Strongest Soldier King

Chapter 938: Tunnel Warfare Tactics

"The three slopes on the left side of the mountain entrance are likely paths for enemy attacks. They will definitely send small squads through there to infiltrate. Sarazi, have all your men lie in ambush over there. The two slopes on the right could also be potential infiltration routes for the enemy. Gai Wafu, arrange three hundred men to guard them. Everyone else will serve as reserves. I'll assign people to assist with the command at each location. How does that sound?" Luo Zheng asked seriously. It's a critical situation, so Luo Zheng cannot afford to be careless, utilizing all his skills and resourcefulness. The tragic ambush by Sam Country's Special Forces on allied troops filled him with rage.

"No problem," Sarazi readily agreed.

Gai Wafu considered this arrangement: two hundred men at the mountain entrance and three hundred on the right side. It seemed unusual; perhaps the mountain entrance isn't the main battlefield. With five hundred men as reserves, they'll be able to handle any incidents swiftly. So he agreed, eager to observe how Luo Zheng would fight this battle.

After confirming the major arrangement, Luo Zheng had the two call in the key leaders and he phoned his team members to come over. After a while, everyone gathered. Luo Zheng saw that everyone was fine, and Snow Leopard's injuries seemed to have stabilized significantly. He breathed a sigh of relief, took the equipment handed to him, and briefly explained the situation.

"This battle can be fought, ideally eliminating some of Sam Country's Special Forces to avenge our brotherly units. You called us over, are you asking us to assist with command?" Lan Xue inquired.

"That's right. These barren mountains are hard for ambushes; deploying firepower, concealing personnel, and constructing fortifications need professional training. I'm concerned about this, Ghost Hand, you're responsible for the left side; Mountain Eagle, you're on the right; Snow Leopard, you're at the mountain entrance; Xue Er, support Snow Leopard first, and help me when needed. Any problems?" Luo Zheng asked sternly.

"No problem," everyone agreed.

This dialogue was conducted in the Huaxia tongue. Once he gained everyone's support, Luo Zheng switched to the international language to communicate with Sarazi and Gai Wafu for a while. They both agreed wholeheartedly and introduced their key leaders to everyone, instructing them to obey everyone's command.

The leaders readily agreed, then assembled their teams and left. With only half a day before dusk, preparations needed to be swift. Suddenly, Luo Zheng remarked, "Soldiers cannot be moved to the mountain top in one go; it's easy for satellite surveillance to spot them. They need to go in batches slowly, and immediately hide upon arrival."

"Don't worry, we know what to do," Ghost Hand, Snow Leopard, and Mountain Eagle responded confidently.

Luo Zheng glanced at Snow Leopard, who nodded understandingly, puffed out his chest, implying he was fine. Luo Zheng forced a bitter smile, took off the black robe and headscarf, and equipped himself. Ghost Hand also changed outfits; the disguise was no longer needed, so it was better to wear his own combat gear.

The gear was quickly changed, restoring their military demeanor. Ghost Hand also swapped gear and hurried off with Snow Leopard and Mountain Eagle. Luo Zheng looked at Sarazi and Gai Wafu and said, "Once this battle is over, your names will spread throughout this country. Success or failure depends on everyone."

"It depends on how many they send. If they truly send only a hundred troops, it's no problem. If more forces are behind them, that will be troublesome," Sarazi voiced his concern.

"Don't worry. My men will monitor them via satellite. If there are many, we'll let them pass; if few, we'll engage. Ideally, we capture Siya Fa alive and swallow his troops," Luo Zheng said confidently with a smile, without a hint of panic.

Upon Luo Zheng's words, Sarazi's expression changed subtly. His cautious eyes turned slightly fervent. If he could indeed annex Siya Fa's troops, his power would grow rapidly. However, Sarazi was prudent, knowing such thoughts were mere fantasies. He chuckled and said, "It's a good idea, but I doubt Siya Fa will come. At most, he'll send his trusted aides; he's famous for being afraid of death."

"That's a shame," Luo Zheng said indifferently with a smile. "This place offers a broad vision and is a good command point. Let's command the battle from here."

Sarazi and Gai Wafu didn't object. After chatting for a while, Luo Zheng saw Sarazi and Gai Wafu's men start moving. In groups of ten, they casually went to designated hills, equipped with digging tools. Upon arrival, they began to dig tunnels under Ghost Hand's guidance, each assigned a specific spot.

After a while, they dug one meter deep horizontally into the tunnel. More people strolled up casually, crawled into the tunnels to help dig. Every five to six minutes, more casually ran up the hill, in groups of about ten each time, spreading out. The mountain landscape was vast, making their intentions hard to decipher.

About an hour later, more crawled into the tunnels of a certain depth to hide, assisting with digging. The top part of the tunnel was hollowed out, forming foxholes. With this, foxholes could be used for outside attacks. In emergency situations, one could retract into the tunnel to hide or counter from another location. The flexibility was extraordinarily high.

The mountains were severely desertified, with loose soil that was easy to dig. Plus, Ghost Hand and others had professional training to understand the tricks of earthwork. Digging such tunnels wasn't very challenging. Observing this, Luo Zheng exhaled in relief. Sarazi and Gai Wafu, witnessing tunnel warfare for the first time, instantly recognized its effectiveness and were elated. Concealment was indeed the biggest challenge in wilderness combat, and this tunnel tactic addressed the issue.

"This method is great, not only providing a commanding view but making it hard for enemies to hit, while also allowing flexible moves. This boosts our chances of victory," Sarazi genuinely praised.

"The key to this tactic is to hide from satellites above. Sam Country's satellites don't play around. Once detected, we can't catch them off guard. But, self-preservation isn't an issue. My main concerns now are: firstly, Sam Country's Special Forces might detach from Siya Fa and infiltrate quietly from elsewhere; secondly, Siya Fa's army follows closely, ready to join the battle when it starts," Luo Zheng said gravely.

"With these tunnels, even if Siya Fa's five to six thousand troops all rush in, we're not afraid. We can definitely hold them off. A war of attrition isn't something Siya Fa wants. If he spots little chance of success, he'll surely retreat," Sarazi pondered aloud.

Luo Zheng agreed, not being a war between two countries, and it's unlikely anyone would deplete their own resources for a third party. Relaxing inwardly, he suddenly had a clever idea and told Sarazi, "Quickly gather your men now. Only a hundred will suffice. Secretly surround Siya Fa. Be swift. If Siya Fa moves his forces, your men can raid his base, plundering everything."
