

"Mr. Kevlon?" he asked.

"What is it?" Kevlon grunted back.

"The council would like to host a meeting now, and your presence is required."

"Tell them I'll be there soon." He continued to clean his room for another few minutes, until taking the elevator to the council chamber.

He was greeted with the usual crescent shaped table, surrounded by the other council members, all waiting on his arrival.

"About time you showed up," said Fayre, another member of the council, and the one who was hosting this meeting.

"Let's get down to business," she said. "We're here today to discuss one thing: the disappearance of Rokada."
