The Apocalyptic Command: A Military Isekai LitRPG

Chapter 56: The Hunt Continues

After checking the carcass in the inventory, confirming that it was there, he pulled the interface back and continued on his way. While walking down the forest floor with firm and easy steps, he shifted his body and arms into a more comfortable position and lowered his firearm into a resting position. He has been holding it for a long time already. Thus, he needs to rest, even if it is for a little bit.

He had stashed the bolt-action rifle again a while ago because if an emergency came and he needed to shoot immediately, it would make more sense if he were to use a pistol first. Because it is easier to raise and fire when it is in a rifle, which has a larger and longer body, and would require far more adjustments, and could potentially risk losing out on precious time in a fight, especially in a long-range battle.

So with that in mind, and a pistol in a resting position, he proceeded further into the forest. When a few moments passed, he brought up the interface from the adjutant and browsed over the map that had been scanned earlier for resources. Now he is just using it as an overall map of the area he was in, and he has it reedited for location marks so he can use it for personal and military matters. Once he reached the edge of the current discovered map, and beyond it are now uncharted.

While overlooking the edge and uncharted land before him, he felt ominous about it. The reason is that he does not want to end up surrounded by a lot of ghouls in an unfamiliar environment. He'd only recently discovered how incredibly lucky he was for the past few weeks. He was always one step away from death's door.

He breezed through the entire ordeal through adrenaline and willpower alone; if he had cowered in fear, he would not be in this position. This is why, despite having immunity and all these boons and benefits for him, He must still take care of his life and health; after all, if he died, then all would be pointless. If he could avoid it by just being a bit cautious, it would be more than enough. Upon observing the edge, Quagmire turned to his side and proceeded to scout the remaining part of his territory for some game and to finally earn some gold buckets.

He walked a bit farther when suddenly he heard a loud, disturbing shriek from some faraway location. Confused he was, but remains ready at the moment's notice. He glanced from side to side, trying to look for information that could give away what was happening around him.

When he found nothing, he concluded that the sound may have come from a very far away place. But before that, he hid himself in a bush, with the weapon still in a resting position. Upon concluding that there were no ghouls at close distance, he brought his face away from the bush and activated his eagle's eye.

With a single thought despite its clear limitations, he was able to use the eagle's eye, which should've been only activated in a state of conflict. He zoomed further in and further, as he attempted to find the source of the noise. Upon a few more moments, he was able to confirm the location and grinned.

Apparently, there were three cows, or rather two bulls and one cow. The two bulls were fighting over for the female. Well congrats to them, as they would now be lunch for him.

With his targets confirmed. He brought out the bolt-action rifle and made quick strides to get closer to his intended target. Once he was a few dozen of meters from his target, he quickly realigned his body, shortened his breath and focused his mighty eyes into the sights.

His breathing became slower, as adrenaline was flushed back into his system that should have been cleared long ago. Now it was back again. This might become a traumatic experience for him, but who cares? He had been that way since he was young, and nobody really can stop him. Moreover, he has the soul and past of a living soldier, who have already encountered so much death.

Thus, with that, he firstly targeted the female, which would antagonize the two bulls, which was what started in the first place. This would make the bulls rather confused and angry, during which would make sure they were blinded by anger, and not realize they have been led into a definite trap.

He adjusted his sights, and when he was ready, he rested his fingers back into the trigger. With a deep breath and moment of thinking, he decisively pulled the trigger. The front came a blazing as it spewed out the bullet. With a zipping sound in the air, it passed and penetrated through its very resistance, and could be seen all over.

The bullet, as it moves at incredible speed, made a whistle until it found its target. The Cow's head was pierced and through it a river of blood gushed out. With its mighty brain pierced and gurgling in its own blood, it fell down to the ground lifelessly.

With a baffled expression, the bulls made way to the female cow. Upon seeing the dead body of the cow, they finally lost their sanity. Thankfully, they were about a few dozen of meters away from each other, so with a quick alignment of movements. He was able to have another round in the chamber, which he promptly pulled the trigger for.

The sound was a loud crackling, as its bones get penetrated and broken into millions of pieces, with that another bulls lays down dead. Enraged by what happened to his rival, the bull charged even faster. This time with its horns pointed at its adversary. Full intent on taking out Quagmire.

The last bull charged relentlessly. Unfortunately, with his advantageous position, he chambered another round and fired again. With it, the bull drew its breath its last and fell to the ground, at the very front of him.
