The Chaebols Are Back

Chapter 30: C30

Daehyun Group Chairman's Office.

"Really? Is that so?"

What Chairman Kim Byeong-cheol was aware of was something Chairman Wang of Daehyun Group could not help but know as well.

"Sure. It's a $500 million loan."

"Your Majesty, you've come into a lot of money."

Chairman Wang's eyes are brimming with anticipation.

"yes?"

"You are the one who built the Gyeongbu Expressway even though the country didn't have any money."

Daehyun Group Chairman Wang is confident that a magnificent civil engineering project will begin.

"Oh, right."

"Yeah, get the idiot in, idiot."

"Do you mean Manager Lee Hyeong-bak of Daehyun Construction?"

Lee Hyeong-bak of Daehyun Construction is a manager, and Daehyun Group's Chairman Wang calls him a "fool" because he sometimes spaces out. Of course, after spacing out, he sometimes has genius ideas.

"Yeah, dog."

It was Daehyun Group Chairman Wang who cried him out dog.

"Yes, I see."

"And the president of construction."

"Yes, Chairman."

"How is the task that I told you to undertake proceeding?"

On inquiry from Chairman Wang, Daehyun Construction President frowned immediately.

"What's the look?"

"I apologize, Mr. Chairman."

"What is it?"

"When I was about to purchase land in Gangnam secretly in someone's name on the chairman's orders, I was summoned by the Security Service."

"Security Service?"

Daehyun Group Chairman Wang's face turned ludicrous.

"Yes, the chief of the Security Command staff cautioned not to insert your spoon carelessly into the land to be developed for national development.".

Once the Gangnam flood control project was completed and no more flooding, the Blue House planned to restart the Gangnam development project forthwith.

So Gangnam was soon to become a gold mine.

Daehyun Group Chairman Wang, who knew this, was planning to focus on land speculation rather than the flood control business, but Lee Seong-su, who also knew this, tried to stop his father from the speculation.

"Hak-ku security command's staff officer? This guy, is he like?"

"I am the newly promoted troop. I knew that he was called by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is claiming that Secretary Lee Seong-su, the president's secretary, is his nephew."

"Awesome, this man.".

Daehyun Group Chairman Wang began to feel more interested in Lee Seong-su after learning that there was someone who was more ambitious than him.

'I thought he was no ordinary guy when he tried to extort 5 million dollars from me, hahaha!'

It was Chairman Wang of Daehyun Group who was feeling strange.

"Okay, so what?"

"I can't bring myself to buy it."

"Because you're afraid of the Security Command's threats?"

"sorry."

The Security Command was a place where anybody might dread to be.

"I guess I'll have to see Lee Seong-su in order to settle that matter, damn it, hahaha!"

Khomeini's safe house, January 19, 1972.

"Are you having a hard time?"

Needless to say that exile life is arduous and pesky.

'Meeting Khomeini.'

I spent a million dollars in order to sit in this seat.

More than $100,000 was spent by Algerian Islamists within France in an effort to locate Khomeini.

He also needed to pay more than $300,000 for connections with Iranian-French immigrants.

And after bribing the security guard of Khomeini with $300,000, he could only sit before Khomeini.

'In the end, it's the dollar that counts, not religious beliefs.'

Iran's Shiite religious leader Khomeini was constantly on guard and in fear of assassination because he was being targeted by the Iranian secret police, but the clandestine conference was arranged out of throwing dollars.

[Will you invite exile Khomeini, a religious leader in France, to Korea?]

Why did Khomeini, who was then in exile in France after the Iranian Revolution, become the supreme leader of Iran?

'That is his motivation.'

In common parlance, you learn to read the trends.

It is a matter of being capable of stirring the public.

'A man who is deeply religious!'

They make men into prophets.

Obey the prophet.

[If Your Majesty permits me, I will.] [I had planned to meet the old man from the beginning.] [As I have mentioned, Korea is a barren land of Islam. France, on the other hand, has relatively many exiles, mostly Algerian and Iranian immigrants who are Muslims.] [There are no such people in Korea?] [I will be alone and single as an Imam. I will die alone and be a martyr. I will become a scorpion in the desert for Your Majesty.] [Hahaha, he is indeed a faithful messenger who does good. I permit you to meet him.]

"Inshallah."

As a Muslim, Khomeini's greeting was only "Inshallah."

Even when he was in exile in France, it seemed that he felt a sense of justice that even that was Allah's will.

"Aren't you afraid that you might be assassinated while in exile?"

"If Allah wills to keep me by his side, then it must be Allah's will."

Khomeini's advisor interpreted for me.

The fact that I'm sitting in front of the Imam has brought him closer to God."

Khomeini raised an eyebrow for a split second when he heard the translation from his assistant.

I saw my interpreter employed separately one time.

My interpreter made sure Khomeini's group word for word translated what I said.

My employed interpreter nodded to me.

'The translation is done correctly.'

In looking for a traitor, look for him closest to you.

This had to be so.

"What do you mean?" he says.

"It was hard for me to get here, and it cost me some money. But even a foreigner like me was finally able to sit before the Imam. It means that the Shah of Iran can send anyone without much trouble if he wants to, just like me."

My own words were literally translated by Khomeini's interpreter.

Now you must be suspicious of your intimate friends."

There is a Korean proverb that says even a ghost without doubt is created.

So now I just can't help but get more nervous.

"Inshallah, too."

Khomeini looked at me with a kindly smile and muttered:

'Anxiety and fear are created from within.'

Humans smile in an effort to cover it up.

