Chapter 299: The Fundamentals
Jason would go to fight the Sovereign since he knew his subordinates couldn't handle him, and he would try to either hold him off until his Legions win the other battles or kill him so he could make things easier for the rest of the Legion.
'But it'll be nice if we can get some sort of reinforcements from the people in Radagan. I'm sure that not all of them are in support of the Sovereign. It was a coup, so there had to be a revolution that fought against him. Did the Soverign manage to kill everyone who opposed him?'
'Actually, there is something else, my king.'
One of the Radagan soldiers suddenly spoke up, and Jason turned to him and hummed when he saw that it was Grinot. Grinot bowed to Jason in respect, and Jason gestured for him to speak.
'Although there has been no backlash from the citizens and nobles, mainly due to their fear of the Sovereign's power, there has been a significant backlash from the dragons and wyverns living in the Ashenvalley. Every year, there is a ritual carried out by the young children in Radagan where they go to the Ashenvalley Forest and try to bond with one of the young dragons or wyverns living there. It is something that has been happening since the dawn of our world, and it is the only way a dragonborn child can find a lifelong companion. But after the coup, the dragons and wyverns in the Ashenvalley grew hostile against all the Radagan children who went to try and bond with them. The adult dragons and wyverns blocked the path into the Ashenvalley Forest, and the children haven't been able to gain any companions ever since. Some of the nobles believe that this is the work of the dragon gods who are angry at the Sovereign for his actions, but the Sovereign refuses to believe this, and he claims that he would kill all the adult dragons and wyverns if they continue to act hostile.'
Jason's brow furrowed as he listened with rapt attention to the words from his subordinate, and Jason's mind began to run at even faster speeds as he considered the implications of such a situation. This… could be useful. Jason had no idea that the dragons and wyverns on Radagan were so independent. Jason always thought that the people in Radagan were in control of the Magical beasts, and the Magical beasts just did whatever they wanted.
'That means the dragons that attacked us only did so because they formed a bond with the Dragonborn. The free dragons have their own beliefs and thoughts, and they don't like the fact that the Sovereign took over the kingdom. If I can get the dragons to fight with us… wouldn't that even the odds?'
Jason rubbed the bridge of his nose as he felt a slight headache coming over him from thinking too much, but the headache suddenly reduced as Gina began running her hand through his hair. Gina noticed that strained look on Jason's face that he only got whenever he was pushing himself too much, and she placed a kiss against his temple while telling him to take it easy.
"You're still not well-rested from the fights you had. Try not to push yourself too much, babe. Please."
Jason gave Gina a small smile while nodding, but he couldn't stop just yet since he was already close to figuring out the plan for a proper attack. Jason took another drink from the juice Gina brought for him, and Gina got up and went to get some more when she noticed that it was almost finished.
"I'll be right back."
Jason turned when Gina said this, and his eyes took in the sight of her beautiful pear-shaped ass as she walked away from him. Gina glanced back with a smile when she noticed Jason's eyes on her, and she began to swing her hips in a more seductive manner to give him a proper show as she left. Jason grinned at her actions, and his eyes stayed glued to her body until she was out of sight. Once she was gone, Jason chuckled and took another drink from the glass. Jason fucking loved that woman!
Jason refocused on his earlier train of thought as he began to think about how to get the dragons and wyverns to support him. Jason wasn't sure about whether or not there was a Dragon god in Radagan that told the Dragons and Wyverns what to do, but the fact that the Dragons and Wyverns knew about the coup and were actively opposing it told Jason that they were smart enough to choose sides. Jason wasn't from Radagan, and he didn't have any link at all to the Dragonborns other than Ragnar and the other dragon subordinates, so there was no way the dragons would ever come to help Jason. So if Jason wanted to get the dragons and wyverns to support him, then he needed to get someone that they could relate to, to talk ot them. And the best option would be someone from the Royal family, like...
'Riyala.'
Jason's eyes narrowed as he realized exactly what he had to do. If Riyala could convince the dragons and wyverns to come to fight against the Sovereign as well, then the battle would become far easier for Jason and his subordinates. Jason was only one superhuman from a Rank II world, and no matter how powerful he was, it would be almost impossible for him to defeat all the fighters in a Rank III world on his own! He needed the help.
'I'll send Riyala to the Ashenvalley Forest to talk to the dragons and wyverns while I go to the main city to start the fight. From what the soldiers said, I know the dragons don't like getting involved with the Dragonborn unless they are bonded, so there is a real chance that the dragons and wyverns will just ignore Riyala, or they might attack her. But it's better to try and fail than not to try at all. I'll send some subordinates with her for protection, and I'll focus on the main fight while she's talking to the dragons, so even if she fails, it won't change much.'
Jason finally came up with a reasonable plan in his head and he dismissed the Radagan soldiers since he was done talking to them. Jason called on Azrael, and the large ten-foot-tall Lich appeared in Jason's living room. The Lich's head was literally scraping the ceiling, and Jason called out in annoyance.
"Hey, bend down a little, you bastard. You're going to ruin the damn paint."
Azrael gained a slightly sheepish expression on his face, and Jason had no idea how a face that was literally just a skull managed to look apologetic! Azrael bent down and sat on his knees, and Jason asked him to start explaining the rune carving process for the [Death's Mirage].
Azrael nodded as he brought out the first journal in his collection and gave it to Jason. Jason opened the book, and he read the title 'Runes and Glyphs: The Fundamentals' as Azrael spoke.
'Although I'll be drawing the runes on your body, you need to have a basic idea of Mana injection and Glyphs before you can activate the runes. This is the first book I ever wrote while training under my teacher. It gives a basic explanation of all the principles and fundamentals that need to be learned by every beginner Rune Crafter. From my estimate and the intelligence I have gleaned from you, I assume that it will take about a week for you to properly learn everything in the book. The average scholar in my world would take a month to learn all this information, but I believe your high comprehension abilities allow you to assimilate faster than even some of the most brilliant minds in my world, so a week will be sufficient. But we do not have time, so we will have to focus on learning the parts that are required for binding with the [Death's Mirage] within the next hour—'
Jason raised a single finger and told Azrael to hold on as he glanced at the tab that just opened in his system.
[The user has discovered a new knowledge book, [Runes and Glyphs: The Fundamentals], under the [Runic Arts] magic system. Will the user like to consume this knowledge book? Yes/No]
Jason's lips curved into a grin.
