Chapter 184: Obito's Death! Sasuke's Revenge!
"This is… Kamui?!"
Under the masked Obito's gaze, his eyes widened in shock, completely unable to accept what he was seeing.
When did Kamui become so commonplace?
First, the Hyūga clan's heiress awakened her own personal dōjutsu—which turned out to be the same Kamui as his.
And now, Uchiha Itachi's younger brother has also awakened Kamui. Obito simply couldn't accept it.
But very quickly, Obito sensed something else and his expression changed drastically: "No, this isn't actual Kamui!"
A terrifying gravitational force leaked out from that tiny black hole, prompting Obito to instantly invoke Kamui's intangibility and pull away to gain distance.
Meanwhile, Madara's body tilted slightly forward. He immediately jumped back to avoid it, eyes fixed on the rapidly expanding black hole. He muttered to himself, "What an impressive gravitational pull—and it's apparently an auto-targeting technique. Quite a formidable eye!"
Although a powerful gravitational force was surging out, it didn't tear up the ground, and it left Madara—who was closest to it—untouched.
Madara could see at a glance the effect of this Mangekyō jutsu.
In the end, that black hole, which had expanded to a degree, failed to ensnare Obito and Madara. It contracted again and flew back to Sasuke's side.
Looking at the pair of small black holes hovering near him, Sasuke quickly realized their function. Immediately he grasped his new technique's abilities.
His face twisted with rage as he glared at Obito, teeth clenched. "Izayoi, hold off Uchiha Madara for me. I'm killing that guy!"
"Sure. If you need help, say the word," Izayoi answered with a nod. However, he was inwardly quite astonished, staring at the pair of small black holes flanking Sasuke.
Not only was there an auto-targeting gravitational force, but also a space-time power. Scientifically speaking, in this not-so-scientific ninja world, it ironically made sense.
Gravity is a manifestation of spacetime curvature. And yet neither Obito nor Hinta—who use Kamui—display such gravitational abilities.
In contrast, Sasuke's black holes truly exhibit warped spacetime. They can generate fierce gravity that he can direct at will. Without a doubt, "Kamui is the strongest Mangekyō Sharingan" might be losing its throne.
Wasting no time, Sasuke directed one of the miniature black holes at Obito.
It shot forth like a thrown shuriken, traveling at high speed, warping space-time all around it.
Seeing the black hole coming, the intangible Obito felt a sudden, dire sense of danger.
Even though he was already in his "invulnerable" Kamui state, he still sensed intense risk emanating from that black hole.
Trusting his instincts, Obito didn't hesitate. He triggered Kamui, vanishing completely into the Kamui dimension.
When the black hole reached Obito's position, only faint space-time ripples remained.
Sasuke gave a vicious grin as he noticed the swirling fluctuations. "Got you. You're dead for sure!"
With those words, the black hole abruptly expanded, becoming somewhat like a portal produced by the Rinnegan's space-time technique.
Sasuke flickered forward to stand before that swirling gateway. Like Obito using Kamui, he phased into that black hole, shaped to crush any and all matter around it.
Unless Sasuke grants you clearance, anything touching that black hole is yanked in by its gravitational force and crushed to bits in spacetime distortions.
But if Sasuke deems you an ally, you can use that black hole as a short-range teleport for yourself.
Shortly after, the black hole vanished.
In the deserted expanse, only Izayoi, Madara, and Itachi remained.
Itachi snapped out of his daze, unavoidably worrying for his younger brother.
Madara, however, was not concerned about these "juniors." He turned to Izayoi and said, "Izayoi, how about a little talk?"
Sensing that Madara wished to speak, Izayoi nodded.
Madara smiled without replying, merely activating his Six Paths Sage Mode. Then he used the Rinnegan's ocular power to pull Izayoi into a genjutsu world.
Izayoi could have easily broken it, since he too possessed Six Paths Sage Mode.
And if two people each have that level of Sage power, they can clearly sense reality even within the genjutsu. Not even an adversary on the same level could sneak-attack them during that period.
Izayoi was curious what Madara wanted to say, so he cooperated, stepping into the illusion.
In fact, had Izayoi not possessed Six Paths Sage Mode, Madara would have tried linking their chakras in the manner of the Sage—pulling them both into a mental domain for direct talk, trying to make him an ally.
But that only works on those who can be thoroughly sensed. Madara's detection ability couldn't read Izayoi, and the same goes in reverse.
"Tell me, Izayoi: have you heard of 'Ōtsutsuki Isshiki'?"
As soon as they entered the illusion realm, Madara asked this question.
Izayoi inwardly smirked. This old habit of Madara—always wanting to recruit someone—had flared up again.
But it fit Izayoi's purpose too.
Izayoi feigned a moment of subtle shock, carefully responding: "Another Ōtsutsuki is alive besides the one on the moon?"
Seeing that, Madara nodded slightly, "So you already know about the moon. Then you must realize, among those at our level, the sense of presence on that celestial body is quite distinct."
Izayoi said calmly, "Yes, with that realm's perceptual scale, it's easy to spot. So, are you telling me that in my Six Paths Sage Mode, you suspect there's a third presence akin to ours?"
Madara followed with, "At the time, did you detect a powerful chakra beyond the two of us and Ōtsutsuki Toneri? A presence that appeared momentarily, then vanished?"
Izayoi pretended to sigh, wearing a grave look. "When I invoked my mode, indeed, I sensed something that strong, only for it to disappear quickly."
