Chapter 253: Chapter 254: Rangiku’s Growth
The orange-haired figure slowly stood up from the ground, brushing a hand through her flowing hair, which fell alluringly across her chest before being swept back behind her.
Under the gaze of numerous onlookers, she arched her back without a hint of shyness, fully displaying a figure that her graduation robes could scarcely conceal. The pale skin and deep, shadowy contours revealed in the process left several male graduates, in the throes of their youth, swallowing nervously.
"Isn't… isn't that the stunning Rangiku Matsumoto?"
"She… she's absolutely breathtaking!"
"Damn it! This is a graduation ceremony! Even if it's Rangiku Matsumoto, isn't this just… too much? Ugh… What am I even saying? So envious…"
Amid the murmurs of the crowd, a feigned look of surprise appeared on Rangiku's face as she cried out.
"Oh my? Someone fell! He even seems to have fainted! Are you still alive?"
The graduates were at a loss.
How the towering graduate ended up on the ground was something Rangiku herself couldn't be unaware of, right?
It was obvious—he had been taken down by Rangiku in an instant!
"Is there anyone here who knows healing techniques? Quickly, someone treat him!" she asked politely while crouching down. Her hands began to glow faintly green as if she were preparing to heal the fallen graduate.
However…
Wait, hold on! This isn't right!
Was this really Kaido? Or was this… murder disguised as healing?
But at this angle… it was so dazzling, so blindingly white!
For a moment, as though their minds were entranced, none of the graduates with knowledge of healing spoke up to stop Rangiku. They simply watched as she "treated" the fallen graduate.
At that moment, a gentle voice, tinged with reproach, rang out from behind Rangiku.
"Rangiku, are you causing trouble again?"
Rangiku turned her head and saw none other than Makoto.
She immediately straightened up, her upper body unconsciously leaning forward slightly in excitement as she exclaimed with joy, "Makoto-kun! I'm so happy you actually came to Shuhei's and my graduation ceremony!"
Makoto's gaze subtly shifted upward, avoiding direct eye contact with the abyss before him. A hint of helplessness flickered across his face.
Rangiku's "growth" was truly unparalleled in the history of the Soul Society.
As a young girl, she had been… let's say, modest.
However, as she matured, her development reached a level that stunned the entire Women's Shinigami Association.
Even more absurdly, despite Makoto having played no role in her physical development, rumors began circulating within the association:
"Doctor Senju massage techniques have reached legendary levels. Rangiku's stunning transformation is entirely thanks to his handiwork…"
This ludicrous rumor was so detailed, it even specified the frequency of "development-enhancing massages" Makoto supposedly provided for Rangiku.
Before long, Makoto gained a whispered title: "The Savior of Women Across the Soul Society."
Meanwhile, Rangiku's increasingly flamboyant figure led to significant changes in her personality. She delighted in teasing Makoto, offering him "special perks" at every opportunity, with a frequency too numerous to count.
"Rangiku, you should be more mindful in settings like this," Makoto said sternly.
"Hm? Mindful of what, Makoto-kun?" she asked innocently.
Makoto nearly choked but managed to change the subject, glancing at the unconscious graduate on the ground.
"Attacking a classmate is against the rules."
"Makoto-kun, you're misunderstanding me! I swear, I only saw this senior faint for no reason and tried to catch him, then heal him," Rangiku replied with a completely innocent expression.
Makoto.
That acting… where did she even learn it?
Her pitiful yet innocent demeanor almost made it believable.
Makoto turned to Aoki Risa, who stood nearby, and said, "Take this graduate to the Fourth Division for treatment immediately. And…"
He paused for a moment before adding, "Make sure to use the best medicine and care. Ensure he recovers quickly."
"Yes, Makoto-kun," Risa replied.
Although she obediently carried out his orders, Risa mentally prepared the unconscious graduate for what she called a "medical loan."
While Fourth Division's duty was to heal and save lives, and Makoto's compassion ensured the best care even for someone who had badmouthed him, none of this prevented Risa from imposing appropriate fees.
Once Makoto resolved the minor incident involving Rangiku, he nodded towards Hisagi Shuhei, who stood in the crowd watching him with bright, admiring eyes. Makoto then proceeded to the special seating area prepared by the Shin'o Academy.
The ceremony began with its usual speeches—ones Makoto had heard countless times before.
The leaders of the academy, in their monotonous tones, repeated their familiar rhetoric: the graduates were the future of the Soul Society, the fresh blood of the Gotei 13, and the pillars of stability for the spiritual world.
The future… belonged to them.
Makoto almost dozed off.
Had it not been for Rangiku's and Shuhei's early graduation, he wouldn't have bothered attending yet another repetitive ceremony.
The academy's view of its graduates wasn't entirely without reason, though. To the Soul Society, most graduates were little more than mass-produced foundations or expendable resources to maintain stability.
Despite fifty years without any high-intensity battles, the endless conflict between Shinigami and Hollows persisted. Recently, the emergence of mutant Hollows had only increased casualties among the lower ranks of the Gotei 13.
Under Makoto's guidance, the Fourth Division recruited a considerable number of new members with the promise of far superior benefits compared to other squads.
Rangiku, after much hesitation, chose to join the Tenth Division at Shiba Isshin's personal invitation, recalling a past debt to a certain Shinigami from the district of Rukongai.
As for Shuhei, who Makoto viewed more as a subordinate, he followed Makoto's discreet suggestion and joined the Ninth Division without drawing attention.
