Chapter 10: Revisiting Verna’s Depths, Nifreya’s Visit to Confront
Although Rona Kanis was in a daze all day long, it didn’t mean there was anything wrong with her body.
The pain from being hit by a pebble on her arm was something she could naturally react to.
After letting out a subconscious cry of pain, Rona Kanis snapped out of her emotions of longing for her husband.
“Who?”
No one answered.
Perhaps it was her imagination?
But the pain in her arm didn’t seem like an illusion.
However, Rona Kanis had long lost the ability to distinguish reality.
Having been immersed in longing and reminiscence for so long, she had lost her most basic sensory judgment.
“Dobaru, is that you?”
Dobaru Kanis was none other than the name of Baron Kanis.
“Dobaru?”
She called her beloved’s name again, but the only response was the sound of the night wind.
And…Some kind of ** sizzling water sound.
Slurp—Sip—Woo woo woo.
It was as if the wind was wailing.
Rona Kanis looked toward her daughter’s room, uncertain and afraid, and said, “Verna, is that you?”
In the darkness, Sophia lifted her hold on Verna’s vocal channel and whispered, “You know what to do.”
Verna glared with angry yet powerless beautiful eyes.
Her hand, which wanted to draw the dagger at her waist to stab the other party, was firmly restrained.
What was most hateful was that, before this damned thief arrived, she had imagined countless scenarios to put her to death.
Even if it meant perishing together, she had wanted to protect her second chance at purity, yet she felt that damned sensation.
Her body seemed to soften and heat up beyond her conscious control.
Verna felt humiliated, enraged, and ashamed, yet she had no choice but to submit under the other’s force.
“Bastard! Shameless! Even if I die, I’ll kill you!”
As silver threads fell from the corner of her mouth, Verna trembled desperately.
“Verna? Are you there?” Rona Kanis’s voice sounded again.
The baron’s mansion had no servants, and no lamps were lit at night.
In the darkness, the baroness’s tone already carried fear.
Ultimately unwilling to see her mother endure more pain and fear, Verna suppressed the urge to stab the female thief who was tightly holding and tormenting her, using a loud voice to mask her body’s arousal.
“It’s, it’s me, Mother. It’s so late… ugh… why aren’t you… ah… asleep?”
Hearing her daughter’s voice from the nearby darkness, Rona Kanis let out a sigh of relief. “I… I couldn’t sleep. Verna, are you the same?”
“Mhm.”
“Your voice sounds a bit strange??” Rona Kanis finally sensed something was wrong.
In a panic, Verna tried to push Sophia away but was held even tighter.
Even her defenses were stripped away.
“I… I just have a slight cold… ah… Mother, it’s nothing.”
The words were practically squeezed through her teeth.
Verna feared that if she let go, she would expose herself.
She wished she could strangle Sophia, who was wreaking havoc on her body, and tear her to pieces.
But the other seemed to have some kind of magic; wherever she touched, Verna’s body went soft and powerless.
“A cold? Let me see…” As if recalling her duty as a mother, Rona Kanis stood up with concern, intending to check on Verna.
Verna’s heart tightened instantly, and her senses amplified tenfold.
Fine beads of sweat fell with her trembling.
She hurriedly stopped her, “No… no need! I, I’m fine… Mother, I’m going to sleep… let’s talk tomorrow.”
“Really, Verna? I… I don’t want to lose you too. Your father, he’s already…” Rona Kanis said with a tearful tone, “Let me see you…”
At that moment, the baroness seemed more like a helpless little girl who had lost her support, stirring Sophia’s emotions.
A crazy idea sprouted in her mind.
She whispered something in Verna’s ear, scaring the girl into a pale-faced plea, “No, don’t… don’t hurt my mother.”
Sophia smiled wickedly, “That depends on your performance.”
“You devil! Scum! You’ll die a horrible death!” Verna cried bitterly, tears streaming down, but her resisting body and hands finally went limp.
The tightly gripped dagger fell to the ground.
Then, with a sobbing voice, she loudly stopped her, “Don’t, Mother, don’t come over… I’m fine, just leave me alone, okay!?”
The slightly reproachful and cold tone made Rona Kanis pause.
Recalling how she had neglected the family these days and the pain Verna had endured, Rona Kanis opened her mouth in the darkness but ultimately couldn’t say words of concern.
“I… Mommy understands, Verna. Rest early. Good night.”
“Good night.”
Hugged by Sophia and brought back to the room, Verna lay on the large bed again.
Recalling the events of the previous night, the girl resisted fiercely, only to be betrayed by her body.
Helpless and despairing, tears streamed down her cheeks. “Why? Who are you? Why are you doing this to me?”
Sophia turned back, glancing at the miscellaneous traps in the room by moonlight, and felt a surge of anger.
“Why? No reason. You and your mother are helpless and easy to bully, that’s all.”
Verna hadn’t expected such a shamelessly brazen response.
Her eyes widened in fury, but she was powerless.
Because the other was right.
Without the protection of the baron’s influence, she and her mother could hardly protect themselves.
Those nobles and merchants would at least pretend to be courteous, maintaining a facade.
But this girl before her was utterly shameless!
“What’s there to cry about, Miss Verna? Stop pretending to be some chaste martyr. You’ve already given yourself to me.Do you think you’ll ever want anyone else in this lifetime?”
“And don’t think about ending it.If you leave, I’ll use the same tricks I used on you on the baroness.”
Hearing this, Verna was so furious her lungs felt like they would explode.
She couldn’t fathom how such a person could exist. “You!! Shameless! Scum! You’ll die a horrible death!”
She should be purified by the Holy Light!
But Sophia was unfazed.
The more Verna resisted and defied, the more excited she became.
“Heh, such harsh words.
I wonder how the duplicitous baron’s daughter would evaluate herself?”
“Your body is far more honest than that stubborn mouth of yours.”
Verna’s fingertips turned white from clenching.
Suddenly, she reached under the pillow, pulled out a short blade, and stabbed straight at Sophia’s waist.
If the strike landed, Sophia would likely be done for.
But…As if anticipating it, Sophia simply pressed her body down, dodging Verna’s attack.
At the same time, using a mountain-like pressure, Sophia made Verna cry out in pain, “Ah!!”Immediately, the dagger in her hand was seized and thrown away.
“Does the baron’s daughter like this kind of play? This little thief is happy to indulge you.
The night is still long.”
===
The next day, having further strengthened her Joyful Magic, Sophia returned to the church room to meditate and regulate her breathing.
In the afternoon, the Minglu Merchant Guild suddenly came knocking.
Led by Tina, with twenty Flower Citadel knights, they appeared aggressive.
However, she was still courteous, not barging in but politely waiting outside for the church’s White Knights to relay the message.
But their demeanor still carried a hint of holding someone accountable.
“Saintess, the second young lady of the Noyce family from the Minglu Merchant Guild wishes to see you to discuss matters. Will you meet her?”
The White Knight asked from outside.
Sophia’s heart skipped a beat: No way, does the Minglu Merchant Guild have that much influence? They tracked me down quickly?
Meet or not meet?
There didn’t seem to be much choice.
Sophia said calmly, “Understood. Please invite Miss Noyce to the small auditorium. I’ll be there shortly.”