"That presence is Ōtsutsuki Isshiki," Madara openly admitted. Then, playing a set of carefully edited illusions, he explained: "Isshiki and the Rabbit Goddess arrived on Earth together. His status outranked hers, but for unknown reasons, she betrayed him and nearly got him devoured by the Ten-Tails. He survived, though, by parasitically lodging himself in a human. Possibly because of that, he's stayed hidden. If he recovers his prime or calls in more from the clan, it's an unimaginable threat."
He concluded with, "We can't let that happen—this is far graver than Ten-Tails. Alone, I can't easily pinpoint him, but if we join forces, once we find his dimension, he cannot escape."
Saying nothing at first, Izayoi waited. After a few seconds, he finally said, "I'm skeptical of your entire story, but if I have time to spare, I might check it out."
"That's good enough," Madara replied with a faint smile. "If you need help, feel free to come find me."
Hearing that, Izayoi was about to mock him but suddenly froze, sensing something else.
The illusion dissipated.
Returning to reality, Izayoi and Madara discovered a small black hole suddenly appeared beside Madara.
Obito—clothes torn, covered in blood, missing his entire left arm—lurched out of it. Ragged with exertion, he cried, "Madara, quick, heal me!"
Seeing a chunk of Obito's mask broken off, revealing that left eye is now blind from Izanagi, Madara frowned. "You're regressing, Obito. I taught you every technique I know, yet you can't beat some brat who only just got his Mangekyō?"
Though not actually Obito's teacher, Madara had indeed bestowed everything from Yin-Yang Release to a fraction of the Six Paths power.
Yet after all these years, the fool still lost to Sasuke—who had awakened Mangekyō Sharingan so recently.
Madara felt regret at selecting him as a pawn.
With a bitter expression, Obito said, "He had black holes even inside the Kamui dimension—like Preta Path, they swallow every ninjutsu, plus they distort and pulverize absolutely everything. Even my physical attacks can't land a hit. Without Izanagi, I'd already be dead."
Obito was still haunted by how he'd gone intangible in the Kamui realm, only to realize Sasuke's black holes still functioned there, tearing him apart if not for his last-second Izanagi.
"So he can even absorb jutsu inside the Kamui dimension?" Madara raised an eyebrow, giving a nod of appreciation. "Offense, defense, flight, plus space-time—truly a top-tier Mangekyō ability."
Even so, it still can't threaten Madara's Limbo in a real sense. But recalling his own Limbo's uselessness against Izayoi and Ōtsutsuki Toneri, Madara's mood wasn't bright.
He peered down and noticed a wooden branch had quietly ensnared his right foot. Confusion flickered in his eyes as he looked at Izayoi.
"Let's not meddle in their personal hatred," Izayoi said with a smirk. At that moment, Madara vanished—the wooden branch had forcibly teleported him away. Caught off guard and not expecting a cheap shot from Izayoi, Madara was undone by a trifling trick.
Seeing this, Obito's face went pale.
"Die! Sage Art: White Rage Technique!"
Sasuke emerged from his black hole, stepping out saturated with Senjutsu chakra. He exhaled a crimson glowing dragon from his mouth. The scarlet dragon clutched a black sphere in its claws. It dove into the sphere and detonated, unleashing a deafening white flash that devoured everything in that wasteland.
The white light was accompanied by sonic waves so intense they robbed both Obito—who only just ended his Izanagi—and Itachi of their senses.
They both instinctively clamped their hands over their ears, the painful vibrations rattling their bones. Obito nearly failed to activate Kamui again.
But at the last second, he endured the agony, forcing the Yin-nature chakra in his mind to slip into intangible form once more.
He believed himself safe in Kamui's dimension. Yet he never realized that in the darkness behind him, a streak of pale-blue soared by like lightning.
Even if he tried scanning, he'd never detect it. One needed sensor powers capable of perceiving souls.
That flickering spirit swiftly entered Obito's body from behind, his face twisting in alarm: "Th-this is a spir—"
He couldn't finish his sentence, for his mind went blank. His environment shifted from Kamui's dimension into a spiritual domain. But there was no battle; it ended in an instant.
In reality, a small black hole appeared next to the intangible Obito. Sasuke slipped out from it, swiftly forging a blade of scorching light that ran Obito through from behind. Once the occupying spirit soared free, Sasuke jerked his weapon upward, slicing Obito's body in two.
"H-how… is that possible…"
Eyes unfocused, Obito looked at the coldly unmoved Sasuke, utterly unable to accept dying to this brat.
Yet the paralyzed half of his body, the numbness in his mind, all proved this wasn't an illusion.
"Just wait," Sasuke hissed. "Dying is just the beginning for you. I'll use Edo Tensei to bring you back, then kill your soul as well! Only by erasing you completely, body and spirit, can I repay my clan's blood debt. Only then can I quell my rage!"
Obito's eyes shot wide. As if a memory flashed, his gaze was full of terror. He stammered, "No… don't kill my soul, I st—"
Without letting him finish, Sasuke extended the scalding light sword, bisecting Obito's head from crown to chin.
Thus died the man who once terrorized the shinobi world, orchestrating the Nine-Tails rampage, plunging Kirigakure into a "Bloody Mist," and remaining a looming dread for Izayoi before Izayoi fully matured—none other than the first Tobi, the greatest flunky behind the curtains.
But to Sasuke, who awakened a Mangekyō specifically countering Kamui—plus taught advanced combat logic by Izayoi, combining the Spirit Transformation jutsu with the independent nature of Wood Clones—Obito was helpless.
In that final confrontation, Sasuke shredded him like a toy.
