Chapter 459: Chapter 458: From a Hero to a Telephone Operator to a Dishwasher (6)
"It feels like there's a strange smell," Sui muttered to himself, frowning as he lay in bed. He brought the quilt closer to his nose and took a sniff. "Maybe I'm overthinking it?"
He was still unsure, feeling as though the blanket had picked up an unusual scent, though nothing seemed particularly out of place.
"Forget it, I don't want to dwell on it."
He lay back down, resting his head on the pillow, when something brushed against his face. Instinctively, he reached up to touch it.
"Huh?"
Between his fingers was a long strand of black hair. Sui frowned in confusion.
'Whose hair is this?'
His own hair wasn't that long, and neither Tohru nor Kanna had black hair.
"That's strange. Maybe it got caught in the quilt while I was drying it yesterday?" Sui mumbled to himself, trying to rationalize it. After all, nothing in the house had gone missing, so it couldn't have been a thief.
And even if someone had broken in, why would they leave a strand of hair on his bed?
He would never have guessed that the culprit behind this little mystery was Utaha, a devious senpai who had recently unlocked her inner nympho.
"Sui, is something wrong?" Tohru's voice cut through his thoughts. She entered the room, wearing pink pajamas and dragging her long tail behind her.
"Uh, nothing," Sui replied casually, tossing the hair aside.
---
Meanwhile, at Utaha's apartment, she had just finished showering. Wrapped snugly in her prize—Sui's coat—she wore nothing underneath except for a pair of white panties.
"This is it... this is the scent," she whispered, her cheeks flushed as she inhaled deeply. Her eyes closed in blissful intoxication, and a soft, shameful laugh escaped her lips. Her legs tightened, the feel of the coat bringing a surge of warmth through her.
"Utaha, remember you have school tomorrow. Go to bed early," her mother's voice called from outside her room.
"Oh, I know," Utaha replied, her voice barely hiding her euphoria. She snuggled deeper into the coat, using it as her makeshift pajamas, then crawled into bed and turned off the lights.
In the darkness, faint giggles could be heard as she drifted into sleep.
---
The next day, Sui was getting ready when he realized something was missing.
"Tohru, have you seen my dark gray coat?" he asked, rummaging through his room.
"Huh? Isn't it here?" Tohru, still lounging on the bed, looked puzzled.
"No, I can't find it anywhere," Sui muttered. "Maybe I left it at Erina's place? But I could've sworn I brought it back yesterday."
Shaking his head, he grabbed another coat and headed out the door.
When Sui arrived at Erina's house, she was already waiting for him downstairs in the living room. The two of them walked to school side by side, unaware of the drama brewing next door.
Later that evening, after Sui and Tohru left for work at their snack bar, Utaha made her move. Like clockwork, she slipped next door, found the hidden key, and let herself into Sui's apartment.
---
Sui's snack bar had become a sensation among food enthusiasts. Despite its modest size, the shop attracted elites from all walks of life—celebrities, politicians, and industry leaders. It had quickly gained a reputation as a culinary destination for those in the know.
But eating at Sui's snack bar wasn't easy. The establishment had switched to a reservation-only system, serving a maximum of 200 guests per day. The entry fee had risen to 100,000 yen, and once that cap was reached, no amount of wealth or influence could get you a seat.
The waiting list now stretched a full month in advance, and ticket prices on the black market had soared to over one million yen—yet demand continued to skyrocket.
Of course, there were those who had tried to strong-arm their way in, but after a yokozuna-level sumo wrestler was tossed out by Tohru with one hand and permanently blacklisted, no one dared to use force again.
On this particular day, the snack bar welcomed a new member to its staff.
"Hello... everyone," Emi greeted quietly, her head bowed. The little tuft of hair on her head seemed to droop with embarrassment, her face flushed.
"Hey! Aren't you the Holy Hero?" Tohru exclaimed in surprise, pointing at her.
"Wait, are you working for Sui now?" Elma added, equally astonished.
Emi's head drooped even lower, shame and humiliation washing over her. Once a hero who had led the charge against the Demon King's castle, she had now fallen to the role of working for him in another world.
'How disgraceful!'
But she had little choice. After all, the salary was too good to pass up.
Sui, seeing her embarrassment, sighed. "How are you going to serve the customers like this?"
"I-I'm sorry," Emi stammered, her face turning even redder.
"It's fine. Just follow me, and you'll learn," Elma reassured her, patting her on the shoulder. She had long since forgotten her original mission in this world, having been thoroughly won over by its culinary delights.
"T-thank you," Emi whispered, grateful for the support.
Sui began introducing the rest of the staff. "I'm the manager. This is Tohru, the cashier and boss lady. And Elma here is a waitress."
When he mentioned Tohru, she proudly puffed out her chest, clearly pleased with her title.
"And this," Sui paused when he got to Kanna, who was lounging on the counter eating candy, "this is the store's lucky cat. She's responsible for looking cute."
"As for you, Emi, you'll be handling dishwashing duties."
Sui looked at her expectantly. "You know how to wash dishes, right?"
Emi's heart sank at the indignity of it all. A brave hero, reduced to a dishwasher? But the thought of earning 8,000 yen per hour quickly quelled her pride.
"I... I know how," she replied softly, swallowing her pride.
