Chapter 12: First Episode
"Hurry up! The first episode's about to start!" Jennifer, the polar bear, bounced on the couch, her eyes glued to the TV. She was practically vibrating with excitement.
"Wait! The popcorn's almost done!" Precious, the husky, called from the kitchen. "Just turn the channel on first!"
"I can't believe this is happening!" Kennah, the red panda, screeched, her tail flicking with glee. "We've been waiting forever for this! Rising Star is finally back!"
Porsha Crystal, reclining on the armchair with her phone in hand, rolled her eyes. She was the only one not losing her mind. "Why are you all acting like it's the event of the century? It's just another season of over-produced, auto-tuned performances."
The room fell silent.
Even Precious popped her head out of the kitchen, eyes narrowed. "Take that back."
"Right now," Kennah added, scandalized.
Jennifer clutched her chest dramatically. "How dare you disrespect the greatest show of all time?"
Porsha shrugged. "It was great—until season three. After that, it got predictable and rigged."
"It's not rigged anymore!" Precious huffed, walking in with the popcorn bowl. "They changed everything—new rules, new format."
"And new judges!" Jennifer beamed. "Kitty's joining this year!"
"Kitty Purry?" Porsha sat up a little. "The pop star?"
"Yes!" Kennah grinned. "And there are tons of cute guys this season too. You're gonna love it!"
Porsha sighed heavily, already sensing she was going to be dragged along for the ride. "Fine. Let's just get this over with." She reached for the popcorn.
"Thirty seconds left!" Kennah shrieked.
The TV flickered, and the show's logo flashed across the screen. The room erupted in cheers.
The smooth voice of Kielben, the show's charismatic host, echoed through the speakers:
"Welcome back to the most electrifying singing competition on television—Rising Star! After three incredible seasons and three unforgettable champions, we're back to find the next voice that will take the world by storm!"
The camera cut to the judges making their grand entrance, and the girls lost it again.
"Kitty's here!" Precious squealed.
"And Anos!" Jennifer fanned herself. "This season's gonna be fire!"
The auditions kicked off with a bang.
The first contestant, a fox with a soulful voice, delivered a heart-wrenching ballad.
"She's amazing!" Kennah whispered.
"Ten out of ten!" Precious agreed.
Next came a wolf with a red horn, rapping with lightning speed, followed by a panther rocking out on stage.
"I'm already a CJ fan!" Precious declared. "He's my new fave!"
"Rocky's not bad either," Kennah said thoughtfully.
But then the quality dipped. A few off-key singers and awkward performances followed, and Porsha found herself sinking further into the couch.
"Okay, that was painful," she muttered after a particularly bad audition.
"Don't be mean!" Jennifer scolded. "They're trying their best!"
"Trying and succeeding are two different things."
The show shifted into its "funny auditions" segment, and the room exploded with laughter.
A bunny in a full-body costume sang Baa Baa Black Sheep while attempting an absolutely disastrous dance routine. Even Porsha couldn't help but giggle.
"This is why I watch this show," Kennah wheezed, wiping tears from her eyes.
But just as the laughter died down.
The screen shifted—and the room fell silent.
A young Tiger walked onto the stage, a guitar slung across his back. His presence was calm, almost understated—but there was something about him.
"Whoa," Jennifer whispered.
The judges perked up immediately.
Dexter let out a chuckle. "Good lord, you're a dreamboat."
He blinked. "Uh—what?"
"Yeah, I gotta agree. My eyes just lit up," Kitty said, resting her chin on her hands. "What's your name, dreamboat?"
He cleared his throat. "My name is Prince Jefferson. I'm 22 years old, and I'm from Thousand Oaks, Calatonia."
"What's your story? Do you work?" Kitty asked, twirling a lock of her hair between her fingers.
"I'm actually working as a waiter. It's not my dream job, but it helps me support myself. Especially since—" Prince hesitated for a moment, then continued, "I'm an orphan, so I needed to work hard to reach my goal of becoming a full-time musician—"
Before he could finish, Kitty cut in, dramatically sighing. "And you're hot."
The girls watching at home screamed.
"WHAT?!" Kennah shrieked.
"Did she just—?" Precious's jaw dropped.
"She's flirting with him?!" Jennifer's eyes were wide.
Even Porsha sat up straighter, staring at the screen in disbelief. "Okay, now this is getting interesting."
Kitty kept going. "Are you engaged?"
Prince blinked. "No?"
"Cool," she said with a satisfied nod.
The entire living room exploded.
"I can't believe this!" Kennah flailed.
"I'm living for this drama!" Jennifer gasped.
"Kitty has taste," Porsha muttered, her eyes still glued to the screen.
But then—he started singing.
And everything stopped.
"Oh, I'm obsessed"
"With the way your head is layin' on my chest"
"How you love the things I hate about myself"
"That no one knows, but with you, I see hope again"
The softness in his voice sent chills down their spines. The emotion was raw, real—and the lyrics were beautiful.
"He's incredible," Precious whispered, eyes wide.
As the song continued, his voice soared—and the judges took notice. Anos face was serious but impressed. Kitty was next, her smirk softening into something more genuine.
"The song is awesome!" Jennifer shrieked.
"It is!" Kennah wiped a tear from her eye.
Even Porsha was stunned. "Is this song really his original?"
When the song ended, the audience in the studio erupted—and so did the girls at home.
"Okay," Porsha admitted, sitting up straighter. "This season just got interesting."
