Chapter 137: Chapter 137: "Dragon Postpartum Care"?
"Dragonborn! Where are we going?"
"Northwest, there's an archipelago there."
"Is there meat there?"
"Yes, there are many enemies there, you can eat as much as you want!"
Wright had only traveled to the Stepstones by ship. In the sky, shouldn't it be a straight flight? But once they were in the sky, he was at a loss, seeing only the endless sea.
Odahviing would twist and turn as he flew, making turns in the air. When he saw large fish swimming on the surface of the sea, he would swoop down and try to grab them with his claws, succeeding eight or nine times out of ten.
After catching a fish, Odahviing would perform a cobra maneuver, standing upright in the air and throwing the fish into his mouth, then returning to level flight.
"Hold on tight, don't fall!"
As the dragon's body stood upright, the three on his neck lost their footing and grabbed his horns tightly.
Odahviing, with a fish in his mouth, spat out a few sparks of dragonfire and ate it with a crunch.
Sparks of dragonfire drifted from the dragon's head to its tail, making the dragon look extremely imposing.
"Odahviing! Will you die if you eat one less fish! Level flight! Level flight!"
He was imposing, but the sparks scorched the three people behind him. Fortunately, Wright used a magic shield to block them.
"I am a born hunter!"
ROAR~~~~~~
With a dragon's roar and the screams of Nymeria and Tyene, Odahviing flapped his wings and accelerated, climbing almost vertically into the sky.
Odahviing was very excited to be flying in this new world. Wright regretted teaching him these moves. This journey was torturous for the three of them.
"Wright, are we going in the right direction?" Nymeria asked.
"Yeh!" Tyene pointed at the sea.
Wright: "Absolutely not! Odahviing has never been to the Stepstones, he doesn't know the way at all."
Tyene: "I've been watching the position of the sun! Odahviing has been flying northwest."
"How about we bet a gold dragon, he must have made a big circle." Wright had forgotten about this, but he couldn't admit defeat in front of his wives.
Nymeria looked at Tyene in her arms and whispered something in her ear.
"We won't bet gold dragons, we'll bet two bottles of Might. If you lose, you have to drink them all."
"Deal!"
Wright agreed without hesitation. A weak current transmitted from his feet to the dragon's neck, and Odahviing began to turn right.
Odahviing flew northwest along the coastline. This place was desolate, with only the endless sea and coastline. They couldn't find any landmarks. This world was too huge, and Wright didn't know when they would arrive.
"Dragonborn! What are you doing!" Odahviing felt a chill on his neck.
"Helping you cool down, keep flying."
Wright conjured three ice chairs behind his neck. The bases of the chairs expanded outward, wedged into many of the scale gaps and thorns, firmly fixed to his neck.
The two women felt much better after sitting down. Tyene was in front, Nymeria in the middle, and Wright sat in the last empty seat, afraid that something might happen to the two women. Now it felt like riding a roller coaster.
Odahviing's body was very hot. The ice came into contact with his scales, creating a large amount of white steam. Wright had to continuously output magic, but he wasn't worried at all, he had plenty of magic power.
Wright sat on the ice chair, looking up at the sky, where a red comet with a long tail was visible.
Wright wondered if the comet's early arrival was due to Odahviing. Five thousand years ago, Odahviing and Durnehviir were summoned by his old friend, opening the world channel and injecting powerful magicka into this world. Now he had summoned another dragon.
That proved that the comet was a result, not the origin. It was just a representation of the amount of magicka in this world.
Ignoring the comet, he opened the long-unseen game attribute panel:

Three years of travel had brought his magic skills to maximum level, but reaching maximum level also meant that his strength would no longer increase as rapidly as before. His strength would basically remain at this stage.
Wright had researched many methods, but he couldn't inject dragon souls to make his skills reach the legendary level. In the future, there were only two ways to improve his strength: one was through equipment, and the other was to research deeper magic himself.
His strange colleague was able to develop his own system based on this magic system. Wright believed he could too.
