Su Yi, The Pokemon(?) Master (Pokemon X Monster Hunter Fanfic)

Chapter 15: Chapter 15: Leon’s Challenge! Hunter? Challenger!

"Su Yi, so you get lost just like me!"

Su Yi was speechless. He thought to himself, How can that be the same? I got lost because I have no idea where I am, but you get lost simply because you're a hopeless case when it comes to directions.

"Roar..." Charizard, standing beside them, spread its claws helplessly and shook its head. Is that really something to be proud of? And you're laughing so happily about it?

"Su Yi, you're not from the Galar region, are you?" Mustard asked. Neither Su Yi's appearance nor his clothing resembled that of a Galar native, and the unusual cat Pokémon by his side was completely unfamiliar.

Su Yi nodded and said, "That's right, I'm not from Galar. I come from a faraway place."

"A faraway place?" Leon didn't press for details, as he wasn't the type to pry. He simply felt that someone who battled with passion, cared about their Pokémon's feelings, and could laugh sincerely while bonding with them couldn't possibly be a bad person.

"Yes, from a faraway place, journeying to the ends of the world. This is the lifelong adventure I dream of." Su Yi took a deep breath, his heart filled with anticipation for the vast and exciting world ahead.

"I'm going with Su Yi, meow!" Rucao leaped into Su Yi's arms and said eagerly.

Su Yi lifted the little cat and bumped his fist against its paw.

"Ah, youth... so full of energy, so full of excitement for the unknown." Mustard stroked his beard, reminiscing about his younger days.

"What an adorable Pokémon, and it even talks!" Honey, however, was captivated by the cute feline Pokémon.

"Su Yi, you must have other Pokémon I've never seen before. Amazing! I'm getting so excited!" Inspired by Su Yi's free-spirited and adventurous words, Leon suddenly slammed his hands on the table and stood up.

"Su Yi, battle with me!"

"Huh? A battle? With Leon?" Su Yi was momentarily taken aback.

However, when he saw the pure excitement in Leon's eyes—the yearning to face new opponents, the eagerness to experience the unknown—he immediately understood.

Deep down, all true Pokémon lovers shared the same desire.

Meeting new people and Pokémon, witnessing the bonds between trainers and their partners, challenging the powerful and the unknown, honing one's skills, and constantly striving for greater heights—wasn't that the very essence of what made the Pokémon world so wonderful?

"Since it's an invitation from the champion, how could I refuse?" Su Yi clenched his fist with a determined smile.

"Alright, alright, but before battling, you two need to fill your stomachs first!" Honey said with a hint of exasperation.

"Then let's dig in!" Su Yi & Leon shouted in unison.

"It looks like Leon has met someone interesting." Mustard watched as Leon and Su Yi devoured their meals, a nostalgic look appearing on his weathered face.

He remembered when Leon was still young—driven, curious, and ambitious. That drive had led him to the title of the strongest champion. But Leon's deep love for Galar and his strong sense of responsibility made him take on the mission of protecting and fostering the region's prosperity. From that moment on, he no longer had the time to embark on carefree adventures like before.

Now, looking at Su Yi, who was about the same age as Leon, it felt as if he were seeing a version of Leon unburdened by responsibilities.

Perhaps Leon had realized this as well. That's why, for this moment, he set aside his champion's status and returned to his original self—to fully enjoy this fleeting moment of freedom.

"The food is as delicious as ever, Honey." Leon sighed contentedly, putting down his utensils.

"Thank you for the meal, Aunt Honey," Su Yi said politely.

"Seeing you all so full of energy is the greatest compliment to me," Honey replied with a warm smile.

"Now then!" Leon turned to Su Yi, his eyes burning with anticipation.

Su Yi let out a small chuckle and said, "Besides being an adventurer, I'm also a hunter. And a hunter—put another way—is a challenger! I won't feel any pressure facing the champion."

"You young ones are overflowing with energy!" Mustard laughed as he led them to a massive battlefield built within the mountain ravine behind the dojo.

As Leon did some warm-up stretches, he asked, "Su Yi, how many Pokémon shall we use?"

Su Yi thought for a moment before answering, "Let's do a one-on-one match. I want to see how much of a gap there is between my partner and a champion's Pokémon."

"Sounds good!" Leon adjusted his cap and grasped a Poké Ball.

Su Yi also took out the capture ball containing his Great Jagras, his expression serious and focused.

Just as he had said, he wanted to gauge the difference between his companion and the top-tier Pokémon of this world. Though his partner's current ecological standing was relatively low, he needed to see where they stood.

"No problem. Su Yi, you should be familiar with Pokémon battle rules, right?" Mustard stepped into the referee position and asked.

"Completely familiar." Su Yi prepared himself while Rucao cheered for him from the sidelines.

"Then, the one-on-one match between little Leon and young Su Yi—begin!" Mustard announced loudly.

"Go, Inteleon!" Leon was the first to throw his Poké Ball.

"Inteleon!" A sleek, humanoid blue lizard Pokémon appeared, gazing at Su Yi with elegance.

"Not using your ace, Charizard?" Su Yi thought to himself as he tossed his own Poké Ball.

"Go, Great Jagras!"

With a loud boom, a massive yellow-green lizard landed on the battlefield.

"Roarrr!" Great Jagras let out a fierce cry, its black eye markings resembling battle scars, giving it an especially menacing look.

"Whoa! That's a huge Pokémon! It's not that Scraggy-like one from before, but another Pokémon I've never seen! How exciting!" Leon marveled at the sight of the towering Great Jagras, his anticipation growing even stronger.

"Hmm, this Pokémon exudes a primal, untamed aura. Just what kind of region does a Pokémon like this come from?" Mustard observed Great Jagras with great interest.

The battle officially began!

"Let's start with a greeting! Inteleon, Snipe Shot!" Leon commanded.

"Inteleon!" Inteleon extended its fingers, forming the shape of a gun. In the next instant, a bright blue light flashed at its fingertip, and a high-pressure stream of water shot toward Great Jagras with deadly precision.

"Great Jagras, dodge it!" Su Yi shouted.

"Roar!" Great Jagras moved its powerful limbs, swiftly sidestepping, barely avoiding the attack.

"Against a sniper, that's too slow! Again—Snipe Shot!" Leon ordered.

Inteleon instantly fired another pinpoint water bullet. Before Great Jagras could react, it was struck directly.

"Rooaarr!" Great Jagras roared in pain, stumbling as a deep wound appeared on its side.

"Thin but incredibly lethal—what a sharp attack, Inteleon." Su Yi clenched his fist.
