Chapter 2: Chapter 2: escape
Superboy stood in front of four pods, his eyes fixated on them. In the background, Dr. Desmond was speaking to a mysterious group of people. Desmond explained what had happened and wondered what to do with the justice leagues little sidekicks.
"Clone them," a hidden figure said. It seemed to be one of the leaders of Cadmus. "Make sure they replace them and are loyal to Cadmus."
"What should I do with the originals?" Dr. Desmond asked. A quiet filled the room. It lasted only a second before the man responded.
"Dispose of them."
Back to Solomon—he woke up with a grunt. He thought he had heard a voice in his head. The crazy dream he had made him wonder if he was losing his mind due to grief. That thought quickly left as he noticed where he was.
The cold metallic cuffs around his hands gave him a sensation no dream could replicate. He looked around and noticed the boys from earlier.
Shit, so it wasn't a dream, he thought as he looked at Superboy.
His enhanced mind raced with thoughts, trying to figure out what to do next. The chaotic energy that had run rampant earlier had subsided, as his mind had been too distracted to grieve. His thoughts were cut short when the boys started talking to the guy who looked like Superman.
When Kaldur told Kid Flash to be quiet, Solomon decided it was time to intervene.
"So, who are you guys?" he asked.
The three turned their heads to look at him. He remained calm, trying to act like he had no idea what was going on. In truth, he didn't—but he was doing his best to mimic a clone with little to no memories.
Kaldur gave him a strange look— he and superbly were the only ones awake when Solomon lost control of his powers
"You attacked us, Kaldur," Kaldur said to Solomon.
Solomon's face fell as he apologized. "I don't know how I did that," he said. "It's not like I had practice."
Wally turned back to Superboy, still mad about what had happened. He hadn't been awake when Solomon attacked them, so he had no real opinion on him.
"You attacked us, even when we tried to free you!" Wally shouted in anger.
"Wally, quiet. I believe our friend was not in full control of his actions," Kaldur reasoned.
"Well, what if I wasn't?" Superboy muttered, his hands shaking, though his face remained unreadable.
During all this, Robin had been working on escaping—being Batman's apprentice had its advantages. Meanwhile, Wally and Kaldur continued trying to convince Superboy to join them.
Before anything could happen, Desmond and Guardian entered, preparing to clone them.
"Don't grow a conscience now. Just go back to your pod," Desmond said arrogantly.
A Genomorph jumped onto Superboy's shoulder, and a blank expression appeared on his face.
Superboy began walking away as Desmond started the cloning process.
"It seems we had a failure," Desmond noted, turning his gaze toward Solomon. "But that's okay. If the Genos can't control you, then there are other, more painful ways to do it." A grin spread across his face.
Solomon's heart pounded as he struggled against the cuffs. They were made to hold Superboy, so they held tightly—but not for long. A scarlet red energy exploded from his body, shattering the restraints.
Not a second later, Superboy broke the metal door, effortlessly taking down Desmond and Guardian. Robin had escaped.
"Batman will have my head for taking this long," Robin muttered in a half-joking tone.
"Seriously, the whole League will be after us because of this!" Wally shouted.
Robin quickly freed Wally, and Superboy helped Kaldur.
"Hurry up!" Solomon shouted, realizing they had no time to waste.
Robin made sure to throw his exploding Batarangs, ensuring they wouldn't be cloned.
Desmond groaned, getting up in a rage. "Geno, wake up every Genomorph in Cadmus. Make sure to catch them!"
The five boys ran, trying to reach the elevator, but soon found themselves surrounded by massive, earth-shaking G-Trolls.
Solomon felt fear creeping in, but before anyone could react, a scarlet force blasted forward at blinding speed, tearing through the G-Trolls.
Wally's mouth fell open. "Hey, I thought you were the same as him," he said, pointing to Superboy.
"I… I don't know," Solomon muttered, looking at his hands in disbelief.
Before Robin could question him, the G-Trolls began to rise again. They had no time to process what happened, so they sprinted through the path Solomon had cleared.
Superboy, however, stayed back to fight. He unleashed his fury on the G-Trolls, effortlessly taking them down.
"Superboy, let's go!" Kaldur shouted.
