The Emissary of the multiverse

Chapter 8: 8

Drawing a circle on the ground with energy, Matt looked at Jason's body.

He walked over and dragged the corpse into the circle.

Channeling energy through his fingers, Matt traced an Enochian rune onto the mutant zombie's forehead.

After carefully inspecting the rune to make sure it was correct, he turned to Whitney, who was staring wide-eyed.

"Are you going to do that on my forehead too?"

"It's not permanent, and it doesn't have to be on your forehead. It can go anywhere on your body.

The same rune has to be placed on both of you for the spell to work."

"How exactly does this spell work? Can you explain it to me, or is it some hunter secret?" Whitney asked, trying to lighten the mood.

Matt sighed. "Well, the connection Jason formed with you is strong.

These runes will reinforce that connection, at least enough to pierce the dimensional barrier. And I'm going to hitch a ride, using that connection as my guide.

But it takes a lot of energy. That's where the part about touching your soul comes in..."

He spoke seriously as he stepped closer to her.

Gently placing a hand on her face—a gesture that surprised her—Matt said,

"You don't have to do this if you don't want to. But if you choose not to, I have to warn you about something."

"What?" Whitney asked, not minding the unexpected touch.

"The connection he made with you is strong. Strong enough for him to leave Crystal Lake and hunt you down wherever you go.

If he isn't destroyed for good, he'll keep coming after you, Whitney. And he'll hurt anyone who gets in his way."

Matt's voice was soft, as if trying to ease the weight of his words.

Whitney trembled slightly. She had seen what that monster was capable of, and if Matt was telling the truth, this would be a nightmare without end.

"Matt... I'm scared..."

Despite trying to be strong, Whitney couldn't hold back her tears. She broke down, wrapping her arms around him.

"It's going to be okay. I promise I'll end him today."

Matt spoke with confidence. Then, gently holding her face, he brought his eyes inches from hers.

"When this is over, I'll take you home. And I'll help your mom.

I don't have much experience with healing magic, but I'm sure I can do something to help her, even if it's just a little."

The soul was a mirror of emotions. Negative feelings were like bombs dropped into what was meant to be a calm sea—the human soul.

For both of their safety, it was better to calm that sea.

Hearing his words, Whitney pushed down the fear rising in her chest.

His confidence, his promise—it made her feel safer.

She looked at Matt and nodded. "Do it, Matt."

Matt nodded back and inscribed the rune on her hand.

"Alright, now comes the most important part.

Whitney, I need you to stay as calm as possible. It's going to hurt a little, but everything will be fine."

Before she could respond, he murmured something, and his hand began to glow with a celestial blue light.

Then, without warning, he pressed his hand against her stomach.

As if it were an illusion, his hand passed into her body.

Whitney looked down, stunned by the sight.

She opened her mouth to speak, but then—a strange sensation bloomed inside her.

At first, it was just a mild burning.

But then, it grew. The heat spread rapidly, intensifying to an unbearable degree.

Her breath hitched as she looked at the point where Matt's hand had entered her.

The light radiating from the connection grew stronger and stronger.

The pain became overwhelming. It felt like her entire body was inflating, on the verge of bursting.

She braced herself to scream—

—but she didn't have to.

Matt suddenly pulled his hand away.

"It's done. I got it. I need to be quick—it's too much energy."

Matt, now glowing with pure white light, stepped into the center of the circle and whispered words unknown to the mortal world.

As he finished, Whitney's soul energy—the part he had absorbed—poured from his body, split in two, and flowed into the runes.

They pulsed with brilliant light.

Seeing it was working, Matt whispered the final incantation.

The energies surged from the runes, merged again, and started spinning.

Faster and faster, until they distorted the very space around them.

Ten seconds passed. Then, like a blade slicing through fabric, the energy tore a hole in reality.

A portal opened.

Staring at the gateway to an unknown place, Matt turned to Whitney.

She was on the ground, breathless, still trying to process what was happening, her eyes wide with shock.

"Whitney, if I don't come back in one hour, leave this place and don't return.

Don't look for your friends. They're gone."

Before she could say a word, Matt jumped into the portal.

Seconds later, it vanished.
