The Asshai's Bloodmage

Chapter 99: Natural treasures

Now that we had joined the Alliance, we signed a blood contract to keep some of the group's secrets. It was only then that we discovered how shocking these secrets were. The Adventurers' Alliance had many towers under its control within Asshai. Among these towers, four stood out as very special. Three of them were medium towers and one was large, and they all had something special. In the first medium tower, there was a mutant creature that lived within the biome that, when killed and consumed, would give an effect similar to body refinement. Just as refinements had limits on how many times they could be used and still have some effect, the consumption of this meat also had limits.

And the priority for consumption of this meat was something available to the highest levels of the Alliance. The second item was not actually an item, but rather a type of environment caused by some mutation within a tower. By meditating within a certain floor, it was possible to obtain more powerful meditation effects. The effect was only equivalent to 1.2 of the normal effect, but if used for 5 consecutive days of meditation, it was possible to obtain the equivalent of 6 days of meditation. Most importantly, the meditation time was faster in this place as well.

The third item was the one that caught my attention the most. There was a certain tuber that grew all over the ground of the large tower, and when it was used in a certain potion, it could double the effects of practicing spells for a few days. And this was huge. If I practiced using this potion every day, for example, I could instead of trying to cast spells 3 times, I would try 6 times. In a certain number of years, it would be possible to reduce the learning time of various spells by half.

The last item was called the Fruit of Immortality. Despite having such a flashy name, the effect of this fruit was 20% greater than that of the best longevity potion currently available, and this fruit had no side effects whatsoever. Since perfect immortality of the three professions was something that few could achieve, it had almost become one of the requirements for one to become a Master. Even I had yet to develop such a method, and could only at most change one's external form, and could not completely reverse the body's aging process.

So in the short term, this fruit was also something I desired. Better yet, I needed to ensure that these items could be cultivated in my tower. How could a mere Adventurer's Guild possibly match my cultivation knowledge and my Blood Mage skills from the system? Perhaps they would not be able to cultivate and duplicate the effects of these items, but I should be able to.

Well, I better get my hands on one of these items first, or if I could visit these towers I could get a better look at the surroundings in person. To make sure I did my initial investigations I went to the familiar receptionist who had helped me on my first day. While chatting with her I came up with the questions I really wanted to ask.

"Ah, the treasures of the alliance... Since you are already at rank D, as soon as you complete your first dungeon exploration you will be able to buy the meat and the meditation potion for money. As for the fruit, you will need to reach rank C or even B depending on how many there are per year. But don't worry, you can only consume 1 of these fruits. A second one will have no effect, although adventurers seek a second or third one for their families, so the competition for it is fierce. About the animal, it will die a few days after leaving the tower environment, the fruit of immortality only grows on a specific floor, and the entire floor has already been used only to grow as many trees as possible. The same goes for the tuber, but it already grows on all floors of the tower and there is enough for all our mages to use. There is also a quest with a huge reward if you can grow these items in other towers..."

Basically there is something that keeps the creature alive inside the tower, the fact that it doesn't say anything about the Calamity must mean that its death has nothing to do with it, just Could it mean that there is something in the air of the tower then? Interesting, this proves that only I can figure this out, maybe it is something in the air?

The second point is the fact that the tuber spreads throughout the entire tower, but they can't duplicate it, again proving that there is something in the soil, in the air or even a combination of both. There may be something involving magic, but even I know that magic can at most provide something that the environment needs. I learned this in the classes on growing special plants, and then I read a lot about this subject since it involves my personal studies in alchemy and Blood Magic. The biggest problem is the tree of immortality, it can only be grown on 1 floor of the tower. I have no idea what causes such an effect, the question remains as to how they tried to grow it, I will have to start from scratch in all the research.

In the end I just ask if anyone has studied these items in depth and can give me a research direction and the receptionist gives me a name. I can talk to this person to avoid wasting time on certain research. In the end I look at these quests and decide to test it with the tuber first, I just accept the quest, I don't have time right now. The reason is that I need to go to the Mage's Throat today without fail, we are finally about to reach the laboratory of the former Master of this dungeon...

On the last upper floor of the Mage's Throat, we were disarming the final traps in front of a certain door, after deactivating a very complicated soul-type trap, our Necromancer finally gives a nod. Our leader Asimov is with us this time, everyone wields their weapons and prepares themselves, I put on a plague mask to avoid any disease that may be inside, some do the same thing as me and others seem to trust their own means. The door is finally opened, and we enter a dark laboratory, the lights are mostly broken and some are flickering, perhaps due to the lack of power. It doesn't take long for us to see something that puts everyone on alert, in the middle of the laboratory next to a destroyed cage there is a corpse in luxurious clothes... Definitely the former owner of this tower...
