Chapter 461: Lynn Visits Again
Hill felt that the temperature around him was still very low, but he no longer felt cold.
The magic book was already in his mental sea, notifying him of the characteristics obtained from this chapter.
Hill directly obtained a water element's mist trap, but it could only be used where water vapor was abundant.
As long as he activated the third chapter, the Ice and Snow World, he could lay down mist in his domain, with the range consistent with the labyrinth.
The mist trap could automatically identify enemies; the first non-evil faction intruder would get lost in the fog and could be sent out of the mist trap by a vortex.
But once they entered again, they would be regarded as enemies, even if they belonged to the kind alignment.
Enemies in the mist trap would randomly suffer various ice attacks, not just blizzards and endless ice blades; the cold would also bring hail, ice spikes, and extreme freezing.
Just as Hill had thought, a storm in cold weather could transform into any winter weather attack.
And beings marked by Hill would receive the blessing of the mist trap, always able to find their direction and gain a continuous mana regen and health regen buff, in proportion.
The proportion depended on the amount of water series elements in the region of the mist trap, but it was at least 1%.
It seemed not much, but it was almost invincible, unless someone could defeat all the water element spirits Hill summoned at once.
Hill didn't think the element lords of Ferun were that weak.
In the mist trap, all beings marked by Hill would have their water and ice spells' power increased by 20%.
Even though he didn't carry the magic book with him, as long as Hill held it, he would never again be defeated by the cold. He gained a permanent temperature buff and would no longer feel heat or cold.
Hill lowered his head and thought for a while, deciding to make himself a pocket watch that tested temperature besides telling time.
Then he glanced at the ring on his left hand, a compensation gift from the Elven God King.
Probably considering Hill might come to Ferun, he specifically chose this ring that would never get lost, especially useful in the mist trap.
Of course, Hill didn't believe this was the original version.
Even dwarves could get so many treasures from the star spirits, so the Elven God King, who had direct communication with the star spirits, would have even more.
The one on his hand might not be a single item, but it was precious enough.
Hill had long discovered that, although the elves fought for power with the moon elves and even suppressed their development, they still regarded them as one of their race.
They were proud of their gold elven bloodline but did not see the moon elven bloodline as a disgrace.
But this was a power struggle; even humans from different countries and backgrounds fought until their heads broke and blood flowed!
If the Elven God King hadn't been so foolish, or rather, spoiled, never bowing to anything, doing things as he pleased and offending everyone, the elves of Teraxil wouldn't have performed so poorly.
But regardless of Hill's Earth Bear bloodline or moon elven blood, it made the elves see Hill as half their own. Therefore, the God King gave Hill useful gifts.
What he gave to William, however, were flashy but useless items. Though they seemed valuable, they certainly didn't enhance William's strength.
The Space Gate artifact was similar. Even though William and the God of Time and Space could gain some new divine arts or powers from it, those were things they would eventually learn over time.
But the materials and this mist trap ring given to Hill were truly items that could greatly enhance Hill's power.
Otherwise, the Elven God King would have given Hill a nature system or water system artifact, which would clash with Hill's own skills and artifacts, but he couldn't say those items had no value.
Hill looked at the Mystery Rein Ring on his hand, gently stroking it, unexpectedly finding it could bring him new mist trap power.
One reason Hill dared to go against the Fury Camp was this ring.
Not only did it ensure Hill would never get lost, more importantly, facing the Fury Camp, Hill's spell skills could gain an additional level of power.
Hill was already at level 22, but in battles with those deities, he could be equivalent to level 23.
This ring even covered his summoning spell and contract.
This was one reason the Murderous Vine could easily take down the God of Slaughter of Felunryel. Hill hadn't expected Mystery Rein's hatred towards Marla to extend even to his false self.
This +1 skill even included Mask's subordinates.
So Hill didn't even need to use his ultimate move; that seemingly powerful God-favored thief could only fake death to escape.
His level wasn't low; Lynn didn't see it, but Hill knew that guy was at least level 16.
For Hill in the past, keeping this ring on him was to escape a deadly attack with dimensional movement during the most dangerous times.