Also, the dragon shout to summon Odahviing, apart from the first time when its use caused a spectacular change in the weather, when Wright used it again, it was only through the magical connection with the dragon, allowing him to call it remotely. There were no other changes.
Odahviing could hear the call no matter how far away he was, but how quickly he arrived depended on his mood. Once, Wright forgot to tell Volantis about the elephant he promised him. As a result, this guy was clearly sleeping on a distant mountain peak. When Wright called him, he only turned his head to look at Wright. Finding that Wright was still alive and kicking at the foot of the mountain, he continued to lie down and sleep.
Wright untied the chain on his waist, which was tied to an unfinished book. The ice chair expanded, firmly fixing the book. Wright took out his pen and continued writing.
Tyene, noticing the silence behind her, got up and turned around to see Wright actually sitting on the dragon's back writing a book!
"You really can't find anything to do? Still writing your 'Dragon Postpartum Care'?"
"Hahaha." Nymeria heard this and patted Tyene's back hard.
Wright raised his head: "I told you to learn High Valyrian properly, you're making a fool of yourself because you can't even recognize all the words. The full name of this book is: 'The House Baratheon's Guide to Dragon Breeding and Riding'."
Nymeria reached out: "Let me see!"
Wright handed her the book. Nymeria touched the book. The white steel cover was very heavy, and the title was written in claw-like dragon language on the cover.
The cover also had magic runes engraved on it, with faint golden light flickering within. Nymeria knew how much Wright valued this book. If Wright wasn't suppressing the magic on the book, the cover would erupt with violent flames to prevent it from being stolen or opened.
The paper was made of the finest vellum, and Wright had also engraved an Alteration magic circle on it. Without dispelling the circle, the pages of the entire book would be connected and impossible to turn.
Nymeria opened the first page, which was a beautiful color illustration drawn by Wright, depicting the red and white dragon standing on a mountaintop.
Below was a brief introduction to Odahviing.
"Thick-skinned!" Nymeria commented.
The second page was Wright's own illustration, a black-haired warrior standing in front of the dragon, with lightning flowing around him, heroic and extraordinary, his face explosively handsome.
Below the picture was Wright's name, with only the word "Author" instead of an introduction.
Wright remained expressionless: "Please do not doubt the professionalism of someone who has forged six academic rings and been awarded the title of Honorary Archmaester by the Citadel!"
After the third page, it was all about the dragon's information. Nymeria read it out in broken High Valyrian:
"Dragons have sharp teeth and claws, leathery wings, slender necks and tails, and many thorns along their backs. The only weakness of dragons is their eyes. The scales on a dragon's belly are as thick as those on its back. Any attempt to cut open a dragon's throat or kill it through the esophagus is futile. Doing so is like a 'dragonslayer' trying to put out a fire with a spear."
Tyene, hearing this, asked: "Are there really such dragonslayers?"
Wright: "You'd be surprised. Almost two hundred years ago, during the Targaryen family's internal strife, the dragons they kept in the Dragonpit were killed by mobs. These mobs killed dragons with hoes and sticks! But the Targaryen family's method of raising dragons was wrong, turning fierce beasts that should roam the skies into caged dogs!"
Nymeria continued to read:
"The flying height of a dragon depends on its size. Their wings are a membrane, not feathers. The advantage is that they have good elasticity and extensibility, effectively balancing air resistance and making flying more efficient. The disadvantage is their fragility, but dragons solve this problem through high regeneration, and they are almost scarless. Odahviing's wings aren't as fragile as you wrote, are they?"
Wright: "The fragility here is relative to other dragons. Don't compare it to humans. When you can tear a ship's canvas with your hands, then think about this, continue."
Nymeria: "Dragon bones are as hard as iron, extremely light, and very tough. They are a very high-grade material, but the temperature is too high, and putting them in water can boil the water. Bows made of dragon bones are regarded as rare treasures, but once discovered by a dragon, they will mostly be hunted down by the dragon. Is this really the case?"
