These classic existential questions floated through Adam's mind, accompanied by the discomfort of a throbbing headache, parched throat, and feverish body.

Looking up at the familiar ceiling through bleary eyes, he recognized he was in his suburban mansion.

With effort, he pushed himself to sit up. Glancing at the floor-to-ceiling window on his left, he confirmed this was indeed his room.

"I'm back?" The thought surfaced unbidden.

He strained to piece together his memories.

Kazuma had suggested a private welcome ceremony at the mansion, but Aqua had countered: "As heroes who saved the village, shouldn't we publicize your return to boost our reputation?"

Though Adam and Kazuma saw through her desire to show off, they had to admit their party's reputation in Axel needed help. The 『Hero』 Party's good name had been steadily declining thanks to their more troublesome members.

They decided to let Aqua handle the arrangements, not expecting that the name [Adam Carter] would draw every adventurer in town wanting to meet him.

With each guest bringing alcohol, refusing to drink would have been rude. Soon enough, the drinks overcame him.

He could have used〘Purify〙to negate the alcohol's effects, but doing so in front of the enthusiastic crowd pressing around him would have been tactless and disrespectful.

Such an act would have insulted every adventurer in Axel.

He'd hoped Aqua might help, but the foolish Goddess had passed out before he did!

Even Kazuma, basking in all the praise, succumbed to the drinks. And Megumin, left unattended, had sneaked enough alcohol to knock herself out too.

Later, all the adventurers at the guild collapsed in a drunken stupor. He had been one of the few heroes who managed to stay conscious until near the end.

Eventually though, even he succumbed.

Had Darkness carried everyone back?

It made sense — she was always the sensible one who avoided their team's antics.

Besides, their team's muscular female knight possessed such incredible strength that carrying a few people would have been effortless for her.

After piecing together his memories, Adam gazed out the floor-to-ceiling window at the sky.

Pitch black, with lights twinkling in the distance — night had fallen not long ago.

From noon drinks to afternoon collapse to dusk return to night awakening. What a day.

'I'm burning up and sticky all over.' Adam thought as he shifted uncomfortably, 'I need a bath.'

He stumbled out of bed.

The mansion was unusually quiet tonight — perhaps because all his rowdy housemates were asleep? Were they trying to give him space on his first day back?

How considerate... if only he hadn't gotten drunk.

Without further thought, he made his way to the bathroom.

Lights were off, no sign was posted. Must be empty.

Still dazed, he stripped and walked into the bathroom.

And then!

A breathtaking vision unfolded before him like a painted scroll.

A woman's back came into view. Her skin, white as jade, gleamed in the moonlight with an otherworldly radiance that seemed to flow beneath its surface.

Golden hair tied up revealed her fair nape. Long legs curved like polished jade, while smooth, rounded curves flowed upward to reveal generous proportions even from behind.

Her silhouette traced a perfect double-S curve!

The enchanting sight lay fully revealed before Adam's eyes.

What young man could remain composed facing such an overwhelming scene?

His heart raced wildly as blood rushed to his head. His alcohol-addled mind instantly cleared, and his body responded with natural vigor.

The moonlit beauty tensed at the sound of the opening door, then slowly turned to look.

As she moved, her generous figure swayed gracefully, fully exposed to his view.

"Darkness?!" Adam exclaimed in shock.

"W-w-w-w-why... why is Adam here? Weren't you drunk?! And... I-I-I-I... I'm sure I hung up the sign!" Darkness quickly covered herself, her hands flying to shield her body.

Her face flushed crimson, her eyes darting wildly. Her lips trembled as she struggled between screaming and staying silent.

She was utterly discombobulated.

"Wait! Darkness, please listen!" Adam rushed to quiet her.

If her screams woke Aqua and Megumin, his reputation would be destroyed.

Worse still, the 『Hero』 image he'd carefully cultivated for the team would crumble instantly!

"Look, I'm still drunk — everything's a blur! I can barely see anything, and my thoughts are completely muddled from the alcohol!" He spoke earnestly despite his obvious lies, trying desperately to calm her panicked state.

"Really?" She eyed him skeptically, "Then how did you know it was me?"

"Ah..." Adam faltered.

He'd forgotten that despite her peculiarities, Darkness was far sharper than Aqua.

"Didn't you call out to me first?" He attempted to muddy the waters, "My vision may be poor, but my hearing is fine — I recognized your voice."

"Did I?" Darkness's flustered state had scattered her thoughts, "Did I call your name?"

In her confusion, she'd completely forgotten that he had been the one to identify her.

"Yes, exactly!" Adam hastily seized the opportunity to change the subject, "Darkness, I'll leave you to your bath now."

He reached for the door handle.

But before he could grasp it, Darkness spoke.

"Wait!"

"Uh..." His motion to close the door froze, "W-what is it, Darkness?"

He struggled to keep his voice steady.

"Since you're here, you can help wash my back."

"Huh? W-what did you say?" Her request caught Adam completely off guard.

She repeated herself more firmly, "Help wash my back! Aqua and Megumin are asleep, and you're already here—please help!"

"Me washing your back... that's not really appropriate..." He made one last weak attempt to refuse.

"What's inappropriate about it? Team members washing each other's backs is common sense! You said so yourself, Adam!"

Without waiting for his response, Darkness sat on the wooden stool and turned her back to him.

"Please!"

Huh? Why did that plea sound so familiar?

Her unexpected boldness left him at a loss.

"Hurry up!"

"Uh, okay!"

No choice. At this point, he had to go through with it.