This was the first time he realized how strong the mist trap effect was.
Agleya had already been watching outside the window for a long time since, as a water deity, she couldn't miss such a powerful water element fluctuation.
Hill handed her the magic book, and the little girl quickly gave up her boring hobby, fully immersed in thinking about how to turn this mist trap into her power.
Watching Agleya holding the magic book without letting go, even starting to search through Hill's various magic books for information, Hill smiled contentedly.
This was a pretty good additional outcome.
Hill had done everything he could for possible territories; all that remained was waiting for time and opportunity.
Winter was still long; he could now consider more earth system spells.
This time, Hill could be more at ease. He wrote down all the earth system magic he could think of on long white paper, neatly organizing them into the past earth, wood, and metal systems.
As for spells common to all three systems, there were only two: increased resonance of earth system magic and the Earth Shield Defense.
Hill had decided to place these two spells on the first and second pages; the last page would definitely feature Meteorite Fall as the ultimate skill.
The rest was to consider which spells were best suited to be in the same chapter as these three.
He hung the three paper sheets full of writing in the center of his study, clearly visible whenever he looked up from reading.
Hill hoped to find his inner resonance within two months.
After a month of silence, Lynn finally stepped into Hill's labyrinth again.
Seeing the sheriff brought in by Marsha, Hill couldn't help greeting, "How busy are you that I can't even see you?"
After the miracle next door had disappeared, Hill had tried to check on Lynn's status.
But as soon as he stepped out, a long-waiting ranger handed him a rejection letter.
Lynn understood that the higher a mage's level, the more wary they were of deities.
Hughes might ignore the changes in the forest temple, but Hill would never expose himself to the deities' sight; he wasn't the Father of Elves, Coron.
Even the elf mages who highly respected the Lady of the Forest wouldn't like their sources of power being observed by other deities.
So as long as Lynn watched the changes in the small temple, he could determine Hill's departure time. This was why he could timely dispatch a ranger to stop Hill from going to his tavern.
Though Hill was somewhat annoyed by his nonsensical rejection letter, he understood Lynn's determination to keep him out of it.
He could only wait for the sheriff to come to him personally.
Lynn showed a bitter smile, "I just didn't want you entangled in it; the Dragon Worship Church is truly troublesome."
He glanced around curiously and sat in a soft armchair.
Hill had always received him in the living room; this time, he surprisingly let him into the study.
Lynn felt a warmth in his heart, thinking Hill had lowered his guard a bit; a mage's study held their most precious materials.
But it was overthinking; Hill simply finally had a study fit for receiving guests.
Previous books, even from Ferun Hill, weren't suitable to be displayed.
Hill couldn't imagine a reception study with no books, just paper and pens.
After Hughes sent a lot of books, Hill rewrote them on better magic paper, adding more exquisite covers.
Finally, the large bookshelves lining the study were no longer empty.
This Luxury Mansion Art could inherently include some books, but it required the constructor's mind to have them.
Usually, a mage would have at least one.
So Hill couldn't let outsiders into the study; it was obvious he was from another world.
"I thought elves didn't fear dragons," Hill slowly responded, "especially in Ferun."
"We all understand that the downfall of dragons was fought for by our elven ancestors." Lynn raised his chin, "So those fool elves who dared join the Dragon Worship Church deserve to die even more!"
"Power is indeed important, but it should never be above one's race."
Hill remained silent; he wouldn't sacrifice himself for elven honor, only pulling Lynn out to avoid him being killed by the crazed Dragon Worship Church.
Lynn didn't mind Hill's silence; many mages, even elf mages, wouldn't care about unrelated matters.
So he didn't want to drag Hill into the battle.
This was his personal matter, concerning his family and his deity, leaving him no choice but to target the Dragon Worship Church.
Hill had gold elf blood, but it was obviously mixed, leaning more towards human; he wasn't obligated.
"You need to act within your means," Hill warned Lynn calmly, "No matter how terrifying their schemes, consider your abilities before taking action."
"Don't worry," Lynn smiled, "A faithful follower of the Singer's main skill is delivering news, not fighting."