Wright: "You can imagine using human bones to make equipment. In Westeros, it would be considered heresy."
Nymeria: "After a dragon dies, due to the high iron content in its body, the organic matter in the dragon bones decomposes and turns black. Although dragons store a large amount of iron in their bones, the large amount of iron in their bodies can cause metabolic acidosis, affecting the liver and kidneys and eventually leading to death. To deal with excess iron, dragons have cultivated sulfate-reducing bacteria in their anaerobic stomach environment as intestinal bacteria.... What is this you wrote? I don't understand it at all!"
Wright held his head in his hands: "Now you know the level of an Archmaester!"
Nymeria glanced at Wright and continued reading without responding: "Excess iron is discharged into the stomach, where bacteria convert it into explosive substances. Sulfate-reducing bacteria can use organic matter on the metal surface as a carbon source and use the hydrogen produced in the bacterial biofilm to reduce sulfate to hydrogen sulfide.
Hydrogen sulfide is a flammable gas that smells like rotten eggs. Mixed with air, it can form an explosive mixture that can cause combustion and explosion when exposed to fire and high temperatures. What is this, I don't understand at all!"
Wright: "Hehe, keep reading!"
Nymeria: "When hydrogen sulfide comes into contact with iron, it produces iron sulfide. At room temperature, powdered iron sulfide will spontaneously ignite in the air. It is a very dangerous substance. The ignition point of ferrous sulfide is very low, usually around fifty degrees Celsius. The dragon's oral temperature is higher than 100 degrees Celsius. When breathing fire, the dragon expels the gas in its air sacs and the contents of its stomach, mixing with oxygen in the air to produce an energy reaction, and then combustion and explosion occur. Is this why dragons can breathe fire?"
Wright: "Dragons are composed of half biology and half magic. Breathing fire is their biological instinct. They can also use magic to spray ice and lightning."
"Dragons eat rocks and minerals to replenish iron. Different minerals in the rocks give different colors to the dragon's scales. Dragonfire becomes hotter and more violent as the dragon ages, usually above two thousand degrees Celsius, enough to melt steel and stone. I won't read anymore, I don't understand it at all." Nymeria wanted to return the book to Wright.
Wright: "Turn to page ten. From here, it's about raising and riding dragons. It should be more interesting."
Nymeria: "Dragon riders must be people related to Wright Baratheon by blood. A magical connection will be established between the dragon and its rider. The dragon can sense the danger and death of its rider, and the rider can also call the distant dragon through dragon shouts. No wonder Tyene and I are so close to Odahviing, but he ignores us."
Wright: "In the future, our children will definitely be able to become dragon riders!"
Tyene interjected again: "You don't have that many dragons. Wait, will Odahviing lay dragon eggs?"
A low dragon roar came from below their feet.
Wright: "Lower your voice. Regarding him laying dragon eggs, every time I ask him, he doesn't pay much attention to me. It's a secret of their dragons!"
Nymeria: "The book ends here. What are you going to write next?"
Wright thought: "I will write about how dragon eggs hatch, how to raise them from a young age, and leave a reminder that they must never be raised in cages! And the most important point, teach the dragon to read from a young age!"
"Read? High Valyrian?" Nymeria asked.
"After Odahviing arrived in this world, his ability to pass on knowledge to his descendants has weakened. His descendants can only learn through acquired learning, just like humans. They can grow up without knowing how to read, but after growing up, the only things they can do is hunt. The Targaryen family's dragons are like this, discarding the dragon's knowledge and only treating the dragons as fierce beasts and tools of war."
That was because the Dragon God was not in this world, but Wright couldn't write this in the book, it would scare many people.
Tyene whispered: "Can Odahviing do it alone? How many eggs can he lay at once?"
Wright: "This is the special nature of magical creatures. He can reproduce an entire race by himself, usually laying five dragon eggs at a time. His descendants will have various appearances, they won't all be the same red and white as him. There may be blue, gold, white ones. The thorns on their backs, the horns on their heads, their tails, their wings, there will be various forms, but they are all dragons."
