The Academy Assassin

Chapter 18: Chapter 17: The Escape

Lysandra sprinted through the darkness, her heart pounding against her chest, adrenaline surging through her veins. She tightly gripped the recorder, acutely aware that what she had captured was vital evidence needed to bring down the Order of the Black Rose. The cacophony of spells being hurled and the shouts of Order members chasing after her echoed in her ears, but she never dared to look back.

Inside the academy, Caspian fought valiantly against the members of the Order, his determination unwavering despite the pressure. He knew he had to buy time for Lysandra to escape, but every move he made was a reminder of the weight he carried from his past. Turning to face a group of attackers, Caspian deflected spells and counterattacked with his own magic.

"Go!" he yelled to Lysandra over the din. "Don't look back!"

Lysandra hesitated for a moment, but the urgency in Caspian's voice propelled her forward. She knew she needed to get the evidence to someone who could help—someone who could expose the truth about the Order.

She raced toward the academy's back gate, recalling a secret exit from her magic classes. With a determined shove, she pushed through the door and into the cold night beyond.

Outside, Lysandra took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing heart. The darkness enveloped the academy grounds, but she knew she couldn't stop. She needed to find a safe place where she could analyze the recordings and plan her next move.

As she moved away from the academy, she heard footsteps behind her. Turning quickly, she saw a familiar figure—it was Mia, her friend.

"Lysandra!" Mia exclaimed breathlessly. "I saw you leaving! What is going on?"

"It's complicated," Lysandra replied in a rush. "The Order is mobilizing; Caspian is inside fighting them, and I need to get this to someone who can help."

Mia frowned, concern etched on her face. "You can't face this alone! Let's go together."

Lysandra hesitated but recognized that having Mia by her side could be an advantage. "Okay," she agreed. "Let's head to the director's office. He needs to know what's happening."

The two friends ran through the forest surrounding the academy, avoiding illuminated paths and sticking to the shadows. Fear and adrenaline propelled them as they made their way toward the director's office.

With each step they took, Lysandra felt a mix of hope and dread. They were racing against time, and every moment counted as they sought to expose the dark secrets lurking within the Order of the Black Rose.