"If the Imam leaves us for Allah, to whom will the Iranian people turn and have confidence? There is no more real will of Allah in Iran."

"Why does the young Korean say that to me?"

Khomeini will wonder why I have visited him unexpectedly.

When I approached his entourage with dollars, I presented myself and said that I had to meet Khomeini.

His close associates should have reported these facts to Khomeini, and it was Khomeini himself who finally consented to meet me.

"Historically, Korea and Iran have good relations."

One of the dynasties established on the Korean Peninsula is Silla.

Iran is the successor of Persia.

"What do you mean by that?"

When I suddenly said history, Khomeini expressed his suspicion.

There was Silla, a state, on the Korean Peninsula, and there was great Persia in current Iran. The two countries helped each other, traded with each other, and became friendly from then on.

It is uncertain, but it is supposed that Cheoyong in Cheoyongga is Persian.

"so?"

"One of the Persian princes came to Silla, was named Cheoyong, and was highly honored.".

Cheoyong married in Silla and possessed a wife.

There is one among many interpretations of Cheoyongga, that Cheoyong was Persian.

According to that interpretation, Cheoyongga is Cheoyong lamenting that his Silla wife was abducted by a Silla man and that he could not do anything since he was dependent on Silla.

'What if Cheoyong were powerful?'

I would have cut off the other two legs covering the same blanket.

"What on earth are you attempting to say?"

Now, the punchline.

"I would like to invite the wise Imam to Korea."

I had the interpreter interpret what I had said.

Khomeini's eyes grew absurd.

Imam, you don't know anything about Korea, but Korea is a desert for Shia Islam. That is why we call a wise Imam to spread the great will of Allah."

I can't say that it's good for the future of Korea that I'm making.

But for now, I think it's the right thing to do.

'Because we're preparing for 8 years from now instead of the future.'

If, as I have set out, Korean and American oil companies can explore and develop a giant oil field in Block 7, which is South Korea's maritime area, excluding Japan within 8 years, then there will be no place for Iran or Khomeini.

But will the development of offshore oil fields be smooth?

And it will not be easy for an American energy company to turn a blind eye to Japan and shake hands with the Korean government, or rather, with a private energy group I formed that is sanctioned by the Korean government.

So, Khomeini is an eight-year stepping stone and insurance.

"Is it the Taliban?"

The future people will shudder at the mention of the Taliban, but today's Taliban are students.

I am speaking of a student reading the Quran without mix.

'The purest thing.'

As you get defiled, you are being most cruel and commercial.

"I am studying the Quran and pursuing the course of studies."

Liars spit them out freely even without brushing saliva from the lips.

'I have studied the Quran.'

The current move that I might now take would just as well be sending a contaminated cup of chalice to the upcoming Republic of Korea.

"It's wonderful and new."

Illam, I was seeing the Shah of Iran yesterday as a Korean ambassador."

Khomeini is the guy who immediately gains the impression that I'm gaining.

'There must be a source in Iran.'

Even though the Internet was not yet in existence during this time, this news could have been conveyed to Khomeini within two weeks or a month.

"so?"

It seems the King of Iran has lost the trust of all his people, even the religious ones.

When the people turn against those in authority, a revolution is created.

Or else a traitor who pretends he's doing the people's bidding stages a coup.

'That's what Korea did.'

Even if there exists a president who is absolutely sympathetic towards me, he is nothing but someone who toppled the government through force of arms according to the desire of the people.

'dictator!'

The truth must never be trivialized or overstated.

"Because he is a being who has abandoned the doctrine."

I thought that since I had lost faith, I might make an extreme decision. Thus, in the interest of the Imam's safety, I have to go to a desert of Islam where the influence of the Shah of Iran can be exercised no more. As you see, even a foreigner like me came to see the Imam.

It is obvious that Khomeini's position has been disclosed.

And the same will happen again.

'This is the butterfly effect.'

At least no one knows what situation might happen in Khomeini's life in the future.

"What will be the benefit to you and Korea if you take me to Korea?"

"Faith will always triumph and justice will be served."

There is no need to talk about material benefits.

"What can I do with you when I go to a country called Korea?"

Khomeini may have chosen France when he went into exile because it had many Muslims of Algerian origin among the European countries.

Was it Egypt first?

I know that Khomeini did not choose France first as his place of exile.

"If you sow the seeds of Islam in Korea, a wasteland of Islam, wouldn't you become a pioneer? And you will also be guaranteed safety."

Following my suggestion, Khomeini remained silent for a moment.

I too paused for a moment, as if to give Khomeini more time to think, before continuing.

"I am not requesting that you go with me right away. Think it over well. Is not all Inshallah? If Allah wills, the Imam will be in Korea."

What God cannot do, the Central Intelligence Agency special agents who were dispatched to France will do.

What does this accomplish?

It is said that he will instill fear, terror and suspicion among his close entourage.

"Inshallah, if God wills it."

"That will be."

Having answered, I pushed the leather satchel towards Khomeini.

"What?"

"Ihsan also is Inshallah."

There is one million dollars in the leather satchel.

How many wigs would the Korean government have to make and sell to make $1 million?

It's really a waste of money.

Now it must be rewritten like this.

'If you receive money, your heart will follow.'

Later, when Khomeini is Iran's supreme leader and I am a real investor, today's $1 million will be hundreds of millions of dollars in oil.

'The oil shock.'

There are first and second stages.

"Then I will return."

Pressing it any harder would have the opposite effect.

"Yes, I hope Allah's grace shines on the young Taliban."

I suppose what is in the leather bag is dollars.
