vol. 5 chapter 16 - How to use the power of Seraphim-1
How to use the power of Seraphim-1
The words Seras said—about training me to use her powers.
When she says “her powers,” though... the ones I know include her ability to manipulate objects, create explosions, and conjure weapons or constructs. She’s used quite a variety.
“...Your powers, Seras?”
“Ah, yeah. But I don’t mean it like teaching you a new supernatural ability or something.”
“Huh? You don’t?”
I had been hoping to finally understand what her mysterious powers actually were, so that was a little disappointing.
“Rather than giving you my abilities, I want you to learn how I use power.”
“How you use it...? But I can already use my own ability normally. Isn't that what you mean?”
I thought this would be one of those “since I’m inside you, you can now use my powers too” things… but apparently not.
“See, unlike you, Aoi, I’m not using an 'ability' in the same sense.”
“Wait… you’re not?”
Then everything she’s done up to now—strengthening her body, creating that scythe, and the dreamworld powers—they weren’t supernatural abilities?
“Do you know how people even use their supernatural abilities in the first place?”
“Uhh…”
I think Ms. Ichijou-sensei explained that once. If I remember correctly…
[Flashback to Ichijou-sensei’s Class]
“Aoi-kun, do you know how supernatural abilities get activated?”
“You mean the mechanism of how they work?”
Things like my master's Chains, my Overdrive: Overspec, or Mom’s Barrier Master come to mind…
“Well, let’s see…”
Now that I think about it, I’ve never really given much thought to how they work.
“Ah, your ability makes that a bit trickier to notice, huh?”
If even mine’s hard to grasp, then… ah, maybe this is what she means.
“So we use our own inner ability to manipulate something that already exists?”
“Exactly! Abilities activate when you use your own power to interfere with supernatural forces that naturally exist around you.”
“Natural supernatural forces?”
“That’s right. For example, your Overdrive lets you go beyond your physical limit because you’re borrowing power from the naturally existing field of supernatural force.”
“I see… so my master’s Chains or my mom’s Barrier Master are also the same?”
“Even abilities that create things artificially work on the same principle. They reshape natural supernatural force using one’s inner power.”
“So the result might differ, but the mechanism’s the same?”
“Exactly!”
“So basically, we use our internal power to reach out and affect the natural supernatural energy… right?”
I repeated what I remembered to answer Seras’s question.
She smiled and nodded affirmatively.
“Simply put, it’s like you’re extending invisible hands from within yourself—shaping, pushing, and pulling at the surrounding supernatural energy to produce your ability.”
That’s… kind of gross, but it makes sense.
Still, how is this related to how Seras uses power?
Almost as if she read my confusion, Seras continued.
“So then, why is there such a big difference between what you and I can do—even though we share a body?”
“...?”
Isn’t that just because we have different abilities?
When I was using Seras’s body, my power and physical ability were totally different—so it seemed natural to me.
But if she’s bringing this up specifically… then maybe there’s something else going on.
And honestly, I don’t really get how she even exists inside me in the first place, or how we’re swapping bodies at all.
It’s all way over my head.
“It’s totally fine that you don’t understand.
The truth is—I don’t use supernatural abilities at all.”
“You don’t use them...? But…”
When I was in her body, I could feel a massive amount of supernatural power swirling inside it—more than usual.
And what about the scythe ⊛ Nоvеlιght ⊛ (Read the full story) she made to defeat Kyuuso, or her teleportation? Weren’t those abilities?
She seemed to pick up on my confusion and gave a little wry smile.
“Well, explaining it would take forever and probably just confuse you more.
So how about we let you experience it a little instead?”
“Uh… okay? I guess?”
…What is she about to do to me?
