Chapter 351: [351] Then I'll Just Surpass Your Speed
Bete stood in the courtyard, continuously stretching his legs to awaken his body from its overnight slumber.
He knew Eiji was strong.
After all, it had long been spread throughout the familia that Eiji had defeated Tiona right after becoming a Level 4.
Though it hadn't been a life-or-death battle, and Tiona hadn't been able to go all out, it still proved that Eiji had already possessed strength comparable to a Level 5 back then.
And now, he had become a true Level 5—just how strong he was now was truly hard to say.
But Bete remained confident in himself.
Unlike Tiona, who couldn't unleash her full power unless pushed to the brink of death, Bete was the type who could fight at full strength under normal circumstances—excluding the werewolf race's restricted skill, "Beastification."
"Ready?"
Having finished his warm-up, Bete rose from the ground, spreading his legs wide in a stance resembling a ferocious wolf about to pounce, his eyes gleaming with menace.
"Don't start whining about not accepting defeat after you lose!"
"Come at me."
Eiji nodded calmly.
Perfect.
Having just leveled up yesterday, he wanted to test exactly how much stronger he had become.
"Hmph!"
Seeing not a trace of panic in Eiji's expression, Bete snorted coldly.
Then, his figure abruptly vanished from his original position.
A fierce gust of wind rushed toward Eiji.
In the blink of an eye, Bete had closed the twenty-meter gap between them, his long legs launching a relentless barrage of kicks!
So fast!
And the assault was ferocious!
Bete's speed far exceeded Eiji's expectations.
He had assumed that, as fellow Level 5s, Bete wouldn't be much faster than Tiona. But that assumption had been naive.
This wasn't just "a little" faster—Tiona's speed couldn't even compare to his!
Moreover, his kicks were devastating. Before one kick had even finished, the next was already on its way, his entire body suspended midair as his legs spun like a windmill.
Each of those kicks could shatter steel—reinforced concrete would be nothing in comparison!
Clang!
But Eiji suddenly raised his wrist.
His twin swords, shaped like crosses, moved as if magnetized, their blades intercepting Bete's first kick with pinpoint precision.
Then, as the second kick came, Eiji blocked it with his second sword.
Clang clang clang clang—!
For a moment, the sound of relentless collisions filled the air.
Feet and swords clashed in an unbroken storm of sparks, the howling wind swirling around them.
"You actually blocked all of them?"
Bete, having exhausted his momentum, stood a few meters away from Eiji, a flicker of surprise in his eyes.
He had unleashed dozens of kicks in that single flurry—yet not a single one had landed. Every strike had been perfectly parried by Eiji's swords, his defense flawless.
Bete glanced down at the silver boots he wore.
Forged by the captain of the Hephaestus Familia—arguably Orario's greatest blacksmith—they were now covered in marks, their surfaces marred by spiral-like scratches.
Despite being the one on the offensive, it was his own weapon that had taken damage.
Bete lifted his head, his gaze darkening as he glared at Eiji.
The twin swords in his hands remained smooth and flawless, without a single mark, gleaming with a beautiful ripple-like radiance.
Not only that, but more importantly—
He hadn't taken a single step back!
Bete stared intently at his feet.
His stance was exactly the same as when the battle began—not only had he not retreated, but he hadn't even shifted an inch!
Only the stone tiles beneath his feet had shattered, while he himself remained composed and unshaken.
"This guy… he's definitely not ordinary!"
Bete silently raised his guard.
He was already at the peak of Level 5, while Eiji had just reached Level 5, with all his stats presumably at zero.
Against a typical newly-advanced Level 5 adventurer, Bete's strength would have given him an overwhelming advantage in the first clash—not like now, where he hadn't gained even the slightest edge.
He had to get serious!
Bete took a deep breath, then abruptly held it.
Whoosh—!
In an instant, he swung his legs, transforming into a gust of wind as he began sprinting around the courtyard.
This wasn't just ordinary running—with every step, he was building momentum.
If a high-ranking adventurer had been present, they would have been shocked to see his figure rapidly blurring until even his shadow vanished!
The entire courtyard was soon engulfed in swirling dust and debris.
This was Bete's full-speed sprint!
His agility was S-rank at Level 5, making him the fastest in his tier.
Not only that, but he also possessed two speed-boosting skills: Fenris Wolf and Solmani!
With both skills active, his speed could surpass even Level 5, rivaling most Level 6 adventurers!
Within Loki Familia, he was undisputedly the fastest!
Amid the howling gale, a black shadow broke free from the whirlwind, launching a flying kick straight at Eiji.
With such extreme speed behind it, the force of Bete's kick was immense!
The sheer power of that strike alone felt unstoppable—even a typical Level 5, let alone a berserker like Tiona, would have had no choice but to retreat.
Yet Eiji still showed no intention of moving.
He crossed his twin swords in front of him, blocking Bete's full-powered strike head-on.
BOOM!
A deafening impact reverberated throughout Twilight Manor.
A crushing force surged through the blades, as if trying to flatten him like a collapsing mountain.
But Eiji simply sank his stance, his legs bending like drawn bows, his body flowing like water to disperse the force—channeling all of it into the ground through his feet, shattering the stone tiles into a spiderweb of cracks.
"What?!"
Bete's eyes widened.
He could even block a full-powered kick like that?!
"What was that?!"
"Where did that explosion come from?!"
Commotion erupted from the spires all around.
The thunderous noise had jolted the Familia members awake from their sleep.
"Shall we continue?"
Eiji, still unmoved, calmly met the gaze of the werewolf youth right before him.
"Of course!"
Bete withdrew his leg, leaping back before resuming his sprint around the courtyard.
"A fight isn't over until one side falls! Your defense is impressive, but if you can't match my speed, you'll never beat me!"
That's right.
Speed was what Bete had the most confidence in. As long as he had overwhelming speed, he would never be at a disadvantage!
"I see, so that's what you think."
Eiji nodded in understanding.
"In that case, I'll just surpass your speed."
Huh?
What was this guy saying?
Bete couldn't immediately process the statement, finding it laughable in his heart.
As a werewolf, he was naturally adept at speed. Combined with having reached the limit of agility and the boost from his dual skills, he had achieved such godly speed that placed him at the very top of all Orario. How could anyone surpass him so easily?
But the next instant.
Eiji's figure suddenly vanished from before his eyes.
