Chapter 379: Duel between Two Aces! (II)
In the next few minutes, everyone witnessed how the game turned into complete chaos. While Konan High relied on Lucas to score and keep the score gap between the two teams wide enough, Nitta from Kyoei Gakuen also kept his performance on top, fighting tooth and nail to return every blow his team received from the Brazilian boy.
For a moment, it was hard to follow what happened on the court, what with how quickly the possession changed. However, this was what the supporters were paying their money for, to witness a blood-boiling battle with a fierce confrontation between the aces of both teams.
"Come on, Lucas! Don't lose to that Bastard!"
"Choke him! Stab him! Kill him!"
"Oi, Monkey! Stop hopping around like that! You just convince us that you really are a monkey!"
The insult thrown at Nitta kept getting worse, yet it also made the boy's blood boil in enthusiasm. Just by looking at this game alone, everyone would think that Nitta was born to be a real villain in this sport.
Unfortunately, the same excitement couldn't be shared with the other Kyoei Gakuen players. It was clear that they had a hard time trying to stop Lucas's wave of offense, and Nitta's crazy performance also had some sort of drawback for them. To let their ace concentrate the most, they decided to release him from any other job so that he could focus on attacking, and that meant they had to cover the spot left by the ace here.
Fortunately, Nitta did a good job repaying that favor, or all of his teammates would go berserk at him.
"Come on, Take! It is your turn to shine!"

The game continued, and since Lucas managed to score in the last play, Konan High had to go for another rotation, and this time, it was Akihiro's turn to serve. The freshman middle blocker took a deep breath, trying to calm his nerves before tossing the ball in the air. It was pretty rare for a middle blocker to be able to pull out a good jump serve, so for Akihiro to have one in his arsenal was definitely a massive boost for his team. Unfortunately, while it had a great power, the accuracy was off, going straight to Aki who was the defensive specialist in Kyoei's side.
BAM!
"Good job, Aki!"
"Yamada! Give me one!"
All the Konan blockers tensed when they watched Nitta make a move. Akihiro who just served the ball also rushed forward immediately to reinforce the front line. They were determined to stop Nitta's attack this time, embarrassed after letting out the opponent's ace wreaking havoc for too long.
Facing three blockers in front of him, Nitta didn't have any hesitation on his face. He just bulldozed his way through everything, intending to tear apart the line of blockers in front of him. He was a man on a mission here, wanting to prove that the best team in the country couldn't stop him at all.
However, what he didn't expect was for the three blockers to turn into four. Lucas who a second ago was still on the back rushed immediately, closing down the wall right in the area where Nitta was going to hit. He did it at the last moment, preventing Nitta from avoiding him.
'Well, not like I want to. If he really wants to stop me, let's see if he can do it!'
BAM!
Some of the people there winced unconsciously at how loud the sound of the impact was. However, Lucas stood still, didn't even bulge from that. The wall he erected worked perfectly, softening the blow to give his teammates a chance to fight back.
"One chance!"
"I got this!"
Matsumoto managed to save the ball before it could go too far, sending it back to the court where Sawada was rushing to catch up. Nitta himself clicked his tongue in annoyance. Still, no matter how much he hated it, he had to admit that Lucas was an amazing player. It wasn't often for him to see anyone not even flinching when he was about to attack, and the fact that his spike couldn't get through the Brazilian boy's wall told him how strong Lucas was. Or how good his pain tolerance was.
Still, he knew the play wasn't over yet.
When Nitta saw Lucas had already recovered and was ready to join the counterattack, he gritted his teeth and forced his body to move, his eyes locking in on Lucas's movement. Since he couldn't kill the Brazilian boy with his attack, of course, he wanted to return the favor and did the same.
It seemed Lucas also noticed him, and with a small smirk on his face, Konan's ace raised his hand and shouted, "NOBU! GIVE IT TO ME!"
Sawada was taken aback for a moment since this was the first time Lucas asked for the ball in this set. Before this, the ace would always follow his arrangement and not complain when he didn't send the ball there, which flattered the setter a bit. Just for that, Sawada decided to reward his senpai's patience with complete trust and the best pass he could send, letting the ace fight in his own way.
"Ha! That is what I have been waiting for! Come here, Bastard!"
Time seemed to freeze for a moment as everyone witnessed two aces fly in the air, ready to fight. The sound of breathes hitched could be heard from all over the building as everyone knew this was going to determine the direction of this set. Whoever managed to win would send a huge blow to the opponent, and that was the risk those two had to bear in this aerial contest.
What those two and anyone there didn't expect, though, was the fact that someone suddenly decided to join the fun, rushing from the back row and jumping, reinforcing the wall Nitta had already set. Lucas who was too focused on the challenge in front of him widened his eyes in surprise when he saw this. Unfortunately, he had already swung his arms here, not being able to adjust at the last moment. As a result…
BAM!
The ball bounced back to Konan's side as it hit the new wall coming from behind. A pin-drop silence fell on the building as all eyes turned to Kyoei's reinforcement, just to see the blonde boy who was Konan's nightmare in the first half smirking at Lucas infuriatingly.
"You guys can have fun on your own as much as you like, but please, don't forget that I exist, okay?"