Superboy hesitated before finally following them. The G-Trolls began catching up. Wally sped ahead, Robin used his grappling hook, and Superboy attempted to fly.
A good attempt though it seemed superboy overestimated himself as he slowly started to fall.
Robin could not react before Solomon took action.
Solomon, watching all this, started to panic. Instinctively, he raised his hand, and a scarlet energy caught both Superboy and Kaldur mid-air.
"Coool…" Solomon whispered, momentarily distracted by his own abilities.
Before he could admire them further, he heard something above him. His super senses had seamlessly adjusted to his surroundings, and now he realized an elevator was descending fast.
Thinking quickly, Solomon focused all his energy on carrying everyone at once. His Kryptonian brain processed the action instantly, but even so, it was difficult—he hadn't absorbed any natural sunlight, which he needed to become stronger.
Everyone looked at Solomon's strained face, surprised by his powers.
"Okay, whose powers did they clone?" Wally asked.
No one had time to answer as they were on the run again. They had no time as the Genomorphs rushed at them.
"Turn left," superboy said.
They had no time to question him as they had no idea where to go.
Superman's voice guided them through different turns until they finally hit a wall. Solomon scanned the area and noticed a vent—Robin had already spotted it, too.
The group crawled through the vent, with Robin having hacked the Genomorph trackers to ensure their escape.
Reaching a staircase, they ran up. Wally sped ahead, taking down any Genomorphs in the way. Superboy destroyed the path behind them to slow their pursuers.
Eventually, they were surrounded. The genomorphd surrounded them from all sides. The group could not do anything before everyone passed out—except for Superboy and Solomon.
The Genos, however, didn't attack. Instead, they pleaded for freedom.
Solomon immediately agreed to help. He did not know whether the genos would attack if he refused, plus he never liked slavery anyways.
Superboy supported to as he new what it was like to not have freedom, and he wanted it too.
The Genomorphs, now hopeful, freed Guardian, and woke up the rest of the group
Before they could form a plan, Desmond suddenly appeared. Solomon's stomach dropped when he saw the serum in Desmond's hand. In every comic, a serum is never good news.
Desmond drank it.
Instantly, he transformed into a raging monster.
Solomon watched in horror as Superboy was no match for Desmond. Superboy was thrown through the ceiling, creating a massive hole that allowed the group to escape.
They scrambled up, barely able to think before Superboy was thrown toward them again.
Solomon, now more in tune with his powers, caught him.
"Raaawrrr!"
Desmond roared, closing the gap between him and Solomon
Solomon reflexively created a scarlet red shield to try to tank the tank. It lasted barely a second as it hit Solomon in the stomach. Solomon might have been seriously injured or worse if not for the shield.
Cadmus had given him little sunlight because they could never control him. The only reason Solomon was so strong was that Kryptonians are naturally stronger than humans due to the gravity on their planet.
Mid air Solomon braced himself with his power to mitigate the damage.
"Over here!" Wally called, running around to distract Blockbuster.
Blockbuster charged in a rage, destroying everything in his path. Superboy tried to help, but just as he was about to be hit with an unavoidable punch, Solomon pulled him out of the way.
Boom!
Solomon turned to see Robin placing Birdarangs on the pillars supporting the ceiling. He immediately figured out what Robin was doing and turned his attention back to Blockbuster.
Blockbuster felt resistance as he tried to move. Noticing the red energy surrounding him, he turned his attention to Solomon. His focus shifted as Solomon charged at him—this time at a slower pace than before.
This gave Superboy an opening to strike. He hit Blockbuster in the head with all his might. It barely bruised him, but it bought Robin enough time to blow up the right pillars. The thick concrete ceiling collapsed onto Blockbuster.
Solomon quickly created a scarlet force field to protect the rest of the group.
As Solomon pushed away the rubble, Solomon felt the moonlight touch his skin. Immediately, he could feel all the damage he had taken healing.
With astonishment, he watched as his bruised stomach, marked by Blockbuster's punch, lost its purple hue.
Distracted, he lifted his head quickly when he heard Robin say the name—
"Superman."
He looked up to see a figure flying slowly toward him. His cape flowing around him as it seemed like light hugged his body.
It was different when you saw him in a book, but in real life his aura felt
