The sky above Gotham cracked open at dawn.

Not metaphorically literally.

A sonic boom fractured the air, scattering pigeons and shattering a dozen windows across Old Gotham. Peter heard it from two boroughs away, perched on the edge of a smokestack, mid-swing. The sound hit him like a memory from another life like thunder tied to something faster than the world itself.

"Okay," he muttered. "That's not good."

By the time he made it to the city center, people were already gathering. Phones out. Chins tilted up. The news vans beat him there. So did the fear.

In the middle of Founders' Square, surrounded by cordons and trembling cops, stood a crater ten feet wide scorched, glassed over, radiating a gentle blue light that made Peter's skin itch.

Hovering above it, arms folded, cape fluttering gently in the thermal draft, was a man Peter recognized instantly even though they'd never met.

Superman.

Peter's first instinct was to turn around.

Not because he was afraid but because something about the man floating above the crater felt… inevitable. Like gravity. Or consequence.

Even without enhanced senses, Peter could feel the aura rolling off him. The air around Superman seemed stiller. Clearer. Calmer.

And Peter hated it.

He hated how small he felt.

He webbed to a nearby high-rise and crouched on the ledge, studying the situation. GCPD had pulled back. Batman hadn't shown. That, more than anything, made Peter nervous. If the Bat wasn't in the shadows, it meant he was watching from somewhere deeper.

Peter waited.

Then, without quite meaning to, he dropped into the scene.

"Friendly neighborhood Spider-Man," he announced, landing softly on the pavement. "Though I guess I'm not really local."

Superman turned.

And Peter almost forgot how to breathe.

The guy wasn't just tall. He was iconic. Square jaw, steely eyes, and that suit like it had been sewn by destiny itself. The red cape snapped like a banner in a war that had already been won.

"You're the one from the anomalies," Superman said. Calm. Not unkind. But assessing. Like a doctor reading a chart before diagnosis.

Peter tilted his head. "Not exactly the welcome I expected."

"You're not supposed to be here."

"Tell me about it."

Superman landed lightly, the crater dimming behind him. His boots didn't even crack the pavement. Peter found himself reflexively checking for hidden wires because nothing that big moved that gracefully without cheating physics.

But he knew better.

This guy wasn't cheating physics.

He was physics.

"You came through a tear in the Multiverse," Superman said.

Peter frowned. "You say that like it's something that happens every Tuesday."

"It doesn't," Superman replied. "Not unless something or someone is pulling strings."

Peter folded his arms. "So I'm what? An accident? A stray signal?"

"You're an anomaly. But not unimportant."

"Gee, thanks. That clears up everything."

Superman didn't blink. He just stepped closer. "I read the reports. Your physiology is altered. Your DNA is threaded with radioactive signatures that don't match any known Earth-based origin. And your aura's distorted like you were untethered mid-transit."

Peter rubbed the back of his neck. "So… I got pulled into the wrong cosmic Uber?"

Superman didn't smile. "You're in Earth-Zero. This isn't your universe."

Peter stiffened.

He'd suspected. Hoped it wasn't true. Hoped it was just a glitch in his memories, a ripple from the bleed-through effects Batman had mentioned.

But now, hearing it out loud, it landed like a punch to the gut.

Earth-Zero.

Not Earth-616. Not even Ultimate.

This wasn't a branch of his world.

It was something entirely different.

Peter sat on the edge of the crater and looked at his hands.

They still looked the same calloused from years of swinging, scarred from years of saving.

But the weight behind them felt heavier now.

"Does this world have a Peter Parker?" he asked quietly.

Superman shook his head. "No. Not that I've found."

Peter's jaw tightened. "What about an Aunt May? MJ? Anyone?"

"I'm sorry."

Silence stretched.

Then Superman said, "We've seen incursions before. Some dangerous. Some confused. But never one this... stable."

"Gee. I feel so special."

"You should," Superman said. "You survived reentry into a reality that should've torn you apart. You're not just a visitor here, Peter. You're a variable."

Peter blinked. "You know my name?"

Superman raised an eyebrow. "I can hear your heart rate. And you don't wear a lead-lined mask."

Peter snorted. "Right. X-ray vision. Super hearing. What don't you have?"

"A way home for you."

The humor died instantly.

Peter looked up.

"That bad, huh?"

Superman nodded. "There's no pathway back. Not from here. Not now."

Peter didn't respond.

Didn't move.

He just sat in the wreckage of who he was and let it settle around him like ash.

They stood together in silence for a long time.

Then, Superman broke it.

"You're not alone."

Peter's voice was flat. "Sure feels like it."

"I've been where you are," Superman said. "Not exactly. But close enough. Lost. Angry. Looking for something to anchor me."

Peter looked at him sideways. "And what did you find?"

Superman gazed at the skyline. "A reason to stay."

Peter followed his gaze. The city shimmered with early morning light. Even Gotham gritty, brutal Gotham had a kind of melancholy beauty in the sunrise. The shadows pulled back just far enough to show something beneath the decay.

A hint of potential.

"I don't think I'm ready for that," Peter said.

Superman nodded once. "You don't have to be. Not yet. But when you are you'll find allies."

Peter glanced at him. "You saying I've got the Justice League's number now?"

"I'm saying… when the time comes, you'll know who to call."

Superman turned, preparing to rise again.

But Peter stepped forward.

"One more thing."

Superman paused.

"Why don't you blink?"

The faintest curve tugged at the corner of Superman's mouth.

"Because sometimes… the world changes in a blink."

And then, with a gust of wind and a crack of pressure, he was gone.

Peter stood alone in the crater.

The light had faded.

The smoke had cleared.

And still, he hadn't blinked.

Because for the first time since waking up in Gotham, he understood the stakes.

This wasn't about going home anymore.

This was about choosing what kind of hero he'd be here.

And who he'd have to become to survive it.
