Chapter 104: Volume 1 Chapter 104: Torturing Prisoners
Combat often comes with risks. Especially when facing an unknown opponent, the more skilled you are, the higher your chances of survival.
Ascalon isn't a pure assassin; she's better described as a martial artist. So, even if she didn't kill her opponent at first sight, she wouldn't retreat easily. But now, Ascalon knew she had made a mistake.
The lizard-like creature before her was no easy foe.
They had hunted even dragons with wingspans exceeding twenty meters in their homeland's heat, but this Lizardman surpassed those dragons in threat.
A crimson gleam scattered the surrounding dust as Ascalon drew two daggers, blocking the blood-red light rushing toward her. But in doing so, she was fully exposed to the Lizardman in front of her.
"I've got you!"
Garde grinned viciously, charging toward Ascalon like a heavily-armored tank, creating a deafening roar. As Ascalon hung suspended in mid-air, she had no way to dodge.
Whizz!
An arrow tore through the air, and Garde punched it right as it came toward him. But he hadn't anticipated that the bolt aimed at him was no ordinary arrow but one equipped with explosive originium.
Boom!
The sudden explosion stalled Garde's advance on Ascalon, but it didn't matter!
As he paused, he hurled his massive axe.
Garde was sure that, while his opponent was agile, her body wasn't strong enough to withstand a direct hit.
Yet, as Garde's axe flew, Ascalon performed an unexpected maneuver.
She angled her daggers perfectly and twisted her body at the moment of impact.
Her shadow seemed like a hand pulling her downward, allowing her to avoid being split in two by Garde.
Thud!
Landing, Ascalon flicked her coat open, revealing a row of sharp daggers on the inside. She swiped her palm over them, sending a dozen daggers flying toward Garde.
This attack, of course, didn't faze Garde, but Ascalon's goal was only to support her comrade from the other side. The daggers collided with arrows flying from behind, triggering a chain of ricochets that formed a line in mid-air.
These arrows weren't targeting Garde directly but the buildings around him. On closer inspection, thin lines, finer than metal threads, trailed from each arrow.
In the split second that Garde hesitated, dozens of arrows, aided by the daggers, shattered into fragments and embedded themselves into various surrounding structures. The fine threads wove around Garde like a spiderweb, trapping him.
Each line from the arrows was strong enough to withstand the force of a speeding sand cruiser without snapping immediately.
All they needed was a single moment!
Just one moment to control this Lizardman!
Ascalon picked up a dagger from the ground, rushed forward, and aimed at Garde's eyes.
No matter how strong a creature is, the eyes are always a weak spot!
But to strike a Lizardman in the eye, would she first need to get past that gaping maw?
Rip!
Garde opened his mouth wide, biting through all the lines entangling him in a single snap.
Since Ascalon was hidden in the shadows before, Garde couldn't capture her directly. But now, with her out in the open...
"You little mouse hiding in the shadows, how dare you appear right in front of me?" Garde sneered, stretching out his hand, gripping the air.
"Ruthless Predator!"
Even Gladiia, known for her speed, couldn't evade Garde's grasp; Ascalon, who was slower, stood no chance of escaping his skill.
As Ascalon charged toward him, she suddenly felt her body freeze, as if she were throwing herself into his clutches.
Garde's massive hand seized her, fingers pressing against her chest, flattening it under his grasp.
The tremendous force caused her to cough up blood, and with one hand, Garde brought her face close to his own.
"A Sarkaz?" he asked, tilting his head to observe her.
He noticed her horns and slender tail, confirming she was not only Sarkaz but also a striking beauty.
His gaze shifted to Ascalon's status screen, which briefly appeared in his view:

'A woman from Babel?'
Garde recognized Babel, knowing that Kal'tsit was its second-in-command. However, that didn't give him a reason to show mercy.
"Woman, why did you attack me?" he asked in fluent Sarkaz, surprising Ascalon, who briefly froze as she heard her mother tongue from this Lizardman.
With growing impatience, Garde scowled at her stunned face. "My patience is limited. If you can't give me a satisfactory answer, I don't mind making you pay for your recklessness." As he spoke, he opened his massive mouth wide enough to bite off her head in one snap.
But instead, he leaned in, placing half of her head between his teeth, and his tongue grazed her face.
Garde continued, savoring this "new toy" by gripping Ascalon's head in his mouth, playfully licking her like a lollipop.
Oblivious to his actions as prisoner abuse, Garde didn't notice Ascalon's initial struggle until she could barely resist anymore.
"Just. kill. me."
