The Blessed Farm Girl Has a Spatial Storage

Chapter 96: Goji Berries

The two good friends, having not seen each other for a day, seemed to have a lot to say to each other. So, along the way, they chatted nonstop, recounting the interesting things that happened to them yesterday.

However, as Zhao Zhitong listened to Qiao Muchen's voice, she furrowed her brows. His voice sounded a little different than usual today, with a slight nasal tone. Despite this, she thought it still sounded rather pleasant.

ACHOO!

At this moment, Qiao Muchen turned around and sneezed twice in a row.

Zhao Zhitong immediately looked at him with a sudden realization, exclaiming, "Ah, Qiao Jiaojiao, you have a cold!"

"Cold?" Qiao Muchen sniffled, his voice sounding even more nasal.

He did indeed have a cold and had just taken his medicine earlier.

However, he was afraid that Zhao Zhitong would ridicule him for being weak, so he stubbornly replied, "No, my body is much healthier now; I won't catch a cold."

Zhao Zhitong looked unconvinced. "You obviously have a cold!"

Qiao Muchen stubbornly insisted, "No, I don't!"

Zhao Zhitong persisted, "Yes, you do have a cold; I'm a physician!"

Qiao Muchen's face flushed red, but he still wouldn't admit it. "You've only just learned about medicinal herbs; you're not a physician. I'm not sick!"

In the end, he huffed, "I'm not talking to you anymore!" With that, he jogged off towards the classroom.

Zhao Zhitong pouted in annoyance. "Hmph! Fine, don't talk to me then, you meanie! You definitely have a cold; you can't fool me. I'm going to be the best physician in the future!" Afterward, she ran off to the Teacher's residence.

A few steps later, she suddenly remembered something. She took down the luggage box, opened the wrapped goji berries, divided them in half, and put one portion back into the box, while the other was given to the Teacher at his residence.

Scholar Meng looked at the paper package in his hand, somewhat puzzled. "Young girl, what is this?"

Zhao Zhitong blinked. "Teacher, these are goji berries I picked today as a gift for you. You can sun-dry them on the windowsill and then soak them in water to drink; it will help you live a long and healthy life!"

Hearing the little girl's soft, childish voice, Scholar Meng was initially taken aback but then stroked his beard and laughed heartily. "Alright, I appreciate your kind intentions. I'll accept it. Now, you better hurry off to school."

After bidding farewell to the Teacher, Zhao Zhitong jogged back to the classroom.

At this moment, Qiao Muchen was sitting in his seat, occasionally glancing towards the doorway. When he saw Zhao Zhitong come in, he quickly propped up a book to cover his face, secretly watching her. Shortly after, he saw Zhao Zhitong happily take her seat. He then began to contemplate whether or not he should apologize to her.

Just then, Zhao Zhitong suddenly held out a paper package. Following that, she said, "This is for you. They're goji berries. Drink soup or water boiled with them to boost your immunity. That way, you won't catch a cold again."

Qiao Muchen instantly felt even more ashamed. It was clearly his fault, yet Zhao Zhitong wasn't angry with him and had even given him goji berries.

So, without any hesitation, he put down the book, took the goji berries, and sincerely apologized, "Tongtong, I'm sorry; I shouldn't have yelled at you and said you weren't a physician. You will surely become the best physician in the world."

Zhao Zhitong considered herself a magnanimous and kind-hearted child. And now that Qiao Muchen had affirmed she would surely become the best physician in the world, she generously forgave him with a wave of her hand. Furthermore, she generously invited him to go pick goji berries together after school.

"Is it this one?" Qiao Muchen pointed to the small red fruit in his hand.

Zhao Zhitong nodded emphatically. "Mhm, mhm, mhm, that's the one. Let's pick more of these. When they're dried, we can soak them in water or add them to meat soup. They can boost your immunity so you won't catch a cold."

Qiao Muchen, not understanding, asked, "What's immunity?"

Zhao Zhitong pursed her lips and thought for a moment. "Well, it's like an army in our bodies that fights against diseases. If we catch a cold, they come out to help us defeat it. But sometimes, they might not be strong enough. Goji berries can enhance their abilities and help you overcome the cold."

This novel explanation left Qiao Muchen with his mouth wide open in disbelief. "Wow, you mean there's an army inside us? What do they look like?"

Zhao Zhitong was silent too. She hadn't seen them either. Grandpa Bai must have, though. After all, he was the one who had explained this to her. So, she went to ask him.

While stroking his beard with a smile, Grandpa Bai said, "Immunity, huh? That's a modern medical concept. I can try to explain it to you, but you might not understand. Inside every person's body, there's an immune system that works for immune surveillance, defense, and regulation. This system consists of immune organs, immune cells…"

Before Grandpa Bai could finish, Teacher arrived, so they quickly sat down to listen to his lesson. Zhao Zhitong and Grandpa Bai made a promise: after school, he would finish telling her about immunity.

As the lesson began, Zhao Zhitong instantly sat up straight and attentive.

But Qiao Muchen had caught a cold. He wasn't very energetic during the class, and when the class was dismissed, his face became flushed, and he was feverish. Teacher took him straight home. Zhao Zhitong and Wei Shulan followed them.

Once back home, Qiao Muchen lay down on the bed, feeling so miserable that he cried. He felt like such a failure, always catching colds, unable to attend Teacher's lessons, and unable to play with his friends. Thus, he shed tears of self-pity.

Mother Qiao also wiped away tears at the sight of this. She had always been strong, never shedding a tear even when she was bullied by people from the Chu family. Her son was her weak spot.

Mother Qiao's real name was Chu Ziling. Her mother's family were wealthy merchants. When the Qiao Clan fell on hard times, she had considered returning to her family for protection. However, her own mother had passed away, and her stepmother now controlled the Chu family. Without her birth mother's protection, her half-brothers wouldn't shelter her. Instead, they had their eyes set on her dowry. As a weak woman, she'd endured the scheming of those devils and demons. Finally, she'd resolutely taken Qiao Muchen to a remote countryside.

Now, seeing Qiao Muchen lying on the bed with a feverish red face, Mother Qiao felt like her legs were about to buckle.

Soon after, Sun Kang hurried over frantically.

Zhao Zhitong didn't leave but instead watched her grandfather diagnose Qiao Muchen from the side.

Fortunately, the situation wasn't too serious. He had caught a cold due to catching a chill. Grandfather left a prescription, and Old Lady Qian immediately took it to the county town to get the medicine.

As Zhao Zhitong had a class in the afternoon, she had to return to school. Thus, after staying by Qiao Muchen's bedside for a while, she prepared to leave. Before she left, Zhao Zhitong instructed, "Be brave! Your cold will be gone soon, and I'll come to visit you after school."

Not long after Zhao Zhitong left, Old Lady Qian returned with the medicine. She had rushed straight to the county town with a bullock cart, so her round trip was quick.

Once the medicine had arrived, Mother Qiao immediately went to decoct it. After Qiao Muchen drank the medicine and took a nap, during which he sweated profusely, he felt much more relaxed.

As he lay on the bed, staring at the mosquito net and lost in thought, Qiao Muchen suddenly turned his head and called out, "Mom! Mom, bring me my luggage box!"
