First Examination – Part 1
 
 

"Alright, the examination room is this way."
Led by Ayaka-chan, everyone stepped into the designated room. It looked like a medical examination room, but various unfamiliar devices were cluttered around.
"I'll go call the doctor now."

"Thanks. Appreciate it."
Ayaka-chan headed through the door at the back of the room. As the door opened, they caught a brief glimpse of a space filled with large equipment. While Sera and the others waited, listening to the parents’ small talk, the door reopened. Ayaka-chan returned, accompanied by a woman in a lab coat, her long messy hair and thick glasses nearly covering her eyes.
"Ahh, sorry to keep you waiting! To think I’d leave Akatsuki’s strongest couple waiting—what a disgrace to my name!"

"Please, spare us the flattery, Dr. Ichijou. We’re counting on you today."
The woman, referred to as Dr. Ichijou by Dad, spoke with a strangely casual tone, yet something in her manner hinted at deep intelligence. With a chuckle and a, "You’re too modest~," she turned her attention to Aoi and Sou, crouching to meet their eyes.
"You must be Aoi-kun, and that makes you Sou-kun, right? I’m just a humble researcher—name’s Ichijou. Nice to meet you both!"

"…Nith to meet you."
"…Guu."
Aoi responded shyly but curiously, while Sou wrinkled his nose, apparently reacting to her scent. Ichijou seemed to notice too, laughing awkwardly as she scratched her head.
"Sorry, Sou-kun. I just wrapped up another experiment—no time for a bath!"

"Sorry to bother you when you're already so busy."
"Well, I kinda hate bathing anyway, haha!"
At that, both parents let out awkward chuckles, half-exasperated. Ayaka-chan, on the other hand, let out a deep, heavy sigh.

"I understand being busy, but at least bathe once every three days, please! I keep getting stuck with teleporting you just so others can force you into a bath!"
"Haha! Sorry for the trouble~!"
"You're definitely not sorry, are you…?"
Ichijou ignored the skeptical Ayaka-chan and turned her attention back to Aoi and Sou.

"Now then, let’s get started with Sou-kun’s examination! Aoi-kun, your turn comes after, so let’s keep things moving!"
"We’re in your hands."
"Please take care of them."
"I’ll explain everything as we go~."

With that, Ichijou opened the back door again and led them further in. As they followed, the hallway revealed various devices—some familiar from Sera’s previous life, some completely alien. As they walked, Ichijou explained while glancing occasionally at Aoi and Sou.
"Today’s exam? Simply put, we’ll be checking what kind of powers Aoi-kun and Sou-kun possess."
She talked while casually tossing stray objects into shelves like she was shooting hoops—each one landing perfectly.

"To break it down: First, we’ll measure the general size of your powers. Then, we’ll analyze the type, structure, and stability of your ability circuits."
Eventually, Ichijou stopped in front of a particular device and started setting it up—plugging something in, tapping rapidly on a terminal—all while continuing her explanation.
"So what can we learn from this, you ask? It gives us a rough estimate of a person’s power output, stability, and growth potential."

"You two have had this done several times already, but it’s my policy to always explain what I’m doing to the subject themselves."
With the setup complete, she turned back toward Aoi and Sou with a bright smile.

She then pulled several corded sensors from the box she’d grabbed along the way.
"It’s totally safe! Nothing to worry about!"
The sudden hint of sketchiness in her tone made both parents chuckle nervously before giving a polite bow.

"Dr. Ichijou, please take care of them."
"Leave it to me! Not to brag, but when it comes to ability research, no one in Akatsuki can beat me!"
She proudly puffed out her chest, then added with a grin,

"—Well, within Akatsuki, anyway."
