Chapter 14: Chapter 14: The First Strike
The city always felt colder at night, like it knew what kind of people prowled its streets after dark. I pulled my jacket tighter around me, leaning against the brick wall across from Kross's main distribution hub.
From the outside, it looked like an abandoned factory—rusted gates, shattered windows, graffiti. But beneath that decay, it was a fortress. His drugs moved in and out of here like blood through veins, and if I wanted to hit Kross where it hurt, this was the place to start.
I lit a cigarette, watching as two trucks rolled in, headlights off. Same routine as every night. His men unloading crates, carrying them inside like worker ants, never questioning the poison they pushed into the streets.
I took a slow drag, my mind running through the plan. I couldn't take on all of them head-on, not yet. But if I could disrupt just one shipment—cut a vein, watch him bleed.
My hand drifted to the knife tucked into my belt. Guns made noise. A knife? That was personal.
Movement caught my eye—a figure slipping through the shadows on the other side. At first, I thought it was one of Kross's men, but then the figure turned slightly, and I caught a glimpse of something familiar.
Ghost.
So, he was already making moves.
"Guess I'm not the only one working overtime tonight," I muttered.
For a moment, I debated walking away. Let him do his thing. But then again, two people working separately could get each other killed.
I crushed the cigarette under my boot and stepped out of the shadows.
As I moved closer to the fence, Ghost's head snapped toward me, hand already on his weapon.
"Easy," I whispered, holding up my hands. "You hit this place too?"
Ghost relaxed slightly, though his eyes stayed sharp. "Thought I'd take out a piece of Kross's empire. Didn't expect company."
I smirked. "Well, like it or not, here I am."
He studied me for a long moment, then nodded. "Alright. But we do this my way. Quick, quiet, no hero stunts."
"Fine by me," I said. "Let's show Kross what happens when people like us decide to bite back."
And just like that, we slipped into the night—two ghosts moving toward the heart of the enemy's den.
