Chapter 47: Rebellion Against Heaven - Part 34

Chapter 34: Death Waits for No One

Eternity had no sense of time.

Months, days, seconds... everything was mixed in the realm of Death.

She entertained herself on her throne, surrounded by her common heralds, damned souls who had found purpose in serving her.

Some brought her battle reports, others brought her tales of forgotten worlds, and some simply tried to make her laugh.

"My lady," said one of them, a spirit with the appearance of an old jester of the Middle Ages, "I have composed a poem to-day about the inevitability of your embrace.

"Surprise me. Death said, leaning back on his throne with a gesture of amusement.

The jester cleared his throat and began:

"When Death comes, you can't run," "

You can plead, but it will make you fall."

"The king, the beggar, the hero too,"

"All in his shadow will prostrate themselves well."

There was a brief silence.

—… Hmm. It lacks rhythm. Death commented with a mocking smile.

The other common heralds laughed, some even slapping their knees with their skeletal hands.

"Damn the rhythm!" Don't judge me so severely, ma'am! exclaimed the jester indignantly. Does it have better poetry?

Death rose, his eyes twinkling with a mischievous spark.

"Here's a better one: Everything dies. End of the poem.

The room erupted in laughter.

Even the most serious heralds couldn't help but smile.

But the fun ended when an ordinary herald rushed in, panting as if he still had lungs.

"My lady... Daichi has escaped.

The Escapist of the Inevitable

Death frowned with a mixture of surprise and disinterest.

"Daichi?" He repeated calmly.

"Yes... he cut off his limbs to free himself!" But... somehow, they regenerated.

Death raised an eyebrow.

"Interesting.

"And now—" He has summoned one of us to bring him here.
